To think if your house is smokier than a victorian city its not 'clean'?

Not about a specific person just things and a 'type' of person I have come across.
I've come across a lot of people who are neat and tidy enough, and bang on about how spotless their houses are but I have to grit my teeth not to point out chain smoking in a house with children with all the windows shut, grotty ashtrays ahoy! is not 'clean' or 'hygienic' or healthy by any stretch of the imagination?.

Never buy a house from a smoker - you'll spend years and a fortune undoing the damage and getting rid of the smell.

I honestly don't know anyone who smokes in their home anymore.

But yes it would still be clean...just smelly.

Having said that, I've never been bothered about how clean/unclean anyone else's house is if it doesn't affect me.

I'm a smoker but don't smoke in the house. It was a revelation when I stopped, no more brown grime coating everything, fresh smelling and half the dust.

I am not against smokers to clarify I am an ex smoker , but I feel a bit dirty smoking indoors it sinks into everything :/.

Even the the little block of studio flats in the next road (I can see the windows from my garden) have various heads and arms hanging out the windows where they're all smoking as outside as they can manage to be

I'm ex now. I didn't smoke in the house at the end, I think it was a lot more 'normal' before the ban.

I don't either. Even in my flat I walked outside.

Dds friends have smokers for parents. They chain smoke in the house. If dd sleeps over she reeks of fags when she comes back. If her friends sleep here then dds bedroom reeks of fags the next day. Awful smell.

I don't know anyone who still smokes indoors either. Also can't remember the last time I saw someone with yellow nicotine-stained fingers. Is smoking finally on the decline?

My sister smokes in the house with DN who is 3, she won't open windows now because it is too cold.
my other sister 'only' smokes in the kitchen but she has no doors so it still travels around the house both of there houses stink constantly, as do their children.

Both of them will tell you again and again that they have spotless homes and take pride in them but they don't notice that everybody's ceilings aren't yellow and most plug sockets aren't either.

They don't 'count' fag butt's as mess and i can only guess no longer notice that a puff comes out of the front door as they open them

DD feels very sorry for not wanting to sit next to a chid who's jumper stinks from his mothers smoke.

I feel really sorry for him, I must of stank too, but no one would have noticed.

I bought a house from a smoker. Had to strip out all the carpets, even take out the sealant round the windows it was stained yellow! How can that be classed as clean?

We're house hunting at the moment and I looked at a smokers house. You couldn't get me out of there fast enough.

DH and I used to smoke in bed, in the bath everywhere! Have up when Dsis said we wouldn't be allowed DN to play if we still did it. I am very very glad she did, our future homes have all been far more pleasant and I have quit completely. Just wish DH would stop now!

My grandma smoked in the house. When they became elderly and no longer able to clean, I noticed when I first cleaned that there was a film on everything. A yellow, sticky film that had discoloured the ornaments.

My mum and dad's house used to have a yellow/brown stained ceiling.

Yes- one of my work colleagues smokes (outside obviously) and I'm sure she thinks the mints she eats afterwards covers up the smell. I guess smokers don't get that the smell lingers on their clothes and breath. My grandad was a smoker and I also remember that film of yellow and the fug in an otherwise pleasant house

My husband smokes, in his office in our house, out of the bathroom window and in the garden in front of the kids. I have issued my first ultimatum about anything in our marriage - it has to stop. No smoking indoors, no smoking in front of the kids. Or we leave. And I bloody well mean it.

This 'not smoking in front of children' must be old fashioned its not something I've ever come across.

but the indoors thing certainly, I don't kids seeing me smoke outside etc.

My aunt thinks her flat is clean and she only smokes in the kitchen with a window open; I can't bear to visit because I come away stinking and need to wash all my clothes and hair. Goodness knows what her sofa and mattresses are like.
