and/or use textspeak/hun/lil' man/b**tch etc and no paragraphs and no discernible grammar?

OR

am I a terrible old curmudgeon and change is inevitable and in the end the huns will take over the asylum?

OP posts:
Latara · 05/11/2012 09:36

I only add an 'x' when i really sympathise with an OP or poster.

I use xx's in RL at the end of texts... i only say 'honey' when i'm being sarky but i am guilty of saying 'babe' to my sister or friends at times.

I love emoticons. :)

Right now i'm having a Brew

I try to text grammatically on here & spell properly like...

but in RL it depends who i text / email / FB - eg. to old best mates from school days i'd say ''havIN a cuppa''; to a posher good friend i'd say ''havING''.. you get to know who likes which way of texting.

Hugs etc on MN are best when they are UN-MNetty & therefore really meant.

If it becomes usual to say 'Hugs' then that loses it's value IYSWIM.

Can we have a [glittery cunt] sign off please?

QuinionsRainbow · 05/11/2012 10:48

And why "vair" for "very". Same number of letters, as easy to type?

EdsRedeemingQualities · 05/11/2012 10:57

Lots of things in your OP Minters that you KNOW I'd never do and most of us wouldn't (txtspk etc) (or saying hun)

but I do sometimes use an x if I feel sorry for someone or have been an arse and want to suck up.

There you go.

EdsRedeemingQualities · 05/11/2012 10:59

I also don't object to the use of 'LOL@ but it has to be appropriate and true and judicious.

I use it when I actually laugh.

People who overuse it really are annoying.

AndiMac · 05/11/2012 12:03

David Mitchell on LOL. I LOL'd.

I know a number of people who think that LOL stands for Lots Of Love. This is almost a direct copy of a message a friend sent out to all of us.

"It's been a rough time, but thank you all for your support during X's illness. lol".

garlicbaguette · 05/11/2012 12:09

LOL did stand for Lots Of Love, before the interwebs. I remember writing it on postcards :)

I was a moderator on one of the very early forums, and had to ask my supervisor what all the LOLs meant as they didn't look very loving!

garlicbaguette · 05/11/2012 12:12

Mignonette: glittery cunt

OneMoreChap · 05/11/2012 12:23

I have little irritation with people using TLAs or even ETLAs; I can cope with the AFAICS, IMHO, IANAL, and even the dreaded ROTLFMAO.

I do dislike the bockles, ickles, wee/lil man schtick.
TBH I also detest some of the swearing on here which detracts IMV from the cut and thrust of debate. Still, some of you would call me a cunt for that.

I reserve special ire 4 thos of u who would of bin better tort if yud evrl snd at skool. Or "speak" text.

SomethingOnce · 05/11/2012 12:33

It's not that dissimilar from making an issue out of people's accents so yes, YABU.

(I'm not a fan of some of the things described here and wouldn't do them myself, but I think this thread reveals a snobbery that makes me feel a bit sad.)

EdsRedeemingQualities · 05/11/2012 12:54

I don't agree about the accent thing...though I can see what you mean, culturally maybe some of these are acceptable in certain groups.

It's just you can't choose your accent and you can choose how disingenuous you want to be...the word 'hun' is often used in a context that is less than affectionate.

I've only ever come across it personally when buying or selling on here in the old days. 'For sale: pushchair, nearly new, excellent condition, would like £80 please'
'Wud u take 30 hun xxx'

that sort of thing

I used a infertility site for a while but had to ban myself because of their annoying habit of adding 'ies' to everything.

so everything ivf related was:

eggies
embies
spermies
frosties

It's a pleasure, mignonette! Lovely idea lolz. We could put recall's glitter cunt in there, too, for safe keeping ...

mignonette · 05/11/2012 18:55

If recalls GGlitter cunt is put in there for safe keeping then make sure it goes into one of those cunts that have teeth.....You know that ugly saying? think of it as a small yet efficiently deadly waste disposal system....

The MSE forums are truly awful - I don't know of any other forums where new posters have a sign next to their name telling people to be nice!

And I think the Welsh for yellow is melyn.
