Just seen an advert for (I think) Hello magazine. Kerry is now cashing in on other peoples misery with her story that Jimmy Savile once "perved" over her. Nice.

I know I'm not bu but this has made me very cross. Who buys this shit?

It's her regular column.... She's paid for her few inches regardless of what she fills them with!!

It's not a special piece!

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 21:56

Well...I must admit I haven't seen the article. But nobody who has any first hand opinion of what he was like should be accused of publicity seeking.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/10/2012 22:01

I know its her regular column!

It being her regular column doesn't take away from the fact that she's being paid. It's distasteful and damaging. Have you really not heard people saying that the victims are publicity seekers? Really? Don't you think that talking about this is a celebrity gossip magazine undermines them?

Some of these people have fought for years to get taken seriously. The article moves it away from a serious issue into the realms of sleb gossip. I think its too important to become a titilating page filler.

She's paid for her few inches regardless of what she fills them with!!

It's not a special piece!

It is a headline on the front cover of the magazine and on the telly advert it's advertised as JS perved on me with her face next to the headline, she should just shush or maybe sympathise with these people that it happened to and not try and 'relate' to them and make it about her,

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 22:07

I don't see why it is damaging. Inappropriate behaviour is disgusting whether it's towards a 14 year old or a 40 year old.

I feel sorry for Kerry - there is no real reason for her to receive the hatred she does. Why don't you reserve that for people like Savile?

Mrsjay · 19/10/2012 22:09

I met JS in the 70s in a hospital I didn't like him he was very loud and in your face maybe i should go to the papers like kerry , people can't start saying oh he looked at me funny or he may have brushed past me in a weird way , it takes it away from his victims and makes them look as if they are cashing in (does that make sense ? )

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 22:09

To look at it another way, she is a well known person saying 'yeah come to think of it his behaviour seemed bad to me'. That supports what his victims are saying - it doesn't diminish it.

Chubfuddler · 19/10/2012 22:11

Really, are you so limited that you cannot conceive of someone holding the likes of KK/Jordan or whoever in contempt whilst simultaneously being repulsed by what saville did? Do you really think people are incapable of holding more than one opinion at a time?

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 22:15

No Chubfuddler I am not 'limited'. But you are very rude just because not everyone agrees with your opinion.

OK magazine is a celebrity magazine - it's not a newspaper. People who read it want to hear about what celebs think.

Why would you hold Kerry Katona or Jordan 'in contempt'? They are not bad people. You just don't like them.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/10/2012 22:16

I don't hate her, I haven't said that. And I am capable of being disgusted by JS and appalled by KK at the same time.

If she wanted to add her experience she could have done it in a way that was sympathetic and supportive of the victims. She is sensationalising it.

OP posts:
Chubfuddler · 19/10/2012 22:18

I'm not rude. You are attempting to shut down an avenue if discussion by saying we shouldn't be discussing this, we should be reviling JS. As if we can't do both.

I can hold them in contempt if I want. I think their behaviour and proffering up of their every thought/deed/relationship to tabloid fodder is contemptible. It's not an anti woman thing, I think the same if Peter Andre.

thebody · 19/10/2012 22:19

If you read a column 'written'by Kerry katona then you need more in your life.

She's terminally boring and frankly ridiculous.

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 22:22

I don't see how I am shutting down any discussion - I am simply giving my opinion which differs from yours.

They are tabloid fodder because some people want to read about them and are interested in them - that isn't their fault either.

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 22:23

I do not read OK magazine, nor do I read 'newspapers' like The Daily Mail. But some people do - quite a lot or it wouldn't be a success

Kleptronic · 19/10/2012 22:32

Anyone can hold anyone in contempt, and anyone can write anything they want and be paid for it, if someone is willing to pay. Personally I don't understand why she inspires such a vituperative reaction. Or why she is attributed the power to undermine accusations of sexual assault and/or rape. However, I would defend anyone's right to hold such views. I just wouldn't understand why they hold them.

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 22:40

I agree Kleptronic. I was not saying that people are not allowed an opinion.

But that I don't understand why people like Kerry Katona inspire such vitriol for being 'tabloid fodder' when they are only that because some people do want to hear what they have to say and know what goes on in their lives.

This says it best, really...

thebody · 19/10/2012 22:56

Well I think the way she takes drugs, careers from one awful relationship to another, talks about her sex life etc etc yawn yawn would be forgivable except for the fact that there are 4 kids in this mix.

Ditto Peter ' I love my kids' Andre and Botox trout pout Jordan.

Couldn't give a crap about them but feel sorry for the kids and if they were living on an estate in inner city kids may well be on an at risk register.

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 23:02

KK has bipolar disorder - which may account for her rather unusual lifestyle. It's very easy to judge isn't it and yet on MN we are always saying that mental health problems shouldn't be stigmatised.

I am in no way a fan of hers by the way.

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 23:05

Well the way I read it she's just saying 'I'm not surprised'. My mum who has a friend who worked with him sad the same.

She was not saying she was traumatised or trying to undermine what the victims of his awful behaviour said - I don't get that at all Hmm

thebody · 19/10/2012 23:10

My close mate is bipolar, she's a fantastic mother and she takes medication.

Never sure with 'celebs' though if its true or just publicity. We only know she's bipolar because she says so.. They all talk crap to get attention.

Not saying she isn't but its not proved she has is it?

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 23:23

Why the hell should she have to prove it?? It's well known she has it. I have bipolar too - perhaps I'm lying? There have been times where my life spiralled out of control. Now thankfully, I consider myself recovered.

A lot of people with bipolar don't like taking medication. Not taking it is a symptom of the illness in fact.

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 23:28

And a lot of showbiz people tend to have it because it lends itself to an irratic lifestyle, coupled with the fact that manic people are interesting and entertaining. Nobody accuses Stephen Fry of lying about his do they?

noddyholder · 19/10/2012 23:28

She claims she is cured. She will frankly say anything together her sad life in the papers

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 23:32

Well bipolar disorder is reasonably common - I personally feel it is probably under diagnosed. The same goes for post natal depression and people like Melinda Messenger have spoken about their experience of that.
