...1 month...

NYC across USA to SF

Then up to Canada

Vancouver to TOronto

Back (via Niagara Falls) to NYC...

Teh children are 3 and 4 (will be 3 and 5 when we travel). The kids will adore it. We have done similar stuff in the past.

Tell me this is OK... I want us to do it.

It's fine - what are your concerns?

Go for it and enjoy

missymoomoomee · 02/11/2012 20:08

My DH will babysit and you can take me instead :)

YANBU it sounds amazing.

Bigwheel · 02/11/2012 20:08

Why wouldn't?t it be ok? Sounds excellent if you can afford it.

pointtopoint · 02/11/2012 20:08

July 2013.

My DH thinks it's too long.

OP posts:
KnickersOnOnesHead · 02/11/2012 20:08

Can't see why not. So long as you can afford it and won't be whinging for the next few years that you are mega skint because of it Grin

Sparklingbrook · 02/11/2012 20:08

Ooh. Just thought of boring stuff. Will the 5 year old missing school be a problem? Sorry. Sad

But still do it. Grin

Primafacie · 02/11/2012 20:08

YABU to stop in Toronto. At least go to Montreal, too.

beachyhead · 02/11/2012 20:09

I've done it with no children, one month from NYC to SF....and down to LA. I was SO SICK of the car by the time we finished, we probably did about 200 miles a day and it was tedious (the driving, not the sights!)

I would never never do that with children....Sorry

Sparklingbrook · 02/11/2012 20:09

Oh so possibly no school missing then? If you don't do it then you never will.

pointtopoint · 02/11/2012 20:10

We're doing it by train.

My DS LOVES trains.

5YO not in school, so problems there. DD is in school, but will finish before we go.

What's so go about Montreal? I quite fancy the CN tower!!

twooter · 02/11/2012 20:11

Agree with above poster if doing it by car.

GAH NO problems there!

OP posts:
EverybodysSpookyEyed · 02/11/2012 20:18

I think the novelty of the train will wear off very quickly. would you just be taking night trains?

SoleSource · 02/11/2012 20:21

Might be OK as thry'll be excited, really bored then used to the travelling hopefilly.

Go for it

pointtopoint · 02/11/2012 20:22

My DS has HFA. He is train obsessed.

The train fascination will not wear off....

(But yes, mostly, we will stick to sleepers)

OP posts:
MumsGoToReykjavik · 02/11/2012 20:23

YABVU - take me instead. Cheers Grin

EverybodysSpookyEyed · 02/11/2012 20:24

if you are sticking to sleepers then go for it!

GreenShadow · 02/11/2012 20:26

I personally wouldn't do it with children, and ours were pretty good travellers.

However, you know your children and if you are happy that they will be OK with it then, fine, do it.

pointtopoint · 02/11/2012 20:29

Ahh.. I already know I'm doing it... I just want to hear some stories to pacify my DH!! Grin

THe kids will love it.

We're only doing this trip because I refused to take DS to Vladivostock on the trans siberian express!! hahaha!

OP posts:
discrete · 02/11/2012 20:31

That would be way too long and too many miles for me with 2 los.

But that may be because mine always get ill when we travel.

lljkk · 02/11/2012 20:34

Mine would whinge the whole way & exhaust me.
But good luck in your adventure.

YourHandInMyHand · 02/11/2012 20:39

I have a train obsessed DS with autism. People comment on how happy and well behaved he is on trains, even last week when delays added 3 hours on to our journey, thus doubling it time wise. So I understand you having no qualms about taking him.

What about your youngest though who will be 3?

My friend has 2 "are we there yet" kids who want to chat constantly. My decision would be very different if I was travelling with this kind of young traveller!
