So we mined into our new (raf) house this week. They came and installed the box fine but we still have NO PHONE AND NO INTERNET.

Ds(13) is starting to twitch, he can't Skype the friends he has left behind, or play online with them.

I am expecting the police any time, as the au pairs friends must have declared her missing after this long an absence from Facebook.

They think the problem is at the exchange, and can't tell when it will be fixed.

Worst of all, the mobile signal here is shit, so I can't always get on MN Shock Angry

YY squeaky - the point is - once you're paying for the TV - they have no incentive to get a move on over the phone/broadband. None at all. You can't cancel the TV after the cooling off.

How long is the cooling off do you know?

I think it's 14 days Norma.

Of course there is an incentive for them, money.

I am sure you will get it sorted Norma, as squeaky says its BT they are waiting on.

It's 14 days I think if you signed at home, online or at one of those stands in a shopping centre, but you'd have to google. They vary.

I was told 2-3 weeks wait for internet, try 6. Not very happy. I feel your pain.

Hmm not sure. I can look it up for you. When did you sign up and how?

Report
Brycie · 04/11/2012 17:02

I've just seen something on a forum that says a week/eight days from when it was installed.

"Money back guarantee: If you cancel Sky+HD within one calendar month of activation, we will refund the cost of your box (but not any subscription or set-up charges you have paid)."

This is from the terms and conditions apparently. This sounds like a Sky offer, whereas the legal cooling off period might be different.

We are on the phone to them now. Woman started stammering when he said he wanted to talk about excercising our opt out.

Be strong: they'll cave if you are within your TV cooling off.

Report
Brycie · 04/11/2012 19:17

Also if they say they'll call you back, that's great: saves you money, because they know you can exercise your cooling off in writing. Remember you must make sure that they know that you know you can do that. And make sure they know that you know that ONLY THE PERSON ON THE ACCOUNT can do it so if it's you and not your husband, make sure that person does it. This is not always the same person paying the direct debit.

Report
Brycie · 04/11/2012 19:19

And also don't forget it's the TV opt out you can exercise too - they don't really care about the broadband. Don't lose your temper: it gives them an excuse to put the phone down.

Norma DO come back and let me know what happened. Hope you got what you wanted.

It is down to BT Openreach, who have the monopoly (Virgin aside - am not in Virgin area) on installing all phone lines as they have no real competitors. No matter who you're with, it always ends with them. No priority for any customer.

We just moved. Last time a few years back I was told four working days for BT line installation. It's six weeks now. Apparently it's down to the wet summer and lots of faults as a result, causing a backlog with new line installations. They should give you a date all the same.

Regardless, we're fucked as we both need to work from home. And we get to pay £130 for them to flip a switch in the exchange some time in December.

If you have a phone that supports tethering and is unlocked you can buy a one month unlimited data rolling 3 sim for £25/month - just make sure you give a month notice etc.

I'm using similar right now - fine for low bandwidth stuff like this but impossible for work.

In this day and age I find it incredible to believe that it's considered acceptable to be without Internet access for six weeks.

I have a reasonable mobile signal this morning.

Because of the donning off of dh, it was only raised as a fault on Friday, and the SLA is 72 hours. Sorry - 72 hours on working days. Saturday sometimes counts as a working day, and sometimes doesn't Hmm Confused

So that is tomorrow. I asked if they could guarentee tomorrow. Of course they said no. Dh only spoke to the talk people yesterday, I am going to keep up the pressure today by speaking to the tv people.

Good luck norma. Speak to the tv people and don't be fobbed.

That is what they're trained to do - fob off until it's too late.

I signed up to sky in January and the set up my tv within days however my phone and broadband took 9 MONTHS. Yes seriously with no exaggeration 9 months and 18 bt visits. As by the point I realized it was going to be a nightmare I was already tied in to the tv and I could do most of my internet needs over my phone and I was told my contract had started I left it. When the phone was fitted by way of apology I was given 6 months half price line rental and told that actually my contract had just started with them so I am tied in for a year not the 3 months I was guaranteed in the beginning.

This is why with sky one should insist the TV installatoin comes on the same day as the phone/broadband line or afterwards. They'll get a shift on then.

Report
NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/11/2012 12:33

Man from Sky confirmed that we have 31 days to cancel. We will cancel well before that if the phone and internet are not sorted.
