If I'm being particularly generous I can see that maybe for a short period it would be more challenging than you'd expect it to be on that salary.

That still leaves £1500 for living expenses although it's possible I missed something out, although with four children I imagine that could go pretty quickly.

Still a ridiculous point she's making, they should manage their finances a bit better/move to a cheaper area/rent somewhere with good state schools to save on school fees.

As was commented on the site and as part of the greedy bitch thread yesterday, she/they knew what their finances were after child 2. They had another child. They knew what their finances were after child 3. They had another child. THEN they say they can't afford their lifestyle without child benefit. If they couldn't make things manage without child benefit, they certainly shouldn't have had child 4 and possibly not child 3.

Again, it's back to responsibility. Just because you WANT doesn't mean you should HAVE.

the point of the welfare state is to look after people who would otherwise fall through the cracks. Admittedly the current system is open to abuse and doesn;t always catch the people who need it - but it's not a free for all. If people have enough money left over to buy electrical gadgets - an incresing "necessity" in our society then so be it. State education should provide a good education to everyone - it has some failings but if you choose to go outside then why should you get support? Stupid mare.
