Does anybody here on MN believe their daily horoscope?

I used to be fascinated by it as a teenager.

Just came across a Diana Garland video on Youtube. She is an Astrologist. My September predictions for Aries was utter poppycock.

Kelly

Tarot

Past

The Star - Normal position

The time when you have positive expectations and realise it in your success. A bright hope or future expectations is natural.

Present

The Tower - Reverse position

The time when you succeed by challenging again, learning a lesson, from failure in the past. You will be released from something for a fresh start.

Future

The Moon - Normal position

The time when you will remove all anxiety from within and remain calm.

Does anyone here relate to this message?:

^"My child, you have been so worried and confused at times. You have felt so deeply troubled and alone with your thoughts. You have been through painful times that have exhausted you but you now feel wiser.

You now feel more confident about many different aspects. You have a growing sense of self acceptance. You are learning to value what is important and walk away from situations that are negative. Be strong and courageous as you continue to learn and honour your new awareness.

Be confident in revealing the real you with the people you cherish. This is your calling. To be genuine and love the people that have been brought into your life to know you."^

Russell Grant many years ago was picked up on a horoscope that was exactly identical to the previous year, I even think it was the same magazine.

YANBU
Astrology is twaddle

janelikesjam · 25/10/2012 23:45

What star sign are you Grin.

Seriously, Diana Garland is awful.

But astrology can be rather enjoyable and useful IMO. My pub party game when I was younger was guessing people's signs and I was often right if my memory serves me right!.

One of my uncles believes in astrology because he thinks that the time of year you are born in can affect your personality because of the temperature outside when you are a tiny baby.

there are some genuine effects of when in the year you're born, statistically - lots of complicated factors to do with day length, etc etc. But these have nothing to do with the stars and planets, and of course will not apply in the tropics and presumably are inverted in the southern hemisphere.

Hi crikey - yes, look everyone is going to pop their clogs some day - we all like to think it's ages away, not today, or tonight - but one day it will be today, or tonight. Some palmists say that there will be a 'journey', or a sudden change - to me saying 'journey' is misleading. Death is death, and it's endemic - the rate hasn't changed, it's still 100%.

I'm kindof long in the tooth and have read palms for about 30 years now - my grandad in India taught my dad and he taught me.

I don't mince my words, if someone wants to know whether they'll die sooner or later, I'll tell them. That way they have a chance to get rid of their stuff, get a bit of order into their affairs (as they say) and make a will, so that there is none of that awful fighting over things, and bad feeling after they die.
It's important that your survivors aren't cursing you for not leaving them the silver spoons. Karmic-ally it's important to break attachment to material things, and what better way to do this than by gifting things when you're still alive.
I just give people a signpost if I can.

I hope you don't still think that's 'sick, disgusting & unjustified'?

SoleSource · 26/10/2012 00:13

Palmistry is twaddle too. How can lines on palms fortell the future?

A friend once put forward a theory which could have explained why astrology might have appeared to work in the past - at least as far as personality went, not predicting the future.

Before food was so readily available all year round, the pregnant mother's diet would have been completely determined by where she lived and what was in season/storable there. The diet would affect the foetus throughout the pregnancy, and the diet would vary throughout the year; children born at the same point of the year's mothers would have had a very similar diet.

So it wasn't actually the stars, it was the maternal diet. But the stars changed with the seasons, same as the diet, so that's why people thought it must be the stars affecting people.

He was quite upset when he realised he'd actually put forward a theory that supported belief in astrology (historically anyway, if not now) as he was trying to explain why he thought astrology was guff.

Probably the biggest influence of your birthday will be whether you are the oldest or youngest in your school year. Older children tend to be selected less for sports teams, and this early difference has spreading repercussions as they grow older. I think there are academic influences too.
