and/or use textspeak/hun/lil' man/b**tch etc and no paragraphs and no discernible grammar?

OR

am I a terrible old curmudgeon and change is inevitable and in the end the huns will take over the asylum?

OP posts:
Levantine · 04/11/2012 20:18

I've put an x where someone has been having a hard time too. But in general I agree, absolutely.

Redbindy · 04/11/2012 20:19

OP you are so right hun.

The MN Accessibility Policy specifically asks that text speak not be used the site:

www.mumsnet.com/info/accessibility

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 04/11/2012 20:32

I am sometimes moved to end with a x if I feels someone might need that.

apostropheuse · 04/11/2012 20:32

I've seen some sickeningly vomit-inducing glittery all singing, all dancing, "signatures" on other forums.

The one that made me peuk the most was (and I confess to paraphrasing ever so slightly here, but you get the gist of it):

"Breast-feeding, baby-wearing, co-sleeping, baby-led weaning, cloth-nappy using, home schooling mummy of...."

Note the lack of the use of the word modest

Fakebook · 04/11/2012 20:33

Lolz babe. I feel u Hun. Ur abslutely rite.

Hugz n kisses babe xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

(I like how my Iphone capitalises the H in Hun. LOLZ)

Bogeyface · 04/11/2012 20:33

I have been blocked by someone on a FB group because she used the words "bubs" and "bubba" to describe her unborn child Blush

All I said was "'Bubs'?!, dont go all netmums on us!"

I was told later that NM is her bible :o

germyrabbit · 04/11/2012 20:34

i've been here way too long and not really noticed too much of that, though imo sometimes a 'x' is a nice gesture

and change is inevitable in any forum, you just have to keep up and embrace it op

AndiMac · 04/11/2012 20:34

I hate an X after a message. Are you seriously saying you would kiss the person you send your message to? You don't know where my mouth has been, nor my cheek, I wouldn't kiss me. Or is it you have forgotten how to sign your name and are signing with an X to make up for this specific illiteracy?

Drives me nuts.

Bogeyface · 04/11/2012 20:38

I have xx'd tonight actually, but thats on Relationships to someone having a really hard time. To me it is shorthand for the hug that I would give that person if I could.

I think that "un-mumsnetty hugs" should be ok over there, because knowing that people care in a genuine way can be very helpful. I found the odd "take care xx" to be really comforting during my worst time on that forum.

booksinbed · 04/11/2012 20:38

What is wrong with hun anyway- what does it indicate socially I mean.Is It seen as lazy or text speak or something .I dont use it - but it seems a lot of younger women I know do .. I thoough they were just being friendly!!!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 04/11/2012 20:38

Andi

Aw you old curmudgeon. If I feel emotional about something and want to convey that a metaphorical kiss might be the best way. I don't do it to just anyone, and will take note not to give you one should the occasion arise.

JudeFawley · 04/11/2012 20:40

I judge posters that put a kiss after their posts.

They're usually posts like 'what do you ladies think of the name Kayden-Lee for my lil man? X'

Most of my female friends put a kiss after every single text.

What is that all about?

Pagwatch · 04/11/2012 20:43

I don't embrace change unless it is good. Fuck off random irritating affectations.

Astr0naut · 04/11/2012 20:44

I hate 'hun'. I can cope with 'mate' or even 'love', but 'hun' already sounds fake. It's not even abbreviated from a proper soding word.

It's not 'bockle' round here - it's 'bocky'.

Just wondering if 'bubba' (also on the hit list) is a mutation of 'baba', which is (I think) a kind of welsh word? I think 'baban' was welsh for baby. Of course, I could just be making shit up. Which is what my mother does. SHe told me last week that there is no welsh word for 'yellow'.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 04/11/2012 20:44

Jude

so you'd judge me if I put one in the middle of a Relationships thread where OP has spilled her guts about depression, EA, adultery?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 04/11/2012 20:47

AIBU to wonder what MN posters would put in their tickers

Richer and more talented than you for 19 years and 5 months.
Swearier than you by 75.6%.
Not been deleted for 2 days 3 hours 17 minutes.
Have been in parking war for 6 months 15 days with left hand neighbour and 3 months 8 days with right hand neighbour.
Have been an atrocious cunt for 19 days 10 hours.
Have not been unreasonable EVER. No matter what you fuckers all think.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 04/11/2012 20:48

Sanctimonious and always will be

AndiMac · 04/11/2012 20:48

Jamie, I am a young curmudgeon and please don't burst my bubble to bring me to the reality that I am not. But I do thank you, I appreciate you not throwing Xs willy-nilly at me. Smile

Perhaps Mumsnet needs a "hug" emoticon for people to use in situations where they feel other posters could use the support? I would back that over a casual X.

TheDailyWail · 04/11/2012 20:49

Clippity - if I am sending a message which is loving or comforting, then yes, I would add a kiss at the end but not every single FB post.

I admit I have kissing issues in RL. Grin

MikeLitoris · 04/11/2012 20:50

Jew prefer me 2 rite lyke this insted? I carnt soz! Lmao.

My sil writes like that ^

I want to punch her.

I'm always spelling things wrong i dont judge for that, but text speak is a no no.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 04/11/2012 20:50

Ah yes, a bit of ageism crept in there from me Andi

Hug emoticon could open the door to other gestural emoticons
