Pagwatch · 05/10/2012 13:01

I really don't want a pm. I don't really care what you say now.

I have spent far too long on this nonsense.

Hullygully · 05/10/2012 13:01

have you had one....?

amillionyears · 05/10/2012 13:01

Mintyy,I think that is where a lot of the confusion lies.
There are some of the larkers who often and regularly mention about those things.
No,Pagwatch doesnt,no MaryZed doesnt,no you appear not to,but yes to lots of the others.

Hullygully · 05/10/2012 13:02

Mad it is

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 13:02

Can I just dispel a myth about 'piling in' please?

When a thread is very active, it appears in the Most Active window. Many people (I include myself) use Most Active to check out what threads are popular right now, and if the thread interests us we will get involved. Some people are also on MN more than others, or in certain sections more than others, hence they will quite often be the people to rock up early to a thread and recognise people they've interacted with before.

I suspect that people who don't use MN in the same way think that there's some kind of weird alert system going off to call 'friends' to threads. There isn't, really. It's just we all use MN differently.

TheVermiciousKnid · 05/10/2012 13:02

There is no exclusive 'larkers club', anybody can join in. There are no 'come-to-this-thread-and-lark-about' PMs or FB messages sent out - people just see a thread and join in! Nothing more sinister than that. Some of the 'larkers' have met up at MN meet-ups, but so have many others! Again, the meet-ups aren't exclusive, you can join in!

This is not some secret MN society, it's more a question of how people use online forums and what sense of humour they have. Just join in if you want to, but don't read more into it than there is to it.

Hullygully · 05/10/2012 13:03

I am going out now

I am going to talk to a tree and GET MORE BLOODY SENSE FROM IT THAN ON THIS THREAD

amillionyears · 05/10/2012 13:03

Hullygully,if I have to pick one I will choose mad Grin

amillionyears · 05/10/2012 13:04

x post Hully !

TheVermiciousKnid · 05/10/2012 13:05

Hully, I hope you will talk nicely to the tree and not bully it!

FancyPuffin · 05/10/2012 13:05

Smiling at the thought of a massive LARK ALERT running over facebook, twitter etc.

FancyPuffin · 05/10/2012 13:06

I'll talk to anyone, I will.

amillionyears · 05/10/2012 13:06

ScrambledSmegs,so none of the larkers do that re the alert system?

TheVermiciousKnid · 05/10/2012 13:09

As soon as there is any sign of larking on any thread an alarm goes off on my laptop / phone and I drop whatever I'm doing to join in. Oh yes.

No - there is no larking alarm!

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 13:10

No, what a strange idea! Honestly, some people are just on here far too much a lot, and use Active Convos.

I have heard of it happening very occasionally amongst non-larkers though, which may be where the misconception comes from.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 13:12

BUT - and that was a big but - I haven't ever seen it myself, so it's probably a fallacy.

seeker · 05/10/2012 13:12

Why not just list the names? Then everyone will know who you're talking about. Hinting like this is just grim.

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/10/2012 13:12

Anyway, I know I'm not a po, but am I a larker?
What qualifications do I need to join?

Jusfloatingby · 05/10/2012 13:15

I'm not that long on here so don't really recognise most posters. Are the larkers a popular clique that other people want to join or an unpopular group that stick together because no one else likes them?
Are the larkers considered larkers by everyone or is it just an image they have of themselves?

This is very confusing. It's worse than being back in school.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 13:18

No such thing as a larkers clique, Jus. Join in if you want to, ignore if you don't. I don't know what I am, quite frankly. Maybe I am number 6?

Most cliques hang out on another board on MN now anyway, as it turned out they were annoying some people by always being in Active Convos.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 13:19

Don't be confused, btw. Have a Brew and some [biccies] and let it all wash over you. Bourbon or custard cream?

Oh Christ, who cares?

trice · 05/10/2012 13:22

Well Maryz I never knew you could find your number. I am number 5325 - I just looked it up.

I read as a larker but post as a po. I am just not that amusing in type.
