Ok so there were pissed people and fighting people. But, the programme also focused on the female Police officers and ambulance staff and they were so inspiring. The young custody sergeant at the end basically summed it up by saying that it is a great time to be a woman and, ok some people abuse it but the opportunities for young women are there and she is surrounded by strong female role models in the force. I was very moved by their commitment and strength and was especially moved by the ending when they reminded us that recently two young women were killed on duty in similar circumstances. So, the sensationalist Daily Mail type "isn't the UK awful" slant they tried to use backfired in my opinion.

I found the programme depressing, people queuing at the cashpoint so they can withdraw Bru money on the stroke of midnight and immediately spend it on booze or drugs. People with mental health issues continually harassing emergency services and preventing them from getting on with other work. Anyone who works for the emergency services deserves a medal, I know I couldn't be as patient and caring.

I watch it but I do find it depressing at times.

In the episode you mention, one of the women said she thinks getting drunk is 'un lady like'....that made me roll my eyes.

But YANBU, it's quite an informative show.

I was planning on going for my birthday .. i love fun fairs.

I was a bit at the 'positive role model' female cop saying ' a bit of lippy is the best weapon' or something... apparently she was disciplined for applying it whilst sat in her police car!

She didn't bloody stop applying it, it looked awful in the end.

Step was she disciplined? I was shocked when I saw her doing that whilst driving.

Thank you, that was nice to read. I have seen some bad comments, mainly because of the way some of it was edited. The film crew were lovely, and really did spend 24/7 with us, we were sad when they left!

worra yes apparently so but I thought it was for doing it whilst sat in car not actually driving, but actually you are right, I seem to remember she was driving so yup entirely justifiable, no different to a mobile IMO

What's Bru money? Is it money to spend on Irn Bru? That doesn't sound too bad to me. It does give you girders after all.

I rewound it to check that she actually was driving cos I couldn't believe she'd be so blatant!

I have nothing but admiration for the emergency service workers but I did find the whole thing thoroughly depressing.

I was, but no idea if I will be shown. The job can be depressing, and rewarding and frustrating an a whole other mix but this documentary I think has been the most brutally honest one

I just found the programme real sad and a bit poverty porn in places. Some of police or ambulance came across really well though. Some.

DH commented that the Tories didn't really need to spend money on a party political broadcast. They could just show this. It seems to be generating plenty of benefit bashing on my Facebook so I think he's right

I went to Blackpool about a year ago for what was meant to be a fun/cheesy weekend.

Had images of it being like a bit of a naff, typicallly British seaside resort.
Was hands down the worst place in Britain i've ever been to. Just horrible.

It depresses the hell out of me. The girls fighting.. the man getting stabbed.. woman giving boy blow job on the beach.. parents letting their 3 year old wonder around the city for an hour before realising he'd gone...

So bloody depressing that this is what it is like now.

And I wish she'd piss off with that lipstick.

Even if you go in the day, which I now don't so this is going back a few years, you see stag and hen do's vomiting in the street and people swearing at small children. There's also usually a queue of people with PS2s in carrier bags waiting for cash convertors to open. Grim and depressing.

I want to move as, where we are is nice but as DS grows up he will want to go out there :(

DH points out that Rightmove don't have a selection of homes in the 1950s but I think it is worse than most towns. It's has a lot of violence. :(

It's one of the most depressing places I have ever hd the misfortune of visiting. That and Rhyl. Awful. Great big scabs on our coastline.

We go to the coast for our summer holidays and there's a lot of "characters" around. I love it myself & it's different when you're on holiday but there's definitely something in the sea air.

As for the programme it's become a must watch for me and DP. I love the human side it shows & it's very non judgemental. Beat coppers must have a very special kind of patience.

I thought it was depressing as hell. The way the officer dealt with that poor prostitute and his " Jeremy Kyle " comment was disgraceful. As for that" lippy" woman was dreadful.
People loosing their babies in the street and the officers bringing them back smiling and having a laugh with the parents

I found the emergency workers inspiring. And some of the people they focussed on - such as the alcoholic who is now recovering were amazing. He was completely unrecognizable from the person who had dialled 999.

The domestic violence episode was also brilliant. The girl who had seen her abusive ex through court presented herself so well I thought it should be seen by every woman.
