To think toddlers with cold sores shouldn't be in nursery

One of the kids at dd's nursery had a big nasty cold sore last week now she has one. Argh! They don't let them in with cp and once it's done it's done as long as your not high risk, she'll have this virus for the rest of her life.

Vinegar.

Or just try thinking about vinegar.

I often get them with my period as well. I'm pretty terrified of passing them onto 8mo DD as they've been the bane of my life for so long. I think the thing that scares me about her catching them when she's young is that they can spread to other areas of the body like eyes and cause permanent cornea scarring. When she's so young she wouldn't know not to touch her mouth then her eye. Frankly I do feel like a leper when I have one. Which is often. Sad

I'd be livid if after all my care she got one from someone at nursery.

ChasedByBees If its any comfort, the virus really does manifest in many different ways, and the majority of people who have it do not experience severe symptoms.

However, nursery is less likely to give it to her than you are, and I would say its a pretty good thing no one is suggesting you be quaranteened.

chasedwithbees I am with you!!

Also feel like a bit of a leper when I have one - but let's face it they are pretty revolting.

Top tip is l-lysine tablets. It is an amino acid which inhibits the spread of cold sores. Honestly it is fabulous. I take it every night, and rarely get a cold sore now. When I do, I take lysine several times in the day and it often goes away. I also rest and wash my hands A LOT!

You can get them from Holland and Barrett. This article has a short piece about how they work. Best best best thing I have ever discovered.

My sister gets them, I lived with her for twenty years. My good friend got them I lived with her for four years.

You don't know what has happened, she could have the dormant virus for all you know and passed it on to the other kid before it became visible.

I think you are being very unreasonable.

PickledFanjoCat · 04/10/2012 10:45

Oh my point being I've never even had one.
