....link but I don't feel 1 ounce of sympathy for the feckless owner?

There will be, and it is the responsible dog owners that will suffer in the long run.
The laws now are far more strict than they were in the 60s when I was a child, and that trend will continue as long as there are attacks, or fear of attacks on people to fuel it
Yes, I know this instance was dog on dog, but most of us dog dislikers don't feel as strongly about that. It's the threat to us and our families that will spur on harsher laws and more PTS incidents.
A consequence of irresponsible dog lovers and their pets.

ShellyBoobs · 13/10/2012 12:15

Both reports say the woman tried to pretend to be dead, as she thought he would leave 'them' (her and her dog) alone.

He was stabbing the dog, not her. Why would she be dead?

Crazy woman.

The dog should clearly have been killed some time ago. It's just lucky that the other dog owner has made sure it won't be attacking any other innocent people or animals.

differentnameforthis · 13/10/2012 12:24

Stabbing something 32 is not self defense imo, it is a frenzied attack

Not that it is any better, but it was 23 times, not 32. Let's not get carried away with Chinese whispers

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/10/2012 12:28

Maybe it took 23 times before the bulldog let go?

As for the number of knives, maybe he just ran into house in panic and grabbed whatever he could lay his hands on.

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 12:36

Shelleyboobs, the dog should have been kept under proper control in public, theres no doubting that, but had it have injured a dog previously I'm sure someone would have reported it. I am not sure why you think it needed to be killed? It certainly didn't deserve to be stabbed to death due to its owners incompetence.

As for the owner, misguided maybe, but she was obviously trying to protect it and did have the dog in her arms while the man was stabbing it and they were trying to get up against the fence, so presumably the mans terrier was no longer in any danger? I can imagine holding onto your dog while it was being repeatedly stabbed would be terrifying and that you'd feel attacked and not exactly sure what was happening too?

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 12:40

Oh, and the 'terrier' was a staff, so not some tiny, fluffy, unable to protect itself terrier....

You don't want an injured out of control bull type dog getting up and going at you again, tbh.

he didn't run in and get a knife though, he got several

So would i of. Unless you have seen a dog like this attack and kill, you cannot imagine how scary it is.

I have started to carry a choke chain with me when walking my dog, as most of the lads choose male dogs and they back off, when hit in the testicles whilst going for another dog.

There was a spate of dog killing in my area, most now wouldn't dream of letting their children walk their dog, because children have been bitten during the attack.

The lads around my way have them so that they don't have their drugs taken off them by other lads and they know that no-one will 'come through their front door' whilst they have these highly aggressive powerful dogs.

What a weird website choice to post, mindori. Confused

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 12:48

Obviously that wasn't what I intended to post. Smile

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 12:51

Birds, and would you carry in stabbing a dog after it had let go of your dog too?

WofflingOn · 13/10/2012 12:58

It would be interesting to know what the police and local officials had as reports on Tyson, if he had been roaming free and attacking other dogs for a while.

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 13:01

It would be interesting Wofgling, particularly as none of the reports seem to mention the dog being 'reported' in an official capacity, just that pepper had complained about him. There's no doubt his owner acted irresponsibly, that is something thousands of dog owners do every day, but theres also no doubt she loved her dog and I don't think anyone deserves to see their pet stabbed to death, even if it was unavoidable.

Birdsgottafly · 13/10/2012 13:02

Birds, and would you carry in stabbing a dog after it had let go of your dog too?

My friends dog was killed, the owner who always carries a multi-tool on his keyring had stabbed the dog in question.

It then let go and attacked another 'soft' dog, who was being walked by a another dog walker, who my friend was on 'nodding' terms with.

His German Shepherd had run off, but when the soft dog had been bitten badly injured it came back. The vicious dog started to attack that one (both men had been bitten).

My friend had no choice but to stab it until it died.

I have seen the same done with a chain, these dogs don't stop, if they are bred that way. They go into an attack frenzy.

Unless you are there you cannot judge.

WofflingOn · 13/10/2012 13:02

I don't think any creature should die like that, but it was a situation entirely of the owner's making however OTT the response.

Notalone · 13/10/2012 13:05

Its an awful story all round. Is it just me though or in the 2nd picture does it look as though the dog is actually wearing a lead? The report says it isn't but it looks as though it is?

GhostShip · 13/10/2012 13:05

Birds, and would you carry in stabbing a dog after it had let go of your dog too

I think it was probably about disabling the dog so it didn't attack again?

I mean there'd be no point getting the dog off your dog, if it was just going to attack you afterwards

This is such a sad sad story. Poor animals :(

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 13:09

This dog wasn't attacking another dog though, was it?

And no, an 'OTT' response isn't warranted. I could accept someone stabbing a dog to get it off theirs, if that really was the only way. I can't accept someone continuing to stab it while it's owner is clinging to it and trying to get away. Presumably after a few stabs with a ten inch blade and having let go and given the injuries the vet says the dog sustained, it wasn't likely to survive anyway, let almond go back for 'another go' ?!

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 13:10

Let alone....

GhostShip · 13/10/2012 13:11

Oh sorry I thought it was?

If it wasn't attacking anyone then I retract my comment

Birdsgottafly · 13/10/2012 13:17

It doesn't matter f the other dog was a staff.

I had a good natured GS turned because he had been set upon by other dogs, deliberately by their male owners, who wanted to watch a dog fight.

I worry when walking my GS, now, because the lads think it's funny because she isn't a 'figher' and try to wind her up.

It's like lads taking on the biggest man in the pub, it's a status thing.

I love GS's, but mine are pets, i don't want my dog turned by these morons.

WofflingOn · 13/10/2012 13:18

In what way was Tyson not attacking the other dog?

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 13:20

That was in response the bird's comment that her friend had continued to stab a dog after it had let go of his/her own dog, but had then attacked another dog.

You said yourself the man in the article probably continued to stab the dog after it had let go of his dog in order to 'disable it'. How many stand with a ten inch blade do you think it takes to 'disable' a dog, even a large one, in order to prevent it happening again?

WofflingOn · 13/10/2012 13:22

I have no idea how many stabs, never having had to do it. But a lot, I'd have thought.

midori1999 · 13/10/2012 13:22

Stabs, sorry, on my phone with the damn autocorrect thing!

GhostShip · 13/10/2012 13:23

I think it's one of those, you just don't know until it happens. And I would never ever hurt an animal, but if you think it could come back to hurt you and your dog you're going to do what you can to disable it.
