to take the piss out of 4x4s

Picked dd up from school today, she pointed at I think a Landrover Freelander (I'm not an expert) in the car park, and said 'why is that there?'

I said 'maybe they're a farmer'.

Said vehicle had clearly been the subject of regular waxing, leather interior, and so on and looked the shiniest vehicle in the car park, so this was obviously not the case, certainly not in this area.

DD said 'maybe they built that building there?'

'Maybe', I said.

I could say 'because some people make inappropriate and antisocial car choices'.

But taking the piss seems better?

You're just being ridiculous Joan. But considering your OP, that hardly comes as a surprise.

scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 12:43

I really must go look at some 4x4
high visibility, shiny interiors, pisses off the worthy harrumphers
next tine I'm in one I must congratulate the mum on her wise buy

Only if they have those "running lights" Everlong Wink

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 31/10/2012 12:47

I miss my bull bars.

FunBagFreddie · 31/10/2012 12:47

I'm planning to get a mini cooper, and I get scared trying to park big cars and driving them. Blush

I don't judge people in big 4x4's though, just have admiration at their superior parking skills.

WileyRoadRunner · 31/10/2012 12:48

Strangely OP as a pedestrian I have always found cyclists far more inconsiderate than drivers.

They can be a cut-throat lot! Angry

RinderThrillerNight · 31/10/2012 12:53

Wiley agree/ Yesterday for example I was driving in Bristol. I was turning right at traffic lights and was waiting for the right lane filter light to turn green. After it did (all oncoming cars had stopped), a cyclist came flying up from the oncoming traffic (therefore he must have gone through a red light) and I just managed to miss him. If I had hit him, no doubt he would have been injured. But it most definitely have been his fault, not mine. Thankfully he was very lucky that I had my wits about me.

Not driving a 4x4 does not render you blameless or without responsibility for your own actions Joan.

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 12:55

Yes I know Wiley, those bastards on the pavement eh?

So damn selfish aren't they?

entitled cyclists jump green lights, ride on pavement, charge around riding at kids/pedestrians
ive never encountered a car jumping green light when I'm crossing
never encountered car on pavement caressing at speed at pedestrians

scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 12:58

2yo story to prove prevalence of car riding pavement?
I know that area well, dreadful accident

scottishmummy, about fifty pedestrians are killed each year on the pavement by motor vehicles.

OP, your original post was nothing to do with emissions/danger to pedestrians/general road safety.

Your question was AIBU to take the piss out of 4x4s?

You then told us how you mocked the drivers to your child
You then tarred every 4x4 city driver with the same brush
You then shared a 'hilarious' Hmm anecdote about an Audi looking fat.

Had you started a debate discussing the potential danger to pedestrians and churned out your stats (and I agree with the poster who said it would be easy to google challenging stats), you might not have sounded so ridiculous.

PoppyAmex · 31/10/2012 13:07

"Well yes, as you say - that does make you sound like a right cunt."

I've reported your post
You have repeatedly insulted people on this thread and clearly aren't able to make a point without sounding vile.

jjuice · 31/10/2012 13:09

oops forgot the sense of humour transplant on here today. It was a joke by a friend based on the assumption that all 4x4s guzzle fuel and have really bad emissions whereas his estate car uses more fuel and has way higher emissions than my clog.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 31/10/2012 13:09

Erm, I was quoting the poster herself! And where have I 'repeatedly insulted' anyone, please?

MrsKeithRichards · 31/10/2012 13:09

Anyway, to summarise, yes op you are being very unreasonable to take the piss out of 4x4's. They can't hear you.

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 13:11

A lot of them have video cameras to make up for the fact their owners are driving a ridiculous vehicle they can't park. So maybe they can hear. Wink

Jusfloatingby · 31/10/2012 13:12

I am sure 4x4s are very useful if you spend your days driving across fields or up mountains. People who use them to drop their two kids to school in the suburbs or to go to the shopping centre are twats who don't give a damn about other people's safety. I am sick of having my view in car parks completely obscured by these stupid ugly looking cars or having to wait for ages behind right turning traffic when I'm turning left because some idiot is sitting across two lanes in their big tank.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 31/10/2012 13:12

But do make sure you also report rinders for saying the OP 'thinks like a cunt', while you're at it, won't you?

FunBagFreddie · 31/10/2012 13:13

Some bastard cyclist nearly ran me down on the zebra crossing outside the Co-op a while back. Mind you, an old fella did as well, and he was in a car.
