Johnathan Ross and Bear Grylls. BG just ripped the head off of a live cricket so that JR can eat it. This REALLY fucks me off. Its a living creature FGS. Show some respect!

With you on this one.

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2012 23:19

I feel like that when I watch I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Sad

FrothyDragon · 27/10/2012 23:19

YANBU. If it was a slug, on the other hand...

VivaLeBeaver · 27/10/2012 23:19

Yes, always feel sorry for the rats and insects in the jungle programme.

ScabbyColdCrustyCatPuss · 27/10/2012 23:20

I cant stand it. IASGMOOH makes my blood boil!

I totally agree with you scabby, but you can do just whatever you like to an insect or any other invertebrate, there are no welfare laws to protect them. Its quite wrong. I know they are "only" insects by why hurt/kill something if you don't actually have to - its just mindless, oh and DP has just turned JR on so i suppose im going to be subjected to it. FFS

ScabbyColdCrustyCatPuss · 27/10/2012 23:23

Im not perfect, Ill swat flies and marmalise the odd spider, Id feed a cricket to a lizard, but this is purely for entertainment. Lets rip the crickets head off and toss ot on the floor, so that JR can chew it up and spit it out and the audience laugh.

This is one of the many reasons why i don't watch "im a fucking idiot who you have never heard of get me out of here", it must be extremely distressing for the rats, snakes etc. I'd watch an episode though if one sank their teeth in a "celebrity's" noses!

lucyellenmum · 27/10/2012 23:25

no fly swatting or spider killing for me though! or ants, or slugs or anything really, why would i?

KellyElly · 27/10/2012 23:26

YANBU

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2012 23:26

I'm a hypocrite though cos I love watching I'm a Celeb

MrsCantSayAnything · 27/10/2012 23:31

I must have a cold heart. It's a cricket. People eat things every day.

ledkr · 27/10/2012 23:32

Totally agree is there anything we can do

MrsCantSayAnything · 27/10/2012 23:32

But like Lucy I wont kill for the sake of it. He was eating the cricket though. So that's different.

MrsCantSayAnything · 27/10/2012 23:32

Ledkr complain to...er...Save the Cricket?

CurrentBun · 27/10/2012 23:34

I nearly started a thread about this too Scabby, it's really out of order. I think we should all complain! Anyone know who to exactly?

OnwardBound · 27/10/2012 23:38

I agree. I thought this was one of the crassest things I've seen on tv.

No problem with people eating insects if required when actually in the wild, ie for survival not for entertainment on IACGMOOH.

But to see BG demonstrating his manly aptitude for insect eating by casually ripping the head and legs off that cricket whilst JR played the fool and spat the remains on the floor whilst the audience laughed...

It was thoughtless casual cruelty. Not amusing. And should not be allowed for entertainment's sake imho.

ScabbyColdCrustyCatPuss · 27/10/2012 23:39

Mrs, he didnt eat the cricket. He chewed it up and spat it onto the floor!

I feel the same about shellfish too and lobsters and crabs being cooked alive

lucyellenmum · 27/10/2012 23:44

I have more of a problem with the use of rats and snakes in those boxes on that celeb program than the insects as to be fair insects do have a pretty rudimentary nervous system and im not entirely sure they perceive pain the same way as we do, however i don't agree with killing ANYTHING for the sake of it, its needless and pathetic.

lambinapram · 27/10/2012 23:44

I agree. There was also a thread on here a few days ago about killing spiders which I hated.

ledkr · 27/10/2012 23:45

I don't even kill spiders and I'm dead scared of them

lucyellenmum · 27/10/2012 23:45

oh don't even get me started on lobsters :( they DO have pain perception and are actually relatively intelligent creatures. I cannot stand the way they are kept "alive" just to keep them fresh, I read somewhere that this causes them a great deal of distress too, i refuse to eat it.

MaryZcary · 27/10/2012 23:52

I have to say, my compassion stops at mammals Blush. And possibley larger fish and reptiles, I'm not sure why. I would prefer things were killed quickly, but while I'm happy to put a cup over a spider and leave it until one of the boys deals with it, or use a jam jar to catch wasps during a bbq, I find it hard to get upset over the occasional cricket or bug.
