to take the piss out of 4x4s

Picked dd up from school today, she pointed at I think a Landrover Freelander (I'm not an expert) in the car park, and said 'why is that there?'

I said 'maybe they're a farmer'.

Said vehicle had clearly been the subject of regular waxing, leather interior, and so on and looked the shiniest vehicle in the car park, so this was obviously not the case, certainly not in this area.

DD said 'maybe they built that building there?'

'Maybe', I said.

I could say 'because some people make inappropriate and antisocial car choices'.

But taking the piss seems better?

Some people need 'em. Some don't.

And if you don't, it's a free country: you're free to drive something silly, everyone else is free to think what they want about that. Quote

Totally agree MrsBethel

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:27

How do you know people's needs? You're judging on the basis of knowing fuck all about fuck all! Clever!

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:30

But we didn't comment on any individual MrsKeith we are talking in general not guessing on specific people's needs.

You sound awfully defensive, if I may say so. Smile

cumfy · 31/10/2012 14:31

It's all starting to make sense now.

4x4s WIN, cyclists you are LOOOOOOSERS.
Eat my exhaust LOOOOSERS.Grin

Whatasecret · 31/10/2012 14:31

I have a 4x4 for no other reason than I liked it and wanted one. I don't live in the country, I don't tow anything and I don't go off road. I could have got a sensible people carrier but I don't like them. I couldn't care less if you make fun, why would I care?

skateboarder · 31/10/2012 14:32

I drive a 4x4 sometimes. I probably look like a slummy mummy (no yummy round here!) doing the school run. I care not. I can drive it, I can park it and it means I can get round in bad weather. Driving my normal car I get let out a lot more and people are generally more courteous. Funny that, [sceptical]

MrsBethel · 31/10/2012 14:33

I spy a category 3 owner, TheBolter. This is a fun game!

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:36

Defensive? Perhaps, I just find the whole thing so ludicrous!

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:37

So it's ok to generally assume everyone is a twat because of their vehicle choice?

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:41

No, its okay to generally assume that if someone is driving a car that causes inconvenience and increased risk to other road users for no other reason than they think it looks 'cool' or is a symbol of their wealth that they are twats.
And before you ask me how I know its for no other reason, I have said up thread that the vast amount of them now visible around suburban streets and car parks is a clear indication that a lot of people are not buying them because they sometimes go off road or have 10 children or whatever.

OscarPistoriusGirlfriend · 31/10/2012 14:45

I miss my jeep. It was great. Sad

I'm in the market for a new car, was looking at an mpv, might go back to a 4x4, it'll look lovely in the drive next to dh's (leased) BMW with its tinted windows. Grin

Of course the fact that his car is through his job and I run a stables will be of no consequence to the wearers of judgey pants on here, but as long as we can give them something to keep them busy then that's good, their lives must be awfully empty if that's all they have to worry about. Wink

prudencesmom · 31/10/2012 14:46

When I hear 4x4 I think of Ulrika Grin
I cannot stand them taking two spaces in car parks.
Fugly mobiles, but then I cant bear to see tractors either, and the long queues of traffic that go two mph behind them.
Anyhow they are on hire purchase. Big deal. Show me the money.

sarflondongal99 · 31/10/2012 14:46

Jusfloating - how many of your life choices inconvenience others then? Ever take a pushchair on a bus? Ever park on a residential street that isn't where you live? I don't get why this isn't also aimed at estate cars? A standard estate car is Way way longer than my 4x4. So it's aimed at tall cars then? It's nonsensical. If someone is a considerate driver who is properly in control of his car it doesn't matter.

ClippedPhoenix · 31/10/2012 14:50

An estate may be longer but it isn't wider. I live in London next to a private school and it's bloody ridiculous. I'm with justfloating on this 100%

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:50

sarflong this is a thread about 4x4s which is why I am commenting on 4x4s. Confused Confused

ClippedPhoenix · 31/10/2012 14:51

as wide that should have read.

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:52

I love the comments that people who are complaining about how 4x4s are dangerous and inconvenient on the road are doing so because their lives must be 'empty'. How logical.

sarflondongal99 · 31/10/2012 14:54

Yeah but the arguments you make are nonsensical. If its about not being able to park? Not the cars fault. Ditto driving. You should be complaining about rubbish drivers, not their cars. again, my 4x4 is the same width as my neighbours VW....

Clipped - I can't understand why people buy houses next to Schools then moan about all the big cars on the road. You don't say...

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:55

Where did I say 4x4 users couldn't park??

ClippedPhoenix · 31/10/2012 14:55
Grin
sarflondongal99 · 31/10/2012 14:55

Anyway. Bowing out now. As fascinating as this is, off to take my DD to gymnastics in my 4x4. Arf :)

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:56

Neatly avoided Sarflong.

But I think you must have mixed me up with another poster.

ClippedPhoenix · 31/10/2012 14:57

I didn't Sar. The house came first and the school came second Grin

sarflondongal99 · 31/10/2012 14:59

Quite possibly so jus - and my apologies if so. Tootle pip!

FunBagFreddie · 31/10/2012 15:08

At the school near me, even the parents with small cars manage to drive and park like twats.
