My dd is allergic to certain washing powders. This is the washing powder that my dmil uses. The last time my dd stayed overnight, she ended up with nasty hives on her face and hands.
Remembering this, I mentioned to mil that I would take over a sheet for dd's bed. (She doesnt need other bedding as she has her grobag)
Fil has just phoned and said that mil is deeply offended and would now prefer not to have her overnight. I honestly can't see why she is offended. I was trying to save her a hassle but also keep dd from having a reaction.
We will now have to cancel going to a friend's wedding as we can't get another sitter.

I just tried to PM you, but the system is playing up again.

I'm in the South East - GU postcode, if it's anywhere near you, I'm happy to babysit while you go to the wedding. I'm CRB checked & know some MNers IRL & not a hairy handed trucker :)

Also, IRL, I don't swear like a navy well, not around children anyway

McKayz · 03/11/2012 21:36

LaCiccolina, your post is bloody stupid. Having boys does not make you act like a spoilt brat like Dramas MIL.

MsVestibule · 03/11/2012 22:18

La Ciccolina I'm the mother of a 4 year old son; no major signs of insanity yet, but I'll give you a shout in 20 years and let you know then.

MsVestibule · 03/11/2012 22:20

not a hairy handed trucker

You disappoint me, ChippingIn.

ladymariner · 03/11/2012 22:29

Another one here thinking la ciccolina has just posted one of the most stupid comments ever......I'm with lets all the way here

MinnieBar · 03/11/2012 22:31

I just have to say - how utterly lovely of you to offer Chipping
Smile

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 03/11/2012 22:38

MsV - sorry to disappoint you :( I'll stop getting my hands waxed Grin

Minnie - other peoples children are lovely - especially little ones that say 'Love you mummy' :) and I hate to see people being held over a barrel - I'd do most anything to help them prove they aren't!

Dramajustfollowsme · 04/11/2012 08:54

Thank you chipping. I'm up in Scotland so a wee bit far from you but that was a lovely offer.
Dh came home with lots of pictures, cake and some champagne for me so not all bad. He knows I like a good look at wedding dresses, flowers and the cake so had been snapping merrily away! Have to say the quality of the pics reduces as the alcohol intake increases!
We had a room booked but he decided to get a lift home because he didn't want to stay without me. Aw!

Drama, I thought I had a difficult mil (left my girls home alone once!) but yours sounds crazier!

I'm in Scotland (Glasgow) and if you need babysitters I'm happy to help if you're local-ish. I can't do lifting but I read good stories (I teach mums to read stories), have crb and I'm nice too

diddl · 04/11/2012 09:39

What a ridiculous woman.

I´d change my washing powder so that there would be no chance of my GD getting a reaction from my clothes due to the amount of cuddles she´d be getting!

Numberlock · 04/11/2012 11:05

Where do I fit in then laC?
I av four boys but did have a girl.

Sorry MrsDeV, as soon as you give birth to a child with a penis you turn into a crazy psycho-bitch. Didn't you know?

slartybartfast · 04/11/2012 11:08

does she use persil biological powder and you are using non biological fairy or something?

FlobbadobbaBOO · 04/11/2012 11:10

My MIL has her moments but nothing like this! When she found out that both me & DD1 are allergic to certain washing powders as well as DH she changed what she bought, even though none of us ever stay at theirs! It's really restricted her in the powder she buys as between us we react to 4 different types but she won't risk it.
I would be quite worried about her babysitting again tbh.

Euphemiaaaarrrrgggghhhh · 04/11/2012 11:29

Drama I'm in Tayside if you need a sitter any time. Smile

digerd · 04/11/2012 11:53

When FIL phoned was his tone of voice angry, wavering/wobbly, embarrassed, or just irritated, or what? He has to live with MIL and after a long marriage, many men just want a quiet life, and do what the wifey wants to keep the peace at home. His son should have a word with him and explain that you are upset - but then many men can't cope with these things between the 2 women in their lives, I know all too well.

Iheartpasties · 04/11/2012 11:54

your mil is a mad old bag, at least you know this now. I hope she never needs a favour of you!

Euphemiaaaarrrrgggghhhh · 04/11/2012 11:58

I'm not one to bear grudges I leave that to DH, who never forgets a slight but you can be sure my DD would not be staying over with MIL if her petty behaviour meant DH had to go to a wedding in his own.

SecretCervix · 04/11/2012 12:13

This makes me so grateful for DP's Mum! If I mentioned an allergy of this sort, she'd be fine with the sending a sheet over I'm sure, that or she'd say okay which one isn't she allergic to, and buy a small box/bottle of it! This is probably because she is NORMAL!

OP your MIL sounds like she has some serious issues of some description!

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 04/11/2012 19:22

Oh I didn't realise the wedding was last night or I wouldn't have offered at such a daft time when it was clear you'd have needed someone before then!

He's a sweetie your DH :) Hard to see how the apple can fall so far from the tree sometimes isn't it.

There's no way I'd leave DD there now, I just don't think she's balanced enough to be minding small children - and I'd tell her that if it was pushed.

PickledFanjoCat · 04/11/2012 19:27

She is bonkers and so is la ciccolina.

You sound like your handling this very well!

PickledFanjoCat · 04/11/2012 19:29

Btw la c - having sons dosent turn s person into a massive dick.

DoesItComeInBlack · 04/11/2012 20:00

My eldest is allergic to lots of washing powders and conditioners, they give him terrible eczema even now and he's 21. My mum immediately switched to Fairy, which I was using and still uses it today. She couldn't bear the thought of being responsible for him being so poorly when it's entirely preventable. Your MIL sounds more than a little self obsessed, most GP's can be bloody annoying at times but usually they do everything to put there GC first.

BTW La ciccolina, I still haven't felt the urge to turn into a petulant arse and as I said he's 21, so perhaps it takes longer than you thought, or I'm protected by virtue of having a 2 yo DD as well. Confused
