Does anybody here on MN believe their daily horoscope?

I used to be fascinated by it as a teenager.

Just came across a Diana Garland video on Youtube. She is an Astrologist. My September predictions for Aries was utter poppycock.

Three of my friends had baby's in Bangkok. All of their Thai birth certs show the time of birth, which planet is ascendent, their chinese animal corresponding to their birth year, whether it was wet or dry outside, what color pants the deliverer was wearing.
Two or three of these may be made up. The point is, all were born in the same year, two within two days of each other and their personalities are remarkably different.
Total load of eyewash IMO.

kaumana · 17/10/2012 02:05

I started a long..response but as a Saggy , we don't do that so.

VenusRising · 19/10/2012 01:16

Sorry I was off-line for those who want a three card quickie - unforeseen circs... badoom toosh. PM me if you want.

Yes, I would tell someone if they wanted to know if they'd pop their clogs "earlier" than they thought they would. Obviously I'd tell them in a way I didn't scare them half to death.
It's useful knowledge: get your stuff in order - make a will, gift your personal stuffs. You don't see it often tbh, but I've seen it enough now to be sure and not to be shocked when I hear about someone's death - it's just a matter of time with us all anyway, but accidents and suicide look very different.

Unfortunately the bookies don't take those kind of bets any-more! Wink

I read everybody's palms / hands if I can see them at all. I ask older people about their lives and cross reference what I know about their lives with what I can see in their hands - so I'm getting good at spotting diseases, and careers, children, travel and love lives too. No wonder the Queen wears gloves

SoleSource · 19/10/2012 01:22

Hi Venus Can you do me a three card quickie please? :)

I used to write horoscopes for the newspaper I worked at! It was so much fun. I used to spend hours dreaming up secret codes for friends who read the paper.

CrikeyOHare · 19/10/2012 16:14

Yes, I would tell someone if they wanted to know if they'd pop their clogs "earlier" than they thought they would.

Then I think your actions are completely disgusting & unjustified. And I really don't know how you dare to admit it so freely.

Can you prove any of this total codswallop? Nope. And if you're going to claim that you've been right loads of times, blah blah - then I don't believe you.

If you think that's OK, then I think you're sick.

Tellling people they're going to die? Fucking hell.

Latara · 19/10/2012 16:19

Star signs. Yes, utter bollocks IMO. YANBU.

CoteDAzur · 19/10/2012 16:24

YANBU. It is complete and utter rubbish.

CoteDAzur · 19/10/2012 16:25

"if it makes people happy to believe in it, then what's the problem? "

The problem is that it's a con.

MadamFollywillFreakyouout · 19/10/2012 18:19

One of my uncles believes in astrology because he thinks that the time of year you are born in can affect your personality because of the temperature outside when you are a tiny baby.

MadamFollywillFreakyouout · 19/10/2012 18:19

He is mad btw

Overreactionoftheweek · 19/10/2012 18:50

I read somewhere that Leos love astrology because they love reading about themselves - I am a Leo and I do find it quite fun Grin

I also have an awesome mane of hair so it must be true Wink

AntoinetteCosway · 19/10/2012 19:16

Overreaction me too on both counts!

edam · 20/10/2012 19:12

The one person at work who is hugely into Astrology is a Cancerian. I think she likes astrology because it gives her an excuse to be moody, though. Grin

CoteDAzur · 23/10/2012 11:15

I have an awesome mane of hair, as well, and I am Taurus.

The only reason why DS has his star sign is because the hospital wouldn't schedule an elCS on the 4 days of F1 Grand Prix that followed his birth. (Apparently they need to keep surgeries available, in case drivers manage to wrap themselves around trees en masse Hmm)

KellyElly · 23/10/2012 11:27

I don't read horoscopes but I definitely think there?s something in the character traits of each star sign.

letsgoflyakite · 24/10/2012 11:17

Although I personally think horoscopes are a pile of poo, someone said this to me once and it made me think:

The moon has a huge effect on the sea and tide. Our bodies are 80% water, so surely there must be some effect?

I've never really properly thought about it but it's an interesting thought.

MonkeyRisotto · 24/10/2012 11:33

The moon has the same pull on the land as it does on the sea, it's just because the sea is liquid, and can move, that you can see the effect.

It's all utter bollocks.

ZZZenAgain · 24/10/2012 11:38

I don't believe those daily/yearly horoscopes unless they are very , very favourable, in which case of course I believe them. I don't think it is possible for the alignment of stars to influence our future.

The thing is though that I can very often recognise types and guess people's sign correctly. A lot of my friends have always been aquarius and I just know an aquarius when I see one. There are a few different sub-types but I find you can tell. Another one I can usually guess is libra - mostly I think because I never seem to get on with them so I have become adept at recognising them now. How can you guess someone's sign correctly if there is nothing in that?

CoteDAzur · 24/10/2012 13:13

I'm sure that you make many mistakes when you try to guess people's star signs, as well, but remember the hits better than the misses. It's called selective perception .

KellyElly · 24/10/2012 14:07

Where's my three card quickie eh eh???? Grin

kaumana · 24/10/2012 22:43

Ooh, please do me. We can do the astronomer vs astrologer...

headinhands · 25/10/2012 18:41

letsgo how would the laws of physics and the fact that we are 80% water be evidence for astrology?

EdsRedeemingQualities · 25/10/2012 18:48

Well I think it's rubbish. But then I start to wonder...why are all the people in my life born around the same time?

Or at least they were until very recently, and I am quite old.

My best friend for 15 years was born on the same day as my first child's father - who I was with for 4 years, and am still close to now (I have very very few long term friends).

My second child's father's birthday was 5 days away from theirs. My oldest and best male friend's birthday is 4 days away from theirs, also.

And my dad's birthday, another ex boyfriend, my very first love, my first ever best friend (from 5 years - still in touch) and actually one more sort-of partner's birthdays are all within 2 weeks of that date - and so is mine.

It's probably just an odd coincidence. But these are mostly people who have had a huge impact on my life, and stayed in it for many years, while I have succeeded in losing a lot of my other friends.

SoleSource · 25/10/2012 18:49

I shall do your tarot Kelly

Brb I am consulting my angels about you, meanwhile, concentrate very hard.
