Ok so went for 6 week postnatal check for me and ds2 and the doctor was asking about feeding and I said yes I am breast feeding so she said oh so his poo's will still smell quiet sweet then she said 'when you start mixed feeding then his poo's will smell horrible'!! So I just said back I don't think well be doing that somehow I breast fed ds1 for 18 months.

The point is I never even mentioned any desire to use formula or mix feed. Am annoyed because of the assumtion I will mix feed and because I thought the nhs were supposed to be encouraging breast feeding! I have nothing against anyone who choses to mix feed or formula feed its there choice but I feel my doctor should not be making an asumptions about how I feed my baby!!

Are you sure she didnt mean mixed feeding like when you start to wean?

meditrina · 04/10/2012 19:31

I would have understood the term "mixed feeding" to refer to the introduction of solids, and so would have found the comment unexceptional.

Convert · 04/10/2012 19:31

Really you're annoyed at this?
Maybe she meant when you start weaning. I'm surprised anyone actually says anything to other people at all because it seems you can't breathe without annoying them.

Floralnomad · 04/10/2012 19:31

I think YAB a little over sensitive , it sounds like she was just trying to make conversation.

catgirl1976 · 04/10/2012 19:31

YABU to be annoyed.

Why would you be annoyed? She said something, you said "oh im not planning to do that". Over and done with.

Anypointinseeingdoc · 04/10/2012 19:31

Well it could be seen as encouraging you to breastfeed, pointing out that formula fed poo stinks.

catgirl1976 · 04/10/2012 19:32

And she probably did mean why you introduce solids as baby poo when they have breast and formula still smells sweet and lovely

PacificDogwood · 04/10/2012 19:32

FF babies' poo smells sweetish as well and has that korma consitency.

I presume dr ment weaning.

And one of my EBF DS' poos were green throughout and stank to high heavens. Go figure.

You might be reading a bit too much into that remark.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 04/10/2012 19:33

YABU and totally ridiculous.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/10/2012 19:33

YANBU, only in the sense that I remember getting annoyed by pretty much everything when DS was 6 weeks old Smile

MorrisZapp · 04/10/2012 19:37

Ha ha ha

You jest, surely?

WofflingOn · 04/10/2012 19:38

I'd have thought that the comment was about weaning your DS at a much later date. I think JITCV makes sense, are you going to be this sensitive for long?
I was astounded by how stinky babypoo was, anyone that thought it was sweet would have made me Shock

susiegrapevine · 04/10/2012 19:39

Well when I said we won't be doing that because I bf ds1 for 13 months she just said oh ok that's a long time. And who ever refered to weaning as mixed feeding?? Plus she has made assumtions about me ff before when ds1 was younger and ill she started to say well you need to water down his formula to... We had to interupt her then too and say well actually he is breast fed. Annoyed me then too

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 04/10/2012 19:40

You are being over the top getting offended at a truthful comment.

50smellsofshite · 04/10/2012 19:40

You are really annoyed that someone may or may not have suggested that sometime in the future you may give your baby formula milk?

It's not rat poison you know? Sounds like normal conversation. YABU.

KenLeeeeeee · 04/10/2012 19:40

YAB-a little oversensitive. I think she probably meant 'mixed' in the sense of introducing solid food rather than the assumption that you'll use inevitably use formula at some stage.

cansu · 04/10/2012 19:40

You sound very easily annoyed.

NimpyWindowMash · 04/10/2012 19:40

Pacific you have put me off having a korma for quite some time

Tangointhenight · 04/10/2012 19:41

YABU

Get over your self bloody hell!!!

catgirl1976 · 04/10/2012 19:42

But...........even if she did mistakenly assume you were going to FF, why would this annoy you?

Like if someone mistakenly assumed you were going to buy a blue car instead of a red car. There is nothing offensive in that, it's just inaccurate, not offensive.

Unless you think formula is crack cocaine or something

wannabedomesticgoddess · 04/10/2012 19:42

I understand how upset you can get when your baby is that little.

But you sound utterly offended that someone would suggest you might FF. So I dont believe that you have nothing against people who dont BF.

I think either you are incredibly oversensitive or you were hoping for another FF/BF bunfight.

Either way YABU.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 04/10/2012 19:43

I was asked by a consultant (natch) for DD1's dummy when she was 3 weeks old.

How dare he assume!

OP, I admire your restraint. Istabbed that doc.

MadgeHarvey · 04/10/2012 19:43

You sound like a very annoyed person. Perhaps you should, you know, try be less annoyed about everything and enjoy your baby?

phantomnamechanger · 04/10/2012 19:43

YABU and very over sensitive, Dr was just being nice - but we'll blame it on your hormones , eh? Wink

enjoy your lovely baby DS!

larks35 · 04/10/2012 19:44

YABU. As has been said, she may have meant when you start feeding solids or may have presumed (how very dare she!) that you may mix feed with formula at some point. Whatever she meant she was not being rude. BTW, it is true about the difference in poo smell, but you probably know this from your first!
