Ok so there were pissed people and fighting people. But, the programme also focused on the female Police officers and ambulance staff and they were so inspiring. The young custody sergeant at the end basically summed it up by saying that it is a great time to be a woman and, ok some people abuse it but the opportunities for young women are there and she is surrounded by strong female role models in the force. I was very moved by their commitment and strength and was especially moved by the ending when they reminded us that recently two young women were killed on duty in similar circumstances. So, the sensationalist Daily Mail type "isn't the UK awful" slant they tried to use backfired in my opinion.

I watch it every week but usually end up in tears at the sheer hopelessness of some peoples lives. makes me wonder what has happened to them to end up in such a sad state.

I watch it and find it incredibly depressing. It's hard to believe that some people really live like that and I'm not from a privileged background.

The recovered/ing alcoholic story was very touching though.

Until then I'd been sitting there huffing and puffing and being all indignant about 'these people' - really taught me a lesson in not judging.

Hi brighthair I've only seen one episode, but used to work with Allan a long, long time ago. He still seems like a really nice bloke, and think those of you in the control room came off better than some of the other professionals.
Blackpool certainly attracts more than its fair share of dodgy characters. I was too scared (and too nerdy) to ever go out drinking when I was growing up there.
