It is a movie I have always tried to avoid as it psychologically terrifies me. The slow descent into insanity of Jack Nicholson's character.

I shouldn't be this scared should I?

I am going to watch and conquer my fear.

Which movie terrifies you?

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 09:13

Doesn't sound mad at all, sounds right up my street as no way were the moon landings real!! Oooooo must see it!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 25/10/2012 09:21

I'm all freaked out from just reading this thread! Shock
This and listening to a spooky audiobook about a bunch of people trapped on the Flannan Island lighthouse with something spooky that keeps making weird noises and was responsible for the disappearance of three keepers on 1901! That bit is actually true and it's scaring the bejesus out of me! I had to go out in the fog after dark yesterday to do the ponies!i nearly shit a brick!
I'm really not good with horror!

FeckOffCup · 25/10/2012 09:30

If you've not seen The Mist yet you should see it, it's based on another Stephen King story and is very creepy and atmospheric.

TobyLerone · 25/10/2012 09:33

The Shining is the only film which has ever properly scared me.

PrincessSymbian · 25/10/2012 09:44

I never found the film version of the shining as good as the book in any way shape form.
Has anyone seem A Tale of Two Sisters? very messed up Korean horror!

PrincessSymbian · 25/10/2012 09:44

Seen!

KenLeeeeeee · 25/10/2012 09:54

I've watched The Shining a couple of times, but always in stages, never actually managed to sit and watch it from start to end.

I have read it though, and that scared me shitless. Once I got into it, I would sit with a rolling pin at my side... just in case... Blush DH offered to put the book away in the freezer for me so it couldn't come and get me.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 25/10/2012 10:05

What about "It"? That scared me shitless throughout the entire mini series, days if terror! Then the ending was totally SHIT!

The Shining didn't really scare me, I liked it and some parts are a bit creepy but not really scary. The Ring, Shutter (Japanese version), The Grudge, Insidious, Gothika, Paranormal Activity all scared the absolute crap out of me. I still wanna see PA4 though!

SonOfAradia · 25/10/2012 14:02

no way were the moon landings real!

Shock YABVVVU

SonOfAradia · 25/10/2012 14:07

Actually valiumredhead there's an excellent documentary called 'Dark Side of The Moon' where Kubrick's wife is interviewed and she says quite openly that Kubrick was involved in faking the Apollo 11 landing.

As you watch, though, it's becomes clear that the whole thing is a pisstake of moon hoax believers.

FlobbadobbaBOO · 25/10/2012 14:14

Watch the Simpsons Halloween episode The Shinning. That should cure you of being scared. Tis hilarious...

mintyneb · 25/10/2012 15:21

I've never dared watched the Shining but a few years back I stayed in the hotel that inspired Stephen King to write the book (The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park). It's a beautiful hotel in stunning scenery but there was definitely something wierd about the place with its long, long corridors...

We stayed there 2 nights but I couldn't sleep a wink the first night for some unknown reason and I only managed to sleep the next night after moving the bed to a different part of the room!!!

That was scary enough for me!

SugariceAndScary · 25/10/2012 15:34

In last month's Empire they did a spread on Room 237.

It was a great read and I've not seen the film, it made me tempted to though.

I turned The Shining on last night but was too tired to watch much of it. I saw the bit where Danny's mum had said Danny said he'd been attacked in Rm 237 so Nicholson went there and started snogging some woman who turned into a rotting corpse. Wasn't scared, watched another 10 minutes and fell asleep.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/10/2012 16:56

I couldn't watch Paranormal Activity all the way through.

Has anyone seen Cabin In The Woods - looks good from the clip I saw. I'm thinking of renting it next week.
