LST not everyone wants to see this, is that so unusual?

Sparklingbrook · 21/10/2012 10:45

How does dog-led weaning work?

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:45

How old do you rhink the dog is? It's OK as long as it's under one doggy year.

RikersBeard · 21/10/2012 10:46

I felt a little icky when my cat licked up some ebm off the floor
But that is worse

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:46

ArseWiper, which cultures breastfeed animals?

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:46

and I assume you're talking about mammals rather than stick insects o

SanctuaryMoon · 21/10/2012 10:47

I am annoyed that this kind of nonsense story will put people off breastfeeding by association. But is it wrong? I don't know. I find it incredibly bizarre.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:47

Rikers, really? I'd rather give ebm to the dog (if we had one) than waste it. I've been known to give it to DH before when it's been too worrying to give to a DC.

LST · 21/10/2012 10:48

There are worse things to see. The dog that had been stabbed god knows how many times. That was a link I wish I hadn't opened. This is just funny.

ScaryBeardyDeadyman · 21/10/2012 10:49

A question for everyone who's ok with this;

How would you feel if you saw a human baby suckling from a dog?

OP posts:
SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:49

Sanctuary, surely not. This is more about this woman's odd relationship with her animals than breastfeeding. I think there are people who let their dogs sit up around the table for Sunday lunch, with a napkin tucked into their collar, a china plate and full dinner. It won't put people off cooking a Snday roast :o

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:50

Not happy SBD
Not happy at all
Don;t see any parallel with this though

RikersBeard · 21/10/2012 10:50

DH has tried it, no problem there.
I know, I said it was illogical. It's only milk.

ledkr · 21/10/2012 10:50

What age is the dog? I'd say its ok if under one Grin

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:50

one dog year
so about 2 months

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:51

was it the inter species thing Riker??

squeakytoy · 21/10/2012 10:51

I agree LST, that was a horrific article and the pictures were so unnecessary and there should have been a warning.

Seeing a dog being breastfed certainly doesnt register on my scale of feeling sickened.

Shriiieeek you are probably right. Mmm, roast.

SamSmalaidh · 21/10/2012 10:52

The Awa in Brazil breastfeed monkeys. Apparently puppies were often used to remove milk from women's breasts under medical supervision here too pre-19th century. There are definitely other tribal people who suckle animals too.

To be honest, although I personally would not want to breastfeed a dog it's not that outrageous and disgusting - no one is getting hurt.

TheDeathAndGlories · 21/10/2012 10:52

I would happily give my bm to another animal that needed it. I know how magical the stuff is but I wouldnt feed it directly myself.
I have a german shepherd though so just imagining it is hard to do

ledkr · 21/10/2012 10:52

I wonder if he'd prefer pedigree chum though

Sparklingbrook · 21/10/2012 10:53

I don't know how the dog would latch on correctly without a bottom lip and get any sort of suction.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 21/10/2012 10:54

thanks sam, never heard of that.
Anyone do stick insects??

MrsDV I agree. That puppy will be bullied at puppy school.

This thread has reminded me of when I was bf DD and DH was reading a book with DS about animals. He started to explain that mammals were, and listed a few, ending with "We're mammals, me, you, mummy, ". At which point DD broke off and said "I am not a mammal!"
