Some of us do our research before making a purchase and the vehicle we buy is the one which suits our needs.

So can those who make snap judgements otherwise (yes, certain school gate mums, I do mean you and a fair few MN'ers too) go away and consider why they feel the need to criticise someone else's carefully thought through decision/choice so instantly without considering the possible factors in arriving at that choice.

Just because some people get a kick out of the admiration/envy that they can garner from showing off any lovely or expensive new clothes/handbag/car/jewellery or talking about their upcoming holiday or lounge redecoration, new furniture etc etc, don't assume that all people are like that because it smacks of judging others by the way you personally would act and might therefore actually reflect badly on you.

I honestly had no idea when I got the car some while back how much it would affect the way some acquaintances treat me.

Don't get the obsession with someone else's car. My dsis always chides my ' midlands' dh and my 'brummie' ( saying that as posie thinks its relevant not sure why) 4x4.

She takes at least 4 flights a year but then is a no it all hypocrite..

Can't stand people carries as hate the noise the doors make when shutting.

I love my 4x4 but no longer need it for business as given up child minding and two older kids left home so don't need all the space.

Lot of judgy pants.

Posie you sound like a shit driver chik!!!

sadie3 · 31/10/2012 17:20

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate I can honestly say, hand on heart that not once in my life have I ever even given thought to what the Mums at school think about my 4x4. I really dont care what other people do in their lives or how others spend their money, I am quite supprised that you would even think that someone would buy a car to show off to people at school.
I am not an envious person If I see someone happy or doing well I am genuinely pleased for them.
It must be so awful to judge people instantly by the car they drive rather than getting to know them first.

PosieParker · 31/10/2012 17:21

Grow a pair? I don't tend to spend time with people who say such sexist bilgeGrin

Tailtwister · 31/10/2012 17:23

YANBU. 4x4's definitely have their uses and I wouldn't be beyond having one myself if funds allowed.

However, it does make me smirk a bit when they all sweep into the school car park each morning, all black and shiny. It's a bit like a scene in '24', when a diplomat is getting transported. All the drivers are immaculate and tiny and look like they'll need to parachute out!

Ffs I was being tongue in cheek about the Midlands. The new money, richer than yow stuff is entirely a well founded stereotypeGrin. I can't help but judge people who needlessly consume fuel.

My sanity has just asked me to hide this thread.

The thought of people having them to show off is quite bizarre to me but perhaps that's because we live in a very affluent area where every other car is a porsche, merc, audi, bmw.

We have an X5. Don't shoot me but we will actually have two in a couple of weeks time, for about 6 weeks, until one is returned. We don't own them so really there is nothing to show off about. We have no choice about it either - we need a 7 seater and dh works for the company.

Not sure why people think X5s aren't proper 4x4s. BMW used to own landrover so I'm pretty sure the technology is the same!

On the subject of parking, it is the easiest car I have ever parked - it has a rear camera and ones under the wing mirrors so it's very easy to line up mid-space or parallel to the kerb.

careful4x4driver · 31/10/2012 17:30

Should also have said - fuel consumption is better than the MPV we used to have before

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 31/10/2012 17:37

careful4x4driver very glad you live in such a posh area where everyone drives porsche, merc, audi, bmw, nothing like a good stealth boast

catinwitchyboots · 31/10/2012 17:43

I have a big golden one.

I also live in the middle of nowhere and have horses.

I also wear my designer sunglasses what driving it to town to meet friends for lunch

I also have the back windows tinted - so people can admire the blonde in the front, but can't see the DCs in the back GrinGrin Wink

catinwitchyboots · 31/10/2012 17:44

theodorakis · 31/10/2012 17:48

Ever long, if a random in real life called me a wanker or idiot I would be even less polite. I would probably thump them.

I started as a nhs staff nurse and have worked unbelievably hard to be successful in the oil industry. I am lucky as well, things come along at the right time.

EugenesAxe · 31/10/2012 18:25

Well it's a tough one. I am sometimes tempted because of the fact that I'd quite like to be able to operate in snow, and it can get a bit nasty where we are (inexplicably, because it's not the back of beyond or anything).

On the other hand I do often get a Idol-sneer on when I see any female 4x4 driver who needs to take about a foot of my side of the road in order to drive the thing. More so if they are blonde and perfect looking shoot me.

sadie3 · 31/10/2012 18:27

Oh dear Theodorakis, your not an expat are you?

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 31/10/2012 18:31

My god lots of boasting on here have you noticed the ones with money don't need to show off. A bit crass
