to take the piss out of 4x4s

Picked dd up from school today, she pointed at I think a Landrover Freelander (I'm not an expert) in the car park, and said 'why is that there?'

I said 'maybe they're a farmer'.

Said vehicle had clearly been the subject of regular waxing, leather interior, and so on and looked the shiniest vehicle in the car park, so this was obviously not the case, certainly not in this area.

DD said 'maybe they built that building there?'

'Maybe', I said.

I could say 'because some people make inappropriate and antisocial car choices'.

But taking the piss seems better?

But is that acceptable annunzita? Is that a good enough excuse? Does that excuse you from bein labeled a twat?

Won't someone please clarify!!

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:14

Exactly TheBolter.

sarflondongal99 · 31/10/2012 14:14

Hahaha. Yabu!!! What right have you to dictate someones car choice? Mind your own business!

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:16

Oh right, so your not expecting people to justify their choices, you'll just judge them regardless.

Awesome.

Annunziata · 31/10/2012 14:16

Why do you care then, thebolter? It's a car. Crappy little bangers can run into the backs of cars and people too.

Grin MrsKeithRichards. Of course not. I should squeeze them all into a clio.

waterlego6064 · 31/10/2012 14:16

MrsKeithRichards

I'm glad you asked. If you could avoid wearing oversized sunglasses and those long plastic nails with gems stuck on them, that might make your 4x4 driving acceptable.

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:16

Eh, you just said your choice is no concern of ours.

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 31/10/2012 14:17

People have a right to be concerned about the number of 4x4s on the road they damage the environment more than other cars, take up lots of room on the road and a not nearly as safe for pedestrians.

sarflondongal99 · 31/10/2012 14:17

Only if we drive a micra are we ok eh? Sports car? Tosser!! 4x4? How dare she?????

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:18

Are you sure?

To be fair I think the age of the motors I'm thinking about would take me out of twat territory but it would be nice for one of the twat callers to confirm the exclusions. Just so we're all clear!

waterlego6064 · 31/10/2012 14:18

Also, the white ones aren't acceptable. HTH.

Annunziata · 31/10/2012 14:18

Oh good I wear my sunglasses all the time. I don't have nails though. What about leopard print? Grin

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:18

Annunziata
Yes, crappy little cars can hit people but it is far far more dangerous to be involved in an accident with an SUV. Also crappy little cars don't obscure people's views in carparks and at junctions. If people want to show off or whatever fine. But if they're making it difficult for me to drive safely then I will feel perfectly free to comment.

sarflondongal99 · 31/10/2012 14:19

I'll add that I drive one. In the city. Never in the country. Just to do the school run. And no I don't give a flying fcuk what you think. Next!

"If you can't take the piss out of city 4x4s, then what can you take the piss out of?

Smug twats on bikes?"

Grin Grin Grin

I will confess to feeling a bit pissed off about the city-stricken 4x4-ers. They sometimes manage to ensure that all 4x4 drivers are tarred with the same brush. Of course, the kind of people who would like to tar all 4x4 drivers with the same brush are guilty there too though.

I tow a variety of trailers with my Shogun, and it spends a considerable amount of time off-road. We live down a dirt track that becomes impassable in the winter without a 4x4. Mine works. And yes, I do drive it to pick my kids up from school sometimes, and I go to the shops, and into town. Because I don't have another car. Sometimes I even clean the mud off it, and give it a wipe down inside. You cannot tell anything about me and how I use my car purely by making a snap judgement about me if you happen to see my car looking clean outside school.

waterlego6064 · 31/10/2012 14:20

Leopard print? Well...depends if you're being ironic.

FunBagFreddie · 31/10/2012 14:21

Actually the obscuring the view issue is fair enough, it irks me too, but not enough to curse all 4x4s. I'm too scared to get one myself, because I don't think I could park one.

MrsBethel · 31/10/2012 14:22

I, for one, think it's a good thing that society is moving more towards taking the piss our of the unnecessary waste of resources.

Some people need 'em. Some don't.

And if you don't, it's a free country: you're free to drive something silly, everyone else is free to think what they want about that.

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:22

What about vans just? Or people carriers? Or pick ups? Or camper vans? Or Luton vans? Or tractors? Or lorries? Or fire engines? Ambulances? Ice cream vans? Postie vans? The fish mongers? Milk floats?

Jeez...

I can think of loads of things as big or bigger than 4x4's!

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:23

Backinthebox
I don't think most people on here have objected to people using 4x4s with good reason. It is people who don't need them but drive them around the suburbs anyway who are the problem. There are way too many of these tanks on suburban roads and in suburban car parks to all be owned by people who live in the middle of the country and only come into town now and again to shop or drop the children off somewhere.

Annunziata · 31/10/2012 14:23

But buses and lorries surely obscure the view too? Do you moan about them? It's a big car. Some of us need big cars.

Nope, perfectly serious. I like leopard print.

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 14:24

Yes MrsKeith but they are necessary. Its people who don't need them but drive them anyway that most of us are judging. I think that's been made very clear by now. [yawn]

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:24

We can all buy the new chav uniform of hunters and Barbour and then we can really confuse people.

waterlego6064 · 31/10/2012 14:25

Well at least you're honest, annun.

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 14:26

Who are you to deem what is and isn't necessary?

Nippy little ka's that hide in spaces getting my hopes up that there's a free space? Totally unnecessary!
