AIBU to think that child tax credits should only be for the very needy rather than just supplementing people's income? Family of 5 down the street with only one part time earner heading off for 2 weeks on holiday. Isn't the govt just subsidising thei...

me and my husband work and get tax credits. It just tops us up and we would really struggle without it

thedogsrolex · 28/09/2012 13:04

My DB gets tax credits not because he doesn't work hard or anything. He works long hours. However, he lives in a deprived area and wages even for a skilled worker aren't very good.

Did you know OP living in an area where wages are shit doesn't mean that petrol and food in the same area is any cheaper. So DB spends a significantly higher proportion of his income on luxuries like feeding his children than I do. I don't begrudge him a penny nor his family holidays.

I find these threads less alarming when it's by an obvious troll.... Rather than an otherwise sane poster who has contributed on MN fairly innocently....til now!

redwineformethanks · 28/09/2012 13:10

I would think of a foreign holiday as a luxury and I think benefits should be reserved for people who really need them to buy essentials.

I agree that OP's neighbours may not be using their benefits

KentuckyFriedChildren · 28/09/2012 13:11

Anyone else getting a bit bored of these idiots people who moan about other people's benefits? Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

theinets · 28/09/2012 13:12

Benefits are not necessary for most. Lone parents are often in an unfortunate position but often they have put themselves there through their own actions. Why should the state run around picking up the pieces of their bad decisions. I would bring back detailed interviewa to find out who was deserving of benefits, and give food vouchers rather than cash so it doesn't all get blown on ciggies and booze.

OhChristFENTON · 28/09/2012 13:12

oh dear God Hmm

thedogsrolex · 28/09/2012 13:13

Exactly chaz, I worked my rolex off for shit pay, (ahem), some people don't have a clue! Grin . Back off dogs, back off, don't get sucked in.....

Iggly · 28/09/2012 13:13

YANBU

People on tax credits should be living in shanty towns with noting but gruel to eat. Actually, no, how dare they have a roof over their head. They should be sleeping in the streets with nothing but the dust from my shoes to eat. Then, maybe then, they can have financial assistance....

Yes like those silly women who leave abusive partners rather than putting up with the abuse for the sake of the tax payer.

or My Dad who stupidly allowed himself to become a widower when he still had school age children.

or those daft people who have a partner leave and refuse to take responsibility for the children.

Is it nice there on Planet Daily Mail Hmm

Iggly · 28/09/2012 13:15

What have lone parents got to do with this?

Oh wait, I forget - lone parents are the root of all evil.

thedogsrolex · 28/09/2012 13:16

If you do, don't tell the kids and snaffle all the chocs.

If they notice they're gone blame Santa

OhChristFENTON · 28/09/2012 13:21

Iggly, you are not BU, but be careful where you store it until December, the chocolate ones tend to turn white if they aren't kept in a cool place.

EldritchCleavage · 28/09/2012 13:21

Lindt do very nice Advent calendars-see their website.

thebeesnees79 · 28/09/2012 13:22

theinets = troll!
How dare you say Lone parents have put themselves in that situation. Do you know the in's & outs of every loan parents situation?

DameKewcumber · 28/09/2012 13:23

theinets - ha ha ha ha haaa!

Is there some kind of benefit bingo going on I don't know about?

Of course anyone on beneifts is single, smokes, drinks and most have done something dastardly to deserve their children living in poverty.

Personally I don't drink or smoke, I was made redundant and have struggle to fin a job which either fits in with school or one which pays enough for childcare. To my shame I am single. I even chose to be a single parent as I adopted as a single parent Shock

Would I be in the derserving poor category or not? {muses}
