Xenia why do you equate a non-earner with a lack of power and being poor, has something of the like damaged you or are your eyes truly so closed.

My mother gave up an admin job to marry my father and care for the children, I can assure you she is neither powerless nor poor, truly truly not. I could elaborate but dont feel the need to focus on financials like some....

She was an excellent role model growing up and still is a tiger for her children, all girls, all educated, one a lawyer with a well known commercial firm actually. We were her focus, perhaps her being home with us served us better than being raised by a nanny? After all the nanny must have made poor career choices to be someone else's skivvy yet she would be a main influence in a child's life no?

Your point about choosing a different path at Christmas is valid, some of your points are so why devalue them with ignorance over education, social class, regionalisation etc?

'better to be a female CEO of ASDA in £4m a year or whatever than a non earning housewife who has no money or power.'

I can tell you which I'd rather be, and it's not the CEO

SteamingNit "If that's over-thinking I don't care. More people should over-think, more often !" Exactly Smile

OnwardBound No need to apologise for hi-jack. It's great to see people speak up for valuable but less well rewarded work. Smile Thanks

And now for something completely different... the John Lewis Christmas ad. Much more classy of course but then again, a different target demographic.

I don't watch much tv at all frankly. I only saw the asda one during its premier because I was waiting for Downton abbey

Oh Wordsmith that ad is just lovely!

although initially I did think the bastard snowman had gone and left her to go sightseeing... and just before Christmas too! Grin

oh the John Lewis one is lovely, but does have shades of Doctor Who's weeping angels about it...

Oh please, save us from women crying over the JL advert. Not another November/December of people pretending to cry over an advert - because it just can't be true that people actually over an advert.

And please, no more of this 'demographic' business. It all sounds very (wannabe) bourgeois.

I don't see how you can compare a food shop advert with a clothes store advert.Bizarre.
Personally I prefer the ASda one because it is a bit more humorous. The JL one was very twee and you could see the ending at 1000 paces.Love the music though!

Should have said 'it can't be true that people actually cry over an advert' - see I was so incredulous I couldn't bring myself to type it!

I am utterly sick of ALL Xmas Adverts. The Debenhams one is pretty awful - the last thing we all want on Xmas day is loads of snow when familes might be travelling long distances to get together!

I'm a bit meh about the John Lewis ad although some of the snowman's expressions are amusing.

My fave ever Christmas ad is the Guinness one, they only play it in Ireland so I really know I'm home for Christmas when I see it. No scenes of drudgery!

Love the Irn bru one.

Haven't seen debenhams one either so just YouTube it (can't find how to get the link off yt), it's fairly dull tbh, yes there is a girl in black knickers but they probably over trade on lingerie at Christmas so needed to include it, and the "train" is peeking in lots of windows so it's not exactly out of context peeping Tom territory Hmm

Well I must admit if it weren't for me running around like a blue arsed fly all Christmas then it wouldn't bloody happen!! I can relate to what they're trying to achieve there perhaps on a different level.
