standing in a car parking space

Hi all, i was a member here ages and ages ago and haven't got a clue what my details were so had to join again. Just wanted a rant and a bit of tlc and some input really.
Anyway, we were out today. Had to pop into boots and tesco for some last minute urgent stuff, nappies, milk, etc. The car park was pretty full and then a space suddenly became available. So, I got out of the car and stood there whilst my sister tried to reverse in. A car was righ behind her so she had to wait for him to reverse too. All the while Im stood there. Then before she has a chance to reverse in, the driver from the other side drives straight in, knowing full well that I'm stood there and just continues driving into me. Edging forward even though I'm there. I stood in shock and was shoved a lttle but he still continued until I was out of the way. Now, I'm asian and he was a white guy with his mrs - probably middle aged. He just got out of the car and went to the shop. His mrs just sat there and then piped up 'well you can't really stand there in a spot'. I said my sister's right behind you.
I think I was in shock more than anything, the mood I'm in now I could've battered him. Argghhhh! Now, I bet that he would't have done that if it was a strapping 6 foot guy.
I don't know bt U feel really upset. I've never really experienced racism before. Never really. And then this. And honestly, I started to think 'all white people are the same', until i pulled myself together and started to rationalise it. Still upset by it and bloody annoyed wth myself for not having caused a scene there and then or called the police. After all, driving into someone and actually pushing me.
What would you have done? Think?

KenandDeirdre · 21/10/2012 19:06

Yes I'm afraid so! That could be a whole other thread - AIBU to leave my laptop lying around without logging out of Mumsnet?

DesperatelySeekingPerfection · 21/10/2012 19:07

I thought it summed up the post perfectly ken

beingbooyhoo I would give it up. You have tried but I fear there is no getting through to the OP!

KenandDeirdre · 21/10/2012 19:12

Lol! Thanks Desperately! You've cheered me up - was so cross when I saw it. Had to spend the last 15 minutes trying to explain to DS the seriousness of his offence Angry

BeingBooyhoo · 21/10/2012 19:13

ah ken i was referring to the "poo ;)" post. i thought it was you indicating that OP was the poo tr*ll. that's why i was asking 'really' as i couldn't see any poo theme. Blush

lovelyladuree · 21/10/2012 19:16

I think you should surprise your sister with a gift voucher for driving lessons.

KenandDeirdre · 21/10/2012 19:19

No probs BeingBooyhoo! Sorry for the confusion!

beitou · 21/10/2012 19:21

Or maybe a membership card for the BNP.

GhostShip · 21/10/2012 19:22

Pleb.

bumhead · 21/10/2012 19:25

2/10 OP, but can I ask people why they bother reversing into a space?
Just drive in and reverse out!

McHappyPants2012 · 21/10/2012 19:28

I reverse in, don't know why just allows have

CherylWillBounceBack · 21/10/2012 19:29

Op I too believe you are a terrible wind up merchant. I cannot believe anyone couldn't spot the sarcasm from the poster who claimed they hated everyone tenuously linked to someone who had done them wrong.

But if you are genuine, then you are causing problems for everyone who suffers genuine discrimination with your victim attitude. People don't take genuine discrimination seriously because of it. Go read the boy who cried wolf again.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/10/2012 19:29

Doesn't sound racist. He shouldn't have done it, people are allowed to reverse into parking spaces. Having someone guide you into the space is irrelevant. If it had happened to me without someone been in the space I'd have rather snootily pointed out I'd been reversing in and he'd barged in.

If I'd been in the position of been in the space like the op I'd have banged like hell on the bonnet and told him to bog off. If he'd continued driving into me I'd have phoned the police.

BeingBooyhoo · 21/10/2012 19:30

i reverse in because it's safer when coming out again to drive out. you can see far better what you are driving towards and are less likely to hit a child or abandoned trolley etc.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/10/2012 19:31

If you reverse out and hit someone it's the reversing cars fault. You're much more likely to hit another car reversing out of a space than into one so it's much safer.

I used to work for a company where you had to reverse into spaces in the staff car par. Repeated offences of going in nose first was a disciplinary issue.

CherylWillBounceBack · 21/10/2012 19:31

Bumhead, some people like me reverse in because, as sad as it sounds, you save a bit of petrol. if you reverse in when the engine is warm, and then drive straight out when cold, its more efficient. Also I moonlight as a getaway driver, and quick exits are the name of the game.

Shutupanddrive · 21/10/2012 19:34

YABU
And racist and a bit dim
Love the NN bumhead Smile

BeingBooyhoo · 21/10/2012 19:34

Grin @ cheryl

apostropheuse · 21/10/2012 19:43

Anyone whose initial reaction to this type of situation is that it happened because of the colour of the perpretrator's skin - and that all people of that skin colour were bad - is inherently racist. It's a spontaneous reaction, so cannot be covered up.

A person can deny they're racist until the cows come home, but just because the person says something repeatedly doesn't make it true.

I cannot - and do not - believe that any decent person would automatically jump to that conclusion - no matter how little time it took them to realise their error.

It just astonishes me that the OP cannot see the irony in some of the posts.

Beggars belief.

Fairylea · 21/10/2012 19:49

It would never ever have occurred to me that the guy was being racist.

Just that he was an arse.

IneedAsockamnesty · 21/10/2012 19:50

in always reverse in, and i dont see any issue with getting someone to guide you in, loads of people do it inc my mother when shes driving my much bigger car.

the race card yep ywbu but you know that.

but as to the other as long as you were just guiding her in then yanbu its not really ok to drive into people.

HeinousHecate · 21/10/2012 19:57

It's easier to reverse in to a space, because you can see all round you. If you reverse out, you have big blind spots.

It's safer to reverse in than out.

bumhead · 21/10/2012 20:07

Cheryl I have learned from your post and will brush up my parking skills in the pursuit of economy Grin

Shutupanddrive thank you. Bizarrely it is the name DH calls me tho I have no idea why. Perhaps my head resembles buttocks or something, I daren't ask Confused

Softlysoftly · 21/10/2012 20:41

Brilliant! DH hangs around in mosques so therefore is a race card player?!

Lol op has managed to offend whites, blacks and Muslims in one thread about a parking space.

Pure genius Grin
