To think that the bullying culture on MN can be a bit much....

tjah04 · 04/10/2012 08:50

Having been a member of MN since 2003 I have seen and read some disgusting comments from other members particuarly on this board.

I am starting to think that some of these people must be very sad and insecure.

Some of the names that are called are disgusting and I am sure that these people would never go up to someone in RL and call them that.

And do not get me started on the "I am better than you because I can spell" attitude which seems to be the final insult if all else fails.

Other comments include

"troll" "Oh not another thread" etc.

It is cyber bullying at the end of the day and as mothers shouldn't we all just grow up a bit? The MN team do a great job of deleting such posts but often the OP has seen it and the damage is already done.

Ed, serious point, if you really want to have a serious discussion about the point, start a genuine thread about it?

THERE^^

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 17:05

It is not a specific group. That implies some kind of off-post agreement that we are all going to post in a specific way, or take a specific tack. This is not what is happening. People, random posters, anyone who wanted to, joined in and posted as they saw fit. Some posted in response to the OP, others didn't. There is no group or pack.

EdMcDunnough · 04/10/2012 17:06

I wasn't trying to twist anything Hully. And do you have to shout, it's unnecessary.

It's not unnecessary to me.

I'm cross.

An apology would be more appreciated than attempting to deflect your assertion with remarks about shouting.

EdMcDunnough · 04/10/2012 17:07

And I still don't really understand why you thought this thread wasn't appropriate to discuss the point the OP was making?

Sorry, I did ask you at the time, because I was and still am genuinely confused.

apologise for what?

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 17:09

Because. Everyone. Earlier .On.On.This.Thread.Said.They.doubted.The.OPs.Intentions.So.You.Were.Unlikely.To.Get.A.Serious.Discussion.Going.

Is that clear enough?

I cannot think of anyway to make things clearer.

Perhaps this inability to understand lies at the root of a lot of bullying complaint shit?

So is it now an official 'regulars shouldn't talk to each other' thread?

Just so I know.

I am only waiting for Tees thread tbh, to check tee was not in need of respite to recover.

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 17:11

Oh never mind Ed

I've lost the will to live

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 17:11

No, Pag. Regulars can talk to each other, but we have to disagree with each other, just to prove that we do not share the pack mentality.

EdMcDunnough · 04/10/2012 17:12

Thanks, I get what you mean now. At the time I didn't because you didn't say all that. But you have now. Thankyou.

I still don't agree. A lot of people responded quite reasonably tot he OP - and a few said they thought she was after a fight.

I don't think that counts as 'everyone' though I take your point it was going to be hopeless talking seriously about it - though as it's proved now, the thread has been quite interesting and on topic in places.

I don't see why I would have to leave and start another rather than the people doubting intentions doing the same - it transpired the OP was fairly serious about it after all.

OwlLady · 04/10/2012 17:13

I don't know how you know who is and who isn't a regular these days tbh

an observation not a criticism

LtEveDallas · 04/10/2012 17:13

amillionyears, nope, no journalists in the Army. Media Ops officers yes, but they have been dicked to do the job on top of their real trades.

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 17:14

It depended what you wanted Ed

Shoulds and oughts are one thing

If you really wanted a genuine discussion, shoulds and oughts needed putting to one side and pragmatism needed to be employed in the form of starting another thread.

However, I have not only lost the will to live, I have eaten my own head.

EdMcDunnough · 04/10/2012 17:15

I have to go out again anyway.

love u hulls

TantrumsAndBalloons · 04/10/2012 17:17

So if the op had a genuine point and the thread went the exact way she said it did, why has no one actually been able to clarify what happened?

Maybe because it didn't actually happen? Maybe because she wasn't called a name out of the clear blue sky and all the "regular" posters chipped in with smily faces and agreements?

Not that I'm agreeing with any regulars, you understand. I wouldn't dream of it.

amillionyears · 04/10/2012 17:18

Are you a Media Op,or will that out you?
Dont answer if you dont want to,or if it is dangerous to do so.

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 17:18

Why do I always think I know you Ed?

tjah04 · 04/10/2012 17:18

I thought this all died with the paint so have only just seen this.

Can I just say that I did not and have not targeted this post at anyone. I have never mentioned "regulars" or complained about a specific post. I explained my namechange but that was it.

It is something I have (any many other posters) have seen happen and I wanted to discuss it.

If you disagree with my terminology that is all part of the debate and everyone is welcome to agree/disagree.

It is not OK because MNHQ delete said posts. They should not happen in the first place.

OP posts:
amillionyears · 04/10/2012 17:19

Was Tee's thread in chat?
And was it near the beginning of August,or later than that?

TantrumsAndBalloons · 04/10/2012 17:19

And in order to establish who the regulars are, don't you have to be on mumsnet pretty well....regularly yourself?
Otherwise how would you know?

So what makes a regular into a "regular"
