to take the piss out of 4x4s

Picked dd up from school today, she pointed at I think a Landrover Freelander (I'm not an expert) in the car park, and said 'why is that there?'

I said 'maybe they're a farmer'.

Said vehicle had clearly been the subject of regular waxing, leather interior, and so on and looked the shiniest vehicle in the car park, so this was obviously not the case, certainly not in this area.

DD said 'maybe they built that building there?'

'Maybe', I said.

I could say 'because some people make inappropriate and antisocial car choices'.

But taking the piss seems better?

Jesus I'm dripfeeding and I'm not even the OP!

Our Landy is often spotless, even though it can regularly be seen bocketing down muddy lanes and even goes off road!

But that's because DH looks after it. Shocking concept eh.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/10/2012 23:55

ShelleyBoobd dammit,I forgot that bit! Thing is 4x4 drivers often are road bullies, simply by virtue of the fact they're less aware of other, smaller cars, so unless one is also driving a 4x4/ a lorry it pays to be wary.

Actually I have no problem with 4x4's when people live in the countryside/work on farms or generally outdoors. Just when one lives smack bang in the middle of a city.

JoanBias · 30/10/2012 23:55

I saw an Audi Q7 (inevitably in chav bling bling white) parked up the road today and said 'look at that ridiculous fat car, why is it so fat'?

OP posts:
Alisvolatpropiis · 30/10/2012 23:56

Fakebook why are you worried about parking it? Surely no one is sad enough to actually damage one? I might not like them most of the time but criminal damage is where I draw a line!

scottishmummy · 30/10/2012 23:56

how crushingly dull and obvious.are you smug cause you cycle?
I'd rather talk to 4x4 driver than a smug cyclist droning on about 4x4
it's the sense of entitlement a 4x4=opportunity to crow on in a preachy manner

ShellyBoobs · 31/10/2012 00:00

I think you pressed 'post message' too soon, JoanBias.

The punchline is missing.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2012 00:00

Mine looks like a 4x4 that is used for agricultural purposes. Is that alright?

I am great at parking it and I can drive safely in snow.

AbbyRue · 31/10/2012 00:00

I love my 4x4 just because...

So meh Grin

Op you saw a Q7 and wittily quipped why is that car so fat? Wow it must be laugh a minute in your house.

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 00:01

The Freelander is not that bad (I think it was a Freelander anyway), obviously they are a silly design that blocks other road users' view of the road, but they are not as bad as the real bling 4x4s that might as well come equipped with a loudhailer pumping out Harry Enfield shouting 'I am considerably richer than yow' while cutting people up and on zigzag lines outside schools and blocking disabled spaces to pick up the drycleaning:

A prime example of the breed:

Nancy [hgrin]

scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 00:03

so do tell what else do you wittily harrumph about?
allergies, house prices,school catchments?
or just obvious middle class isn't it all so right on ire about big cars

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 00:05

"it's the sense of entitlement a 4x4=opportunity to crow on in a preachy manner"

Just the way of the world I'm afraid. Car drivers generally like to crow on about how 'cyclists' do this and 'cyclists' do that. I'm hardly in a position to change their minds, so better to reciprocate with '4x4s do this', 'BMWs do that'.

No, not big cars, just 4x4s.

Joan, I think you need to get yourself a hobby love.

ShellyBoobs · 31/10/2012 00:07

What about car drivers who are also cyclists?

scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 00:07

no it's the way of the puffed up bumptious mc
harrumphing about big cars, passive aggressive bullying
and it's lame.even mark Thomas probably admits that's it's stale now

nancy75 · 31/10/2012 00:08

Just 4x4s? What about bright pink stretch limos are they ok?

sleeplessinsuburbia · 31/10/2012 00:09

I'm in the city, have a 4wd for the 8 seats. It doesn't seem bigger than the mini vans I have seen but I prefer it as it is useful for camping and off roading. It also uses less diesel than the small Astra I had!

If you don't have lots of children or like camping or off roading then don't buy one, not sure why you'd care about my needs being different to yours.

CoolaSchmoola · 31/10/2012 00:10

My bike fits beautifully in the back of the Landrover..... [hgrin].

Only if they've got at least 6 members of a hen party hanging out of the sunroof screeching and spilling alcopops all over the place.

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 00:10

I don't see many pink stretch limos waiting in the 'no parking zone' outside the school.

Not many elephant-drawn rickshaws either. Perhaps in India?

Oh, fuck off.

My dad traded his estate car for a 4x4 because he is physically disabled and it is far far easier for him to get in and out of because of the height.

They aren't hurting for money so he got a swanky VW one. Most of the things he loves he can't do any more because of the pain he is in. He loves cars and gets a great deal of pleasure out if his shinily waxed leather interior, somewhat bling 4x4. Naturally you can tell none if this when you see his car parked outside his suburban home, so I expect you would judge him. However, you and your judges pants can do one.
