Just seen an advert for (I think) Hello magazine. Kerry is now cashing in on other peoples misery with her story that Jimmy Savile once "perved" over her. Nice.

I know I'm not bu but this has made me very cross. Who buys this shit?

YANBU!

JustFabulous · 19/10/2012 20:02

It is ver simple.

Some people you come across will give you the creeps. A reminder of someone you don't have pleasant memories of, maybe they are dressed as a vampire, etc etc.

Some people will make you feel like they are perving on you. They look at you in a way that gives you the real shivers like they might attack you in a phsycally abusive way, or that they are seeing you as ana object.

I know I am not explaining myself very well.

Chubfuddler · 19/10/2012 20:04

I'd be interested to hear her justification for her "phwoar get em off" perving over David Beckham in the latest column on ok online. Why is that acceptable?

Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2012 20:05

I did notice that. Perving over someone else's husband in writing. Confused

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/10/2012 20:06

For me it's not about what she's saying, but about how. I do think it probably happened, that he looked at her in a certain way. But to put herself into the middle of this story by being on the front cover of a sleb magazine looking pained, under a jokey story about VB being exposed to, is very damaging to those fighting to have their story heard.

Every day you hear people accusing the victims of doing it for money or publicity, with other people saying that that is absolutely not the case. Her doing this story completely undermines those who are saying its not about money and publicity. If she felt it was important to come forward and share her story she could have done it without it being in a gossip mag.

Exactly englishgirl. This is what I'm trying to say.

RinderThrillerNight · 19/10/2012 20:12

It's obviously not that simple then Fab Grin

I do sort of get what you mean, but I see what she has written as being no more than perhaps a more articulate writer saying she had met him, and had an innate feeling about him. She used the language she's familiar with, 'perv', and it more or less conveys the same message.

I really don't know why I am arguing on an internet forum about KK. I know next to nothing about her, have no wish to be her saviour or anything else. I just saw this thread, some of the responses, and thought they were a little unkind.

JustFabulous · 19/10/2012 20:15

I can't be objective about sexual abuse so should never read/post on them.

RinderThrillerNight · 19/10/2012 20:17

englishgirl, I think your comment is very relevant. But KK's comment in her column is going to be subject to the editors at OK! And that stinks of some pretty awful editoral decisions, which considering it's a Richard Desmond publication, is hardly surprising.

Witchety · 19/10/2012 20:17

Lol...cos Beckham posing in his underwear is clearly put there not to be peeved at isn't he!?! Hmm

RinderThrillerNight · 19/10/2012 20:18

Which again strikes me as the abuse of a vulnerable female by a more powerful man.

Witchety · 19/10/2012 20:18

Or peRved even!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/10/2012 20:19

rinder I completely agree. KK is to blame but so is the magazine editor, the publishers and her own publicist. This story just can't become gossip magazine fodder - its too important.

OP posts:
Witchety · 19/10/2012 20:20

Did she even ask her magazine to put herself on the front cover???

Chubfuddler · 19/10/2012 20:20

Lets examine some of atomic kittens outfits shall we? And no I am not victim blaming. It's just lurching from one to the other shows a stunning lack of self knowledge on her part.

Chubfuddler · 19/10/2012 20:22

I would imagine she would have an absolute fit if she wasn't on the front cover. The entire intention of a piece like this is to associate herself with a major news story - these column filler types do this all the bloody time.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/10/2012 20:26

wichety she has been in the public eye for long enough to know that this sort of story would get her on the cover.

Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2012 20:27

Classy

wannaBe · 19/10/2012 20:50

she's jumping on a bandwagon. So maybe he perved at her. Thing is, she was a pop star, I imagine he wasn't the only one, yet he's the only one who warrants a timely mention on the front of hello magazine. Hmm

PropertyNightmare · 19/10/2012 20:56

It seems rather crass of her to make money from these claims. If however she is donating the proceeds of the interview to a children's charity then I'm not so judgy about it.

SamuelWestsMistress · 19/10/2012 21:24

To be honest I would have feared for Jimmy Savile being in the same room as her!

perceptionreality · 19/10/2012 21:27

I remember John Leslie being really creepy over her on This Morning. I expect when she was in Atomic Kitten she did have a lot of unwanted attention.

YABU - why shouldn't she add her experience of what he's like??

Witchety · 19/10/2012 21:46

Ugh, John Leslie too? Poor Kerry...

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/10/2012 21:50

Because there's a huge difference between adding her experience and being paid for an article talking about a 'pervy look' - particularly when the victims are being accused of publicity seeking and after money. It's damaging to their case.
