Some of us do our research before making a purchase and the vehicle we buy is the one which suits our needs.

So can those who make snap judgements otherwise (yes, certain school gate mums, I do mean you and a fair few MN'ers too) go away and consider why they feel the need to criticise someone else's carefully thought through decision/choice so instantly without considering the possible factors in arriving at that choice.

Just because some people get a kick out of the admiration/envy that they can garner from showing off any lovely or expensive new clothes/handbag/car/jewellery or talking about their upcoming holiday or lounge redecoration, new furniture etc etc, don't assume that all people are like that because it smacks of judging others by the way you personally would act and might therefore actually reflect badly on you.

I honestly had no idea when I got the car some while back how much it would affect the way some acquaintances treat me.

We live at the end of a 3 mile long unmade track which regularly turns into an impassable mud bath and I got fed up with getting stuck in it.

We also tow a RIB

But also because a bloke locally knocks them out second hand for £1500 which was all we could really afford when we needed to buy a second car.

But actually, I don't have to justify my car choices to anyone

One of my neighbours likes to be judgemental about my car, but whose door do you think he knocks on when his Nissan Micra is stuck in the mud (again)

If it's a proper 4x4 then you're ok, there are many good reasons for having one.

If it's a Range Rover Sport or Evoque, a BMW X3, 5 or 6, a Porsche Cayenne or anything similar you just just go hang your head (and your Chelsea Tractor) in shame :P

and then there's the twat 4x4 mother from the local private school with one hand on her phone the other holding her coffee driving with her knees. Of course her kids are safe and fine if she has a prang.

I am afraid that people do have to justify their car usage when their decisions have a big and unpleasant impact on their immediate neighbours. If you think you have a right to attempt to squeeze your enormous car down my narrow street, you need to examine your own narcissistic choices.

I cannot understand at all why anyone living in a city needs such a vehicle.

O yes dreaming, I was told by one 4*4 friend that I 'had' to get such a car when I had a child for 'safety'. Managed in a polo perfectly fine. She however could only navigate the challenging terrain of Kentish Town in her quasi tank.

lucky blibble is here to make a chart of what is acceptable. Why don't you make a tick list so we can know if we are allowed to keep our vehicles or not? Who actually are you? the vehicle guru?

Spero, I think most of us would avoid tiny little streety areas where you cant drive properly, estate or 4x4.

And if it's white blibble that is not acceptable. Wink Because it does look very silly.

YANBU but I will continue to judge those who drive them in urban areas and slow down to go over pot holes or speed bumps (rolls eyes).

Well I sometimes judge fuzzy haired middle aged women in crap clothes and wonder why they don't want to look nice. Radars as you said.

If you don't live rurally and you have a 4x4, you are a selfish wanker

But tis true, you don't need to justify your vehicle choice to anyone

No would be jealous of my deffender lol it's a proper farm wagon! More mud on it than a field covered with feed sacks usually got a few dogs in the back or some times a calf or sheep, I think I get more funny looks and my son goes to a village school! I do like a good laugh when people really struggle to park them though!

I think people who cram their children into crappo shit heaps and cover the rear window with stickers are selfish wankers. I don't want to be stuck behind a child filled micra on the motorway thanks and I will overtake you.

Report
theodorakis · 31/10/2012 09:57

I don't care either, the clue is in the selfish! At least we look nice and are safe from the crappo micra unsafe car brigade.

I hate them ever since having to endure my entire street clogged up with BMW, AlfaRomeo, Porsche 4x4s dropping their kids at the private school.

The drivers do not look for my children walking along the pavement. They do crazy reversing on to pavement, park on corners making it impossible for my children to cross the road safely, their vehicles are so enormous they seem unable to see around them

These people do not trail in from the Scottish highlands, they live in the surrounding suburbs of our city. Two years ago these incredibly heavy cars could not cope with snow and ice and were skidding and getting stuck on the hill.

I hate them.

They are also very vulgar.

aboutlastnight your kids go to private school and you dont drive a 4x4? oh dear there is always one who lets the side down private school and you call them kids, not children! Shock

Report
OwedToAutumn · 31/10/2012 10:20

Was the private school there before you moved in aboutlastnight, or after.

We looked at our dream house a few years ago, but ruled it out partly because it was right next to a private school, and we knew that we would be constantly blocked in by people dropping their DC at the school. Some even in 4x4s!
