AIBU to think that child tax credits should only be for the very needy rather than just supplementing people's income? Family of 5 down the street with only one part time earner heading off for 2 weeks on holiday. Isn't the govt just subsidising thei...

not being funny but what business is it of yours firstly & secondly how do you know they haven't saved hard all year for the holiday?
We get tax credits and could only afford 3 nights & 4 days in angelsea, it was a lovely break but we had to save hard for it & my parents gave us some money towards it

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 28/09/2012 12:18

We have child tax credits...we are going to Australia for Christmas. BECAUSE OUR INLAWS ARE PAYING> what do you know about the neighbours circumstances???

YouMayLogOut · 28/09/2012 12:19

DameKewcumber · 28/09/2012 12:19

Goodness you do know a lot more about the people down the road than I know about the people down the road in my street (or them about me) Confused

I get child tax credit and in December I'm going on a cruise Shock with my DS and my mum.

I went away for three holidays in the summer and will be going to Majorca for a week at half term in October Shock

I should be publically thrashed.

Mind you - my lovely mum is funding the majority of the cruise, my holidays in the summer were at my mums caravan, my sisters house in IOW and camping. And the week in Majorca is at my sisters house and she has generously funded the flights for us.

Perhaps people who have generous relatives shouldn't be allowed benefits either - their relatives should be made to support them.

I hope the OP has had a flaming
Biscuit anyone?

ExitPursuingDameAbsy · 28/09/2012 12:20

It's Anglesey.

Bigpants1 · 28/09/2012 12:22

Yep, that's right, no family on tax credits/other benefits should ever go on holiday,OP.
You forgot to add, that there should be regular shaming days, where people on benefits should be put in the stocks & all the superior beings can throw there Waitrose vegetables at them, shouting," that'll learn 'em"!
Judy Pants??? Yours are soooo judgy they've disappeared up your a---e!!
HTH.

VinegarTits · 28/09/2012 12:24

gordy who is looking after your goat while your on holiday?

(p.s dont buy anything leather from the big marcket in Mahon, my new bag smells like its still mooing or has been dipped in cow shit Hmm)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/09/2012 12:28

YANBU. Tax credits are to top a too low income to a liveable one.

If tax credits were unavailable more people would be unable to afford to work, and 100% benefits costs the country more than a tax credit top up (and that's not just financially)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/09/2012 12:29

Arse, YABU

OhChristFENTON · 28/09/2012 12:33

I STILL want to know And WHAT???

I want to know what else you were going to say OP, - I really do and I'm not even goading I'm curious.

Shh...

Is that the sound of someone namechanging ?

theinets · 28/09/2012 12:37

I think all tax credits should be abolished. They've made millions dependent on the state and are just another benefit. A bribe to vote labour. They never existed before Gordon Brown and people managed. I agree with the op. My sister gets hundreda of pounds a month and doesn't need it. She eats at fancy restaurants and the family earns 40k a year. Bonkers.

Mrsjay · 28/09/2012 12:40

Top up benefit has been on going for years we got them when dd2 was small in fact we got them up until 2000 they were just called something else (family credits i think ) It isn't a new thing My mum was a single parent in the 70s and worked part time but got topped up although they were very strict and mum was spot checked regularly ,

Mrsjay · 28/09/2012 12:40

DDs not DD2

Bigpants1 · 28/09/2012 12:40

Judy pants???lol. What are Judy Pants??
Judgy pants!

DameKewcumber · 28/09/2012 12:41

what benefit (apart form child benefit) do you qualify for on £40k a year? Confused

OhChristFENTON · 28/09/2012 12:41

Okay theinets we'll put you down for agreeing with the OP.

OhChristFENTON · 28/09/2012 12:42

Judy pants are like judgy pants but far more ladylike.

harvestvestibule · 28/09/2012 12:42

You are mad or too young to remember.tax credits lifted millions of people out of the poverty trap and enabled them to work.

SaraSidle · 28/09/2012 12:43

Op.... Do you get child benefit? And what benefits did you get when you were a lone parent? because I do know you have been a lone parent in the past..........

MissBlennerhassett · 28/09/2012 12:45

It's difficult though isn't it? On the one finely manicured hand, I'd like to see the undeserving ungrateful unwaged turfed out of their mansions, but on the other I'd really rather not have to step over them on my way into Fortnum and Mason. Hmm, what to do?

(YABVVU)

thebeesnees79 · 28/09/2012 12:49

you would not be eligible for tax credits if you earned £40k! That's child benefit tut

thedogsrolex · 28/09/2012 12:51

theinets, if tax credit were abolished then many lone parents wouldn't be able to work at all, or feed themselves. No, it doesn't make people dependant on the state because I for one worked all my adult life, on a low wage. You're getting your shit mixed up, probably because you know fuck all about it.

EldritchCleavage · 28/09/2012 12:51

Such a poor attempt OP. 1 out of 10.
