To be annoyed by live insects being exploited in the name of entertainment?

Johnathan Ross and Bear Grylls. BG just ripped the head off of a live cricket so that JR can eat it. This REALLY fucks me off. Its a living creature FGS. Show some respect!

It doesn't upset me, it just makes me think that the people do it are idiots - but then i have always thought JR is a twunt anyway :)

We actually eat insects all the time, there in our chocolate bars and bred to kill to use in our food.

I may be being overdramatic but when anyone says that insects only have a rudimentary nervous system and probably don't perceive pain in the same way we do I am reminded that this is what the medical profession used to believe about human babies.

So if we are not 100% sure that insects don't feel pain why would we want to deliberately inflict needless suffering on them?

Onward - they pretty much are a bundle of reflexes (i spent three years studying this and have had to do some pretty vile things to flies in the process) so whilst a fly will react to "noxious stimuli" it is a reflex. Lobsters however do have pain receptors, im not sure how i know this. Very different to the nervous systems of humans, but still, lets not be killing things just for fun!!

That is an interesting point you make about the babies though beause i remember reading this with regards to tail docking in dogs. It used to be believed that this was sort of ok to do with new born pups as their nervous system isn't fully developed but this has actually been refuted now and it turns out that they would probably feel the pain more acutely :(

I do not watch IACGMOOH because of this.
It makes my blood boil.
They wouldn't make them rip the head of a kitten and eat it or pour a load of hamsters out of a chute onto them so why is it ok to torture and hurt insects and reptiles (or rats or whatever animals they use) for viewing pleasure? Makes me sick.
