To think that this woman is a greedy bitch?

Greedy Bitch here

I believe that state handouts should be for people who genuinely need them. There is just not enough money to go around without giving them to people who are well-off. If Child Benefit was means tested, people on low incomes could be given more. That might be enough to get them off the dole and into work.

Honestly, this article had me seething. I hate greed Sad

And you don't get double the money in your pocket from earning £25k to £50k.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 02/11/2012 13:11

I do not think it is a magic everstretching amount of money. I realise costs rise with your income, generally. But you have a hell of a lot more choice than a family on 20k as to what to cut back/down.

ethelb · 02/11/2012 13:14

The thing is you don't get double the money from earnign 25k to 50k.

ethelb · 02/11/2012 13:14

ok, x post.

mumsneedwine · 02/11/2012 13:22

Any suggestions what I can cut back on ??

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 02/11/2012 13:28

mums, I'm not good at this, sorry :) butif you were in a dire situation, you could presumably stop working, as you say which would also mean you don;t need a car and/or get a job outsode of your DH's hours (or vice versa, he coulf be the one to do all this), you could also move to a slightly cheaper house?
I'm not saying ANY of this is desirable, but you do have a choice.

Violet77 · 02/11/2012 13:29

A bigger mortgage, higher heating costs, higher council tax etc. so actually probably not that muchmore true disposable income. Plus anyone with any sense will know that come pension age the 50 K plus bunch will be shafted again so much higher costs for that. Universitiy will be frighningly expensive for the 50 K plus family as well they can afford it can't they?

My Dh ears well over 50 K he works a 60 hour week, he misses his family.

I wouldn't know what its like to live on 20 K, hard i have no doubt. but wishing other to struggle is futile.

This is the begining of the end for our welfare state. What i want to highlight is that turing on others because you think that they have enough is missing this point. We are all about to loose out.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 02/11/2012 13:29

oh and BTW we're with the broadband that is a colour that's red mixed with yellow and it's about £23
It's not wonderful but our phones and BB were pretty crap with BT too

mumsneedwine · 02/11/2012 13:37

Cheaper house for 7 of us would be good ! Ours is worth about £350,000 which is pretty good for the SE. If only we could live somewhere cheaper !!! I also look after my parents so need to stay local (they are not entitled to any state help despite working 45 years), & husbands work is in an even more expensive area.
Will look into Orange broadband as that sounds good !! Our £45 covers phone line rental, all calls and broadband so would it still be cheaper ?
And I don't want to give up work !! It might not pay much but I get a lot of satisfaction from it. I am the only person locally who has my qualifications and I don't charge the going rate to the various NGOs - I'd be too expensive otherwise !

FromEsme · 02/11/2012 13:38

Violet you have the choice NOT to live in a bigger house with a bigger mortgage and higher council tax though.

Violet77 · 02/11/2012 13:44

If people didn't live in bigger houses they wouldn't pay stamp duty, tax on the sale etc etc that's our model, its how it all works. Its why they want us to spend our way out if the recession.

You will never win an argument saying people should all downsize or have less the country would fail.

I don't want to get into a debate on whAt people earn, i could say you could earn more than 20 K why can't you .....we do???????? People just can't can they not every one can earn in the top ten % it doesn't work like that.

THE BIGGER PICTURE is we will all loose out.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 02/11/2012 13:45

fromesme some of us are in negative equity and cannot afford to move.

mumsneedwine · 02/11/2012 13:48

When all kids are home we have 3 in one bedroom and 2 in the other. Made me laugh when the government recently came out and said that kids who share a bedroom are in poverty. Downsizing would mean shoving some of them into the shed.

FromEsme · 02/11/2012 13:48

But you have a choice, Violet, that's my point.

mumsneedwine · 02/11/2012 13:55

Sorry, whats my choice ??

Prarieflower · 02/11/2012 13:59

I'm shitting myself re uni fees as the 50-60K kids won't qualify for max loans. The 50-60 kids really are the shafted kids-no TC,no CB,uni fees and the lowest uni loans that won't cover living expenses.Seriously starting to think dp's new job which has just put us in this bracket was a huge mistake.Sad

ethelb · 02/11/2012 14:01

@mums I'm quite shocked you don't get help for the three nieces and nephews you look after tbh. Is their uni funding really based on your earnings? if so that is appalling. I know that you probably don't think you deserve a sainthood, but I think you do Smile

Prarieflower · 02/11/2012 14:04

I think you do too.Smile

morethanpotatoprints · 02/11/2012 14:07

Violet, how much you spend has nothing to do with how much you earn. Its your disposable income. If you are earning loads of money but it all goes on bills you don't have a disposable income. I am not about to lose out and know I'm very fortunate, but I hate what is happening to those already verging on poverty when others get to keep cb who really don't need it.

Violet77 · 02/11/2012 14:08

Esme, you repeating the same thing, you have a choice ........earn more.......

Violet77 · 02/11/2012 14:08

More than, i know that read my posts!

mumsneedwine · 02/11/2012 14:08

Thank you all so much ! But sure you would all have done the same.
And no help - cos husband earns over £45,000 and we formally adopted the kids (legally was so much easier as otherwise school etc got so complicated).
I am not complaining about my lot (I love my life !!), but CB was all I did get and now that's gone. 2 kids due to go on £300 school trips in Jan 2013, and have had to go to the school and ask for help - they have been great and are letting us pay over 12 months.

FromEsme · 02/11/2012 14:11

Ha ha, you have no idea how much I earn, that has nothing to do with it. I realise that I have choices others don't though.

Violet77 · 02/11/2012 14:13

So do i, can you not read??
God i have to leave this thread.

FromEsme · 02/11/2012 14:16

Obviously I can read, or I wouldn't be able to contribute.
