Still nasty for the poor abused poster, though Jamie

Has gone now Maryz

ZombTEE · 05/10/2012 20:57

Okay. So I'd better go write up my submission for tomorrow...

MaryZed · 05/10/2012 20:58

Jamie, I think you can sometimes be right about mh issues. Which is why (generally) I'm a bit more gentle to newbies.

But sometimes twats post goading posts (or aibu's) and then when things go against them come up with "but I have mh issues, or PND or something" and that pisses me off, because there are many people with mh issues who struggle, but manage to be civil.

So while it is sometimes a reason for vague twattishness, it isn't really a good excuse, if that makes sense.

But yes, it is something I'm aware of. And also sometimes posters are young, or ill-educated, or not really up to argument, and I get cross if people take the piss out of them too.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 05/10/2012 21:00

KS

Yes, of course, which is why I reported it

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 05/10/2012 21:01

Mary

The kind of person I'm thinking of doesn't say they have MH issues.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 05/10/2012 21:02

Mary
Sorry posted too soon. I agree with you

ZombTEE · 05/10/2012 21:10

As someone with MH issues, I refuse to accept that as an excuse for being a twat.

If I am a twat, I'm a twat. It has nothing to do with my mental health.

IamtheZombie · 05/10/2012 21:12

TheLightPassenger, I remember becoming aware of it in my very early days here. Sometime in the last month / 6 weeks one of the MNHQers mentioned it again. When text speak was brought up on this thread I went looking until I found it. It makes perfect sense to me. I do agree that posters are often jumped on for using it and there are better ways of telling posters why they shouldn't. I've got the link bookmarked now and hopefully I can at least occasionally in future get in first and cut the posse off at the pass while politely pointing out the MN etiquette.

I don't get too upset about most other things. I've seen too many predictive text howlers, fat finger fumbles, etc. I've also identified a couple of posters whom I believe use voice recognition software to dictate their posts. I'd be in like a shot if anyone tried to call them on how their posts read.

Can't reply properly at the mo (yeah, I said mo, no not moment but mo, get your head around it mmm'kay) but Zomb just wanted to say that my mum has been working in MH since I was a kid and that may be your feeling about it but there are plenty of people with MH issues who are emotionally and socially far more vulnerable than that.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 21:47

I think it's still bullying if it's struck out.

Zombie, that's a really useful link. Thank you Thanks I agree that pulling posters up on spelling, punctuation et al is can be really unkind, especially when they've plucked up the courage to ask for help on something really distresing.

MaryZed · 05/10/2012 21:49

You know, we are in danger of all agreeing with each other here Shock.

That makes us a posse, I think. Or a gang, maybe?

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 21:52

How does voice recognition software deal with stuff like strikeouts, smilies etc? I get why txt spk is problematic for that, but surely some of the MN effects cause problems too then.

greenhill · 05/10/2012 21:52

Could we be called The Agreeables?

IamtheZombie · 05/10/2012 21:53

ScrambledSmegs, the posters I'm thinking about don't use formatting or smilies in their posts.

ZombTEE · 05/10/2012 21:55

Well, LDN since you have no idea what my MH issues are, you're making some huge assumptions there, aren't you?

Also, if its your mum? You're basing it on hearsay. Work with or have MH issues yourself, and then I'll agree with you.

See? I'm being a twat. And it has nothing o do with my MH issues. I'm sometimes just a twat.

MaryZed · 05/10/2012 21:59

Tee is a twa-at, Tee is a twa-at

TiggyD · 05/10/2012 22:00

I'm thinking of starting a Mumsnet gang against bullying.

The Big Union of Mumsnetters Mirthlessly Eradicating Rudeness.

Who wants to be a BUMMER?

MaryZed · 05/10/2012 22:01

Me, me

My name is MaryZed and I am a BUMMER

ZombTEE · 05/10/2012 22:02

Me!

My name is Tee. I'm such a BUMMER!!

TiggyD · 05/10/2012 22:04

We're much better than the Cuddly Union of Netmum Thread Speakers.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 22:12

Zombie, for some reason I assumed that the voice recognition software was reading out stuff on MN. What a tit I am Sad

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2012 22:15

Why do I get a mental image of <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&client=safari&sa=X&rls=en&biw=1440&bih=838&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=6GmGB7l7hOxS-M:&imgrefurl=en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gareth_Keenan&docid=XGauycMCoWGRzM&imgurl=upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4f/Gareth_Keenan.jpg/260px-Gareth_Keenan.jpg&w=260&h=195&ei=201vUITsFqTT0QWDw4CICg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=851&vpy=175&dur=10718&hovh=156&hovw=208&tx=160&ty=55&sig=117915623402576678836&page=1&tbnh=147&tbnw=196&start=0&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0,i:80" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this man when you say BUMMER?
