Surely there are thousands of others just as capable at doing the job?

Just out of curiousity, would you feel the same way about a health care professional who had to treat your child in an emergency with tattoos on their neck or is it just tv presenters.

McHappy my son is 2.10. He saw my tattoos and straight away wanted one.

I told him maybe when he is 4. I have to make sure its what he really wants before he commits

McHappyPants2012 · 03/10/2012 18:35

SPsFanjoLovesItGangnamStyle · 03/10/2012 18:40

monkeysbignuts · 03/10/2012 18:43

my 5 year old said he wants one when he's old enough lol, I am such a negative influence! Tattoos and heavy metal Shock

McHappyPants2012 · 03/10/2012 18:53

so did I :) will be getting another real tattoo soon and can not wait.

SPsFanjoLovesItGangnamStyle · 03/10/2012 18:59

I'm hoping for another soon. Think my brother is paying for it as a xmas present because apparently Santa doesn't get them.

Mum flat out refuses to pay Grin

Though I had one at 15 with her consent I still paid for it my self

EmmaBemma · 03/10/2012 19:03

"I think a lot of tattoo places refuse to do them not sure why"

Only if you haven't got a lot of ink elsewhere on your body. It's because they can't easily be hidden - for the same reason, most reputable places won't tattoo your hands either unless you've got other tattoos.

BustersOfDoom · 03/10/2012 19:08

See I think attitudes to neck tattoos are somewhat to do with your age. When I was younger tattoos seemed to be limited to men and only involved love and hate on the knuckles, Mam or your DM's/DW's name on your forearm, a spider's web on the elbow and if you were really hard - like the skinheads who used to hang about our local shopping centre - a dotted line across the throat with 'cut here' on the side of your neck. And I do wonder how those old skinheads are coping/going to cope when they go bald and their "Oi! Skins Forever" and pro National Front tats are on show when they are old men..

But times have changed. Tattoos are far more mainstream and are artistic, colourful and often beautiful. I don't have any but I have seen some that are beautiful. DP has a great big one on his shoulder and upper arm that I really like. A neck tattoo doesn't send out the same message that it did 20 or 30 years ago. It wouldn't bother me if I interviewed someone with one if they were qualified for the job and confident and competent at interview.

Oh and if you're 18 do re-think having a circle of dolphins tattooed round your belly button. Four years later when you've been heavily pregnant it is never, ever going to look the same again!

nkf · 03/10/2012 19:12

It's a generational thing. And a class thing. To some people they look fine and to others odd and to some disgusting.

And in some jobs it won't matter and in some it will. Children's TV presenter is hardly a mainstream job so it's probably fine and dandy there.

YouMayLogOut · 03/10/2012 19:15

YANBU. I think tattoos look grubby.

tigerdriverII · 03/10/2012 19:23

Personally I think YANatallBU (I loathe tatoos) but I also understand why people are shouting judgy. However I don't understand why anyone thinks your attitude is discriminatory. We have laws about race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability discrimination (and one or two more) but I don't think you'll find that disliking tatoos is a breach of any of them.

hifi · 03/10/2012 20:24

Yanbu, they look disgusting and shouldn't be seen as normal. I wouldn't want my dc thinking they were acceptable.

Sparklingbrook · 03/10/2012 20:53

hifi what a strange statement.

SPsFanjoLovesItGangnamStyle · 03/10/2012 20:56

Hifi [consfused]

monkeysbignuts · 03/10/2012 21:03

well I don't care what anyone thinks of my tattoos because its my skin and my ink. No one can tell you what's acceptable and what's not as its individual and unacceptable is illegal stuff, tattoos are not illegal.
One of my best friends has two.amazing but very big tattoos under her ribs, and down to her waist and hips. they are gorgeous and very unique to her.

McHappyPants2012 · 03/10/2012 22:19

my tats are not grubby, i do maintain my tats and when they look faded i will get them recoloured.

sonofzod · 04/10/2012 03:36

Get a Grip, does that also go for the lass on Cbeebies with 1 arm, does that also offend you..

You sound like you need to get out more rather than worrying about a presenters neck tattoo that would rarely be on show

ripsishere · 04/10/2012 05:34

www.hangkeiho.co.uk/portfolio/gok-wan-made-in-china-tattoo/ I know he isn't a children's telly presenter, but you could also catch Gay]]
I am not keen on tats, but I'd make an exception for Prof Green.
