To be hopping mad regarding pie?

We decided to have a beef pie for lunch. I put all of the filling ingredients together to cook slowly in our biggest pot. I asked DH to keep an eye on pop...and stir it now and then.

Then I went for a bath.

I could hear DH clanging around and thought he must be stirring etc.

I come down about 40 mins later to find DH has put the pie ingredients in a tiny pan on a higher heat....and begun to cook fucking lentils in the big pot.

AIBU to think you don't mess with someones pie ingredients and CHANGE THE POT AND THE HEAT???

DH thinks I'm crazy.

He often interferes in my cooking because he thinks he's better than me ...he''s not...we are about equally skilled in the kitchen.

And WHY cook a big pot of frigging lentils when there's a bastard big pie on the way with loads of veggies???

What were the lentils for? They're an ingredient, not a dish, so...?

I have seen this 'mutual cooking interference' before, where both people think they know best (and usually one believes that their method is THE method and cannot help but give 'helpful advice'). The only answer is to have a 'lead chef' for each meal. The other can help, but not change things, ask why and listen but not 'advise'.

ROARING @ "in my opinion it has set the pie back" Grin

Don't mess with my shortcrust, bitch.

LadyBeagle · 04/11/2012 13:08

Yes, what were the lentils for?
I think we should be told.
Though lentils will never darken my door, like, ever.

Sparkletastic · 04/11/2012 13:10

Who the fuck wants lentils when there's pie on offer?

JodieHarsh · 04/11/2012 13:10

Did you know if you do Slimming World people FORCE YOU TO EAT lentil pie? Shock Shock

Not even joking. I never enquired further as to what it was.

FrankelDeBeauvoir · 04/11/2012 13:10

Pie-wanker Rie??! Grin I've now got that scene from Ametican Pie in my head

MrsHoarder · 04/11/2012 13:10

Why was the beef on the hob? Surely once it was browned you pop it into the pie to cook there. That's rather the point of pie isn't it? Confused

But YANBU OP. We usually leave the other to keep an eye on dinner whilst the other goes upstairs for whatever reason.

brighthair · 04/11/2012 13:11

I'm with sparkle. Lentils?! When there is pie? Grin
LTB

AgentZigzag · 04/11/2012 13:12

I can't believe anyone else would want to take over if the other persons offered to cook.

I don't mind putting plates and things out to help DH if he's cooking, but why would I take the chance of getting roped in on the actual cooking bit if he's got everything under control??

CookingFunt · 04/11/2012 13:13

LMFAO @ pie-wanker

Olbasoil · 04/11/2012 13:13

My Dh used to do this when we first married.
I put the meat in the oven on a certain temp, he would go in and turn it up/down
I would put the veg on the hob, he would turn it up/down
He doesn't do that now [evil] Grin

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 04/11/2012 13:13

Sorry, Frank. I only thought of That Scene after I posted. I was thinking more of "Bus-wankers"

SoupDragon · 04/11/2012 13:14

Who cooks lentils (about 40 pounds of them} when there is a pie on the hob??

Well, I assume that no one cooks a pie on the hob that it was actually just pie fllling and thus indistinguishable from, say, some kind of casserole which requires lentils.

JodieHarsh · 04/11/2012 13:14

Also "briefcase wanker"

Iggly · 04/11/2012 13:15

YANBU.

You have him instructions and he meddled.

If you ask someone to stir something, you don't expect them to meddle.

Make his pie with lentils.

squeakytoy · 04/11/2012 13:16

I suspect husband will be eating humble pie at some point today, with lentils...

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 04/11/2012 13:16

I'm struggling with "briefcase wanker", Jodie. Remind me.

Grumpla · 04/11/2012 13:17

Leave the pie-wanker Grin

WankbadgersBreakfast · 04/11/2012 13:17

He's obv. a crazy lentil weaver. LTB!
But not until you've waltzed back in there, tipped his poxy lentils into another pot, your delicious pie filling where it belongs and then booted him in the nuts a bit.

HoneyDragon · 04/11/2012 13:18

So he decanted the pie filling from a suitable pan into a less suitable pan and then washed the pan to cook a epic amount of lentils that have no purpose?

Your dh is weird.

LadyBeagle · 04/11/2012 13:18

I'm now dreaming of steak pie with gravy and pastry and mash.
The perfect winter comfort food.
I agree with others, no pie for him, let him feast on lentils Envy, that's a vom emoticon BTW.

JodieHarsh · 04/11/2012 13:19

When the posh one turns up at school for the very first time, avec briefcase

FrankelDeBeauvoir · 04/11/2012 13:19

Just for Jodie

Fwiend Grin

Trills · 04/11/2012 13:20

The important question is whether your pie is going to be a real pie, or just a stew with a lid on.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 04/11/2012 13:20

Oh yes Grin. Brilliant!

Poor old Will.
