So we mined into our new (raf) house this week. They came and installed the box fine but we still have NO PHONE AND NO INTERNET.

Ds(13) is starting to twitch, he can't Skype the friends he has left behind, or play online with them.

I am expecting the police any time, as the au pairs friends must have declared her missing after this long an absence from Facebook.

They think the problem is at the exchange, and can't tell when it will be fixed.

Worst of all, the mobile signal here is shit, so I can't always get on MN Shock Angry

By the way they don't care if you cancel the broadband - they care if you cancel the tv and sport package. Are you in the tv cool off period.

Just to let you know that's why they are around pronto with the TV box. They don't care about anything else. I would threaten to cancel soon. Cancel the TV package. Otherwise they'll ignore you for a long time and you'll have no leverage.

Bt are just as bad. Changed their boxes in August. Have to reboot three times a day now. The list for repair/exchange is apparently so long that they can't give you a date for fixing. I email every single time it goes down, which, as I said is often three times a day. Let's see if that does anything. Otherwise it's off to sky, which will mean losing the television every time it rains or is windy. No cable here.

Unless you're hooked on the sport, why don't you just get terrestrial TV, plusnet broadband and then love film, or netflicks. They're bargainous.

Sky seem to have got better with that dawn, it's hammering down at the moment and isn't affecting the signal, I don't actually remember the last time that happened Smile

Norma the problem with us was the BT box in the house and in the outside box down the road, sky did all they could to get them round ASAP to sort it, I know it's not much consolation now but sky should compensate you for it, they did for us.

Sky are shit! Took five weeks to install broadband, totally stunned that in this day and age they even think this is acceptable. Reckon strawberry should give us all the CEO email so we can bombard his email account.

I think everyone should know this about Sky.

  1. Sign up to a package. It is NOT a package, it's three separate contracts. You can't cancel as a package - if the TV cooling off period has gone by and they renege on the broadband installation, you canNOT cancel the package.

  1. Wait about five seconds for TV installation. They do it quick smart. They want you on subscription and glued there for a year.

  1. Arrange phone and broadband installation date for AFTER the TV cooling off period. Maybe even promise an engineer will be round to do it. (They won't).

  1. Be really slack about phone and broadband - by now the customer can do nothing about it.

When you order a new phone line with Sky they give you the date of installation. You know there and then that it will be approx 5-6 weeks. It isnt Skys fault, there is nothing they can do about it.

Report
Brycie · 04/11/2012 12:58

They can do something about it - they could arrange it earlier. If you said : please don't instal my TV until you can instal my phone and broadband on the same day - then I bet you would get your phone installed earlier.

Report
squeakytoy · 04/11/2012 12:59

no, they cant. It is down to BT and BT will not give dates any earlier than that. i work for them, there is nothing that can be done to get the telephone line put in any earlier than the date BT dictate.

Brycie · 04/11/2012 13:00

Then I would advise anyone choosing a Sky package to request their TV installation on the same day as the phone/broadband. That means if the phone /broadband installation is unsatisfactory then the whole package can be cancelled.

When I got my date for Sky phone installation there was no consultation with BT. It was previously a Virgin phone. What happened there?

Report
squeakytoy · 04/11/2012 13:14

sky automatically consult BT when the order is placed, they have access to the installation bookings and it also depends on what line is already in place (or not in place as in the case of new build properties). If you already have a line, then it is very different as it is just a case of switching the billing to a different company. All phone lines in the UK are provided by BT though.

It is a nuisance, and it gives me a lot of headaches as it means we need to do two installation visits to our customers to set up the systems.

There was no installation visit to our house and no consultation before a date was given. Is this because it was previously a Virgin line?

Hello all :)

I am back in my old house, cleaning prior to 'march out', so have mobile signal.

I will check the cooling off period for the telly, they only installed it on Tuesday or Wednesday. Thanks for that tip.

They said the phone/broadband would be live on Thursday at the same time they gave us the install dates for the tv.

It really is a pita, as it means I can't work from home tomorrow (kids first day at New schools).

No virgin where we are, and I gather freeview doesn't work well.

Will look at what bt have to offer. Not desperate enough to try talk talk.... Yet

It is because you already had a line in, yes. The line would still have been a BT line, even though your service provider was Virgin.

We switched from BT to Sky and it was just a case of one day BT billed us, and the next we were billed from Sky, and it was very straightforwards with no visit or disruption.

There was no installation visit for the phone. I presume they just needed to turn the line on. The house will have been empty for some time before we moved in.

OP, your other option is also FreeSat. If SKY works in your area, then Freesat will too.

If the problem is at the exchange, then it will be down to BT giving Sky the date when they can sort it out. Sky dont touch the phone lines or exchange at all.

Its my job Norma. :) I spend all day advising people on tv options..

Report
Brycie · 04/11/2012 13:26

They've got no reason to get it sorted once you're paying for your TV, no reason to get onto BT.

Report
squeakytoy · 04/11/2012 13:27

Another thing is, you start paying for your tv when you pair the card with the box, but you dont pay for the broadband or phone until the date that is up and running. They do automatically adjust the bill to take this into account.
