I believe that state handouts should be for people who genuinely need them. There is just not enough money to go around without giving them to people who are well-off. If Child Benefit was means tested, people on low incomes could be given more. That might be enough to get them off the dole and into work.

I get you, and I don't know how you and others get through such stress. I'll be completely honest with you and say that 42k and plus is not a figure I have ever come into contact with so yes I am nieve. I can't imagine what it must be like when all the "shit happens". It is awful that people have called you names but its the world we live in. I get it all the time.
We are very low income but have mortgage paid off through saving every penny of tax credit for lump sum.
Alot of people would say that was bad but we have lived a very simple life with very few material things and needs instead of wants. It has worked for us with mostly good management and a bit of good luck.

I feel likewise about those who need it, we are ok now and if they stopped our benefits it would really affect us but we would get by as we had nothing in terms of tax credits when ds1 and 2 now 21 and 17 were small children.
