It is a movie I have always tried to avoid as it psychologically terrifies me. The slow descent into insanity of Jack Nicholson's character.

I shouldn't be this scared should I?

I am going to watch and conquer my fear.

Which movie terrifies you?

The Shining is probably the best horror movie ever. So creepy - REDRUM freaks me out!

For me though, the scariest horror collection is The Saw movies. I quite enjoyed Saw 1, managed Saw 2 and then had an horrific nightmare after Saw 3. I dreamed that I woke up, sat up in bed and saw Jigsaw standing in my bedroom door watching me. Then I actually woke up moments later, and of course he wasn't there, but it had been so realistic I believed he had just hidden better. I couldn't sleep for about three months without pills, I was that scared, so no more Saw movies for me.

I have watched the Shinning.

I haven't been able to watch Saw. Ex watched one or two at home and I could barely take little peaks. Just awful.

But I'm the type of person who has a hard time through Aliens. [hhmm]

SoleSource · 25/10/2012 00:18

Saw is gory.

Lol, shouting at the film, yup that is the proof of a horror!

No, that would be hiding behind the sofa (StarTrek when I was 6/7), or behind my hands. [hblush]

Or jumping in the seat.

StuntGirl · 25/10/2012 00:20

I watched a brilliant video on You Tube about Kubrick's use of spacial awareness in the film. Brilliant stuff.

Ullena · 25/10/2012 00:25

I can't watch the shining. I'm reading this thread through my fingers! The worst part for me is when the bushes are creeping up! Oooooh I've scared myself just thinking about it!

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 08:29

I can only just about watch The Shining in the middle of a sunny afternoon NEVER at night! And the book is worse imo!

fluffyraggies · 25/10/2012 08:39

Oh oh! Yes, Shining's great! Love SK.

YES horrors are a bit samey these days but we watched a film a few weeks ago - bugger i cant think what it's called - about a young film crew going into some tunnels under a city. Blair Witch style. BLOODY SCAREY!

What was it called anyone please? There was a big bell down there in the in one of the rooms, and the sound guy kept picking up something snuffling about in the pitch dark at the beginning .......

mignonette · 25/10/2012 08:48

Go see Room 237- a documentary about the hidden meanings in The Shining-lots of juicy conspiracy theories and Kubricks 'role' in them...

mignonette · 25/10/2012 08:49

Insidious terrified me.

SugariceAndScary · 25/10/2012 08:54

I cannot watch scary films at all. [hblush]

I'm the original scaredy cat and imagine all sorts, talk about a vivid imagination!!. I used to be scared waiting for the Incredible Hulk to go green and wouldn't go upstairs afterwards.

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 08:55

mig that sounds interesting!

MikeLitorisBites · 25/10/2012 08:58

I found reading the shining scary enough. Can't imagine actually watching it.

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 08:59

The film is less scry than the book imo apart from old lady in the bath

3monkeys3 · 25/10/2012 09:02

I gave up scary films after I saw The Ring - it freaked me out so much I couldn't stay in my house by myself for weeks! I think it was because it totally surprised me - I thought it was over, thought 'that was quite creepy' and then WHAM - arghhhhhhhhhhh!

SugariceAndScary · 25/10/2012 09:03

Anyone watched Don't Look Now with Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie?

Again I had to leave the room, I couldn't bear the tension.

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 09:07

Yep! Apparently the really did have sex in that film and it was just filmed Shock

mignonette · 25/10/2012 09:12

Valium

One theory is that 'The Shining' is Kubricks 'confession' at being involved in the faking of the moon landings! Sounds mad, I know but it's a great documentary.
