To be hopping mad regarding pie?

We decided to have a beef pie for lunch. I put all of the filling ingredients together to cook slowly in our biggest pot. I asked DH to keep an eye on pop...and stir it now and then.

Then I went for a bath.

I could hear DH clanging around and thought he must be stirring etc.

I come down about 40 mins later to find DH has put the pie ingredients in a tiny pan on a higher heat....and begun to cook fucking lentils in the big pot.

AIBU to think you don't mess with someones pie ingredients and CHANGE THE POT AND THE HEAT???

DH thinks I'm crazy.

He often interferes in my cooking because he thinks he's better than me ...he''s not...we are about equally skilled in the kitchen.

And WHY cook a big pot of frigging lentils when there's a bastard big pie on the way with loads of veggies???

Let us out!

I want more pie talk! .

ginhag · 04/11/2012 14:43

Drowning by lentils. A truly worthy death.

amillionyears · 04/11/2012 14:44

op, do you want us to discuss this all a bit more seriously?
Or have you both kissed and made up and eaten the pie with lentils?

BonVoyageCharlieBrown · 04/11/2012 14:53

Sorry this isn't helpful but whenever people talk of lentils I think of this

Grin
MrsCantSayAnything · 04/11/2012 16:17

The pie was bloody gorgeous. DH was cooking the lentils for tomorrow apparently.

He is a pie-wanker health freak.

He ate about half of the pie when I wasn't looking. we are just about on speaking terms as he feels I overreacted about his interference.

He DID set the pie back.

With his lentilly bollocks.

Trills · 04/11/2012 16:21

You still haven't told us if it is real pie.

WandaDoff · 04/11/2012 16:21

I'm torn between salivating at the thought of homemade steak pie, and boaking at the thought of lentilly bollocks.

MrsCantSayAnything · 04/11/2012 16:25

Trills of course it was a real pie! What else would it be? It was beautifully made.

My pies always are.

LadyBeagle · 04/11/2012 16:31

So will you be eating his disgusting lentils tomorrow OP?
As for pies, I quite like a topcrust puff pastry one,
Actually, can you all stop talking about pies, I want one and don't have any ingredients.
So you're all upsetting me.Sad
Please desist or I will report.

Trills · 04/11/2012 16:33

It could have been stew with a lid on. Which is not a proper pie. Pie has pastry on the bottom.

HoneyDragon · 04/11/2012 16:36

Dh is in the kitchen making Tacos. I am out the way unless summoned. As is law.

Lentilly bollocks! Grin

I would be livid too, MrsCSA - he's an interfering get and he wouldn't have been getting any of my pie

MrsCantSayAnything · 04/11/2012 16:43

Trills Ha! I ONLY make real pie.

I love pie more than almost anything.

put his fucking lentils out for the birds!

and def LTB...it's the only option.

MrsCantSayAnything · 04/11/2012 16:49

I mean...why not wait till later to cook the horrid lentils? It was pointless. Nobody would have touched them with a barge pole when given the choice.

not in this house anyway!

The second my husband touches anything involved in a meal I am making, he has officially taken over and I tell him that I will look forward to seeing it on the table and I take no further interest in it (no matter how much he apologises Grin ).

I find that he no longer tries to add salt or turn the heat down. Grin

may I suggest a new rule - touch anything and I am going to sit down and you can cook the meal and serve it.

And if he doesn't, then it can stay on the hob all night for all you care.

He'll learn.

Or you'll never have to cook a meal again.

Either way - you win Grin

MrsCantSayAnything · 04/11/2012 17:01

No....I don't win! I won't get pie then!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 04/11/2012 17:02

You've just reminded me of an ex housemate. I'd be prepping stuff for dinner, when she'd walk in and start using the hob, so I'd move my things to the side out the way, and wait until she'd finished to go back and cook mine, only to find that she'd tipped all my chopped veg off my chopping board onto the side, and used my last clean plate. Used to drive me potty! Angry The joys of sharing a house. Hmm

MrsMangoBiscuit · 04/11/2012 17:02

Sorry, meant to say YANBU!

HecatePhosphorus · 04/11/2012 17:03

Oh. I didn't realise the pie was essential Grin never mind.

Just stab him with a fork every time he comes in the kitchen.

He'll learn.

HoolioHallio · 04/11/2012 17:49

But what will he serve the lentils WITH ? Just a plateful of reheated lentils ?

OMG I want beef pie NOW!

PickledFanjoCat · 04/11/2012 17:58

Give us the recipe mrs can't and we will all make it!

SpectralMissSpooky · 04/11/2012 20:09

I slow cook pie filling the day before construction, leaving it to infuse in the fridge overnight. Yum!

Must go check freezer for pie friendly things!
