Some of us do our research before making a purchase and the vehicle we buy is the one which suits our needs.

So can those who make snap judgements otherwise (yes, certain school gate mums, I do mean you and a fair few MN'ers too) go away and consider why they feel the need to criticise someone else's carefully thought through decision/choice so instantly without considering the possible factors in arriving at that choice.

Just because some people get a kick out of the admiration/envy that they can garner from showing off any lovely or expensive new clothes/handbag/car/jewellery or talking about their upcoming holiday or lounge redecoration, new furniture etc etc, don't assume that all people are like that because it smacks of judging others by the way you personally would act and might therefore actually reflect badly on you.

I honestly had no idea when I got the car some while back how much it would affect the way some acquaintances treat me.

i wont deny it higgs our 4X4 was very expensive and my DH is on a very good wage, so obviously it is a sign of wealth.

I live in a city and IMO there is no need to have a 4x4 if you live in one, unless your elderly mother lives in the middle of Dartmoor.

The huge BMW, Porsche, Audis and VWs are by far the worst, usually accompanied by idiots in hunting jackets or 'designer' wear. [shudder] They also think they own the road.

I, as a blanket rule, instantly hate anyone that drives an X6.

Women in high heels and shades who trundle up to the school in a big juggernaut so that Posy and Rosie will be as safe as houses and
mummy wants to show off are twats.

If you live half way up a mountain or regulary tow horseboxes around or get snowed in for weeks every year that is different and not twattish showing off.

Childminders, large families, disabled dependants, running business so needs lots of boot space for samples, boxes!!

Oh and by the way. Mind your own business....

What's wrong with people carriers thebody? They have plenty of space but aren't as bulky and vision obscuring as 4x4s.

I have two monster trucks and I wouldn't be seen dead doing the school run every day. Anyone who thinks hanging around outside their kid's school to socialise/show off needs to get a life of their own, Range Rover, Micra or 2CbloodyV

I love my massive 4x4. I love it even more when everyone moans about the snow and crappy winter weather. I'd love to replace it but can't find anything with a heated steering wheel and heated seats boot big enough for work - we even looked at a VW van last week and the 'boot' wasn't big enough.

I offset my shiny 4x4 with 2nd hand kids clothes, poundland and lidl.

Large families would be fucking idiots to get a 4x4, total space wasters.

No, it's not okay to call me an idiot for caring about the planet and not wanting people in pedestrian killings to drive around needlessly in cities.

And noone mentioned rich people, I can almost guarantee that 'rich people' are not wearing 'designer' (hugely labelled clothing) and driving around oin a city in a 4x4 unless they are pretty thick. (there are loads of them)

And I'm not poor, I have a large family and would never drive a 4x4 as they're all too small for us.

And if you drive one of those god awful American massive pick ups you should be forced to emigrate to where the car was made.

Again, I can also call people idiots because I think they have twattish views. I just have a much nicer car. You shouldn't be allowed to go round calling people names for the car they drive, it isn't nice to be called a stupid wanker idiot is it?
Oh, and laugh at them as well for their shit little cars. Again, as long as it is at the rich successful persons expense it's acceptable.

Yes because all rich people have big families. Hardly a badge of success.

of course it doesn't snow 365 days a year, it's just one of dozens of reasons why we chose it - top one being because we could and wanted to and have a large family and didn't want a people carrier.

I quite fancy a Barbour wax jacket and Hunter wellies to go with my 4x4, perfect for standing at the side of the muddy football field on Saturday morning, and when it gets too cold we can sit in the boot.
