AIBU to think that child tax credits should only be for the very needy rather than just supplementing people's income? Family of 5 down the street with only one part time earner heading off for 2 weeks on holiday. Isn't the govt just subsidising thei...

mrsmoodypants · 28/09/2012 10:54

If the family earn a joint income of £30k and have three kids they can get almost £3k in tax credits......perhaps they used the tax credits for food and saved their income for the holiday Wink

How the hell do you know what they get??? And who gives a stuff what they spend it on - how about wishing them and the kids a happy holiday?

Govt policy not the family stealing - do you expect them to send the money back instead?

Crazy thread - not quite sure what response you were expection Hmm

MummysHappyPills · 28/09/2012 10:55

I think it is wrong that families with both parents working need to have their income topped up to pay ridiculous rents and mortgages, because their incomes alone are not enough. But that is society's problem, and not the fault of the people claiming what they are entitled to.

BenandBolly · 28/09/2012 10:55

Lots of people think that they have a right to condemn those on any sort of obvious benefit for having anything that could be deemed a luxury.

Those people forget that they probably receive some sort of benefit from others taxes such as free schooling for more than 1 child, NHS care for children, maternity pay etc etc!

MOST people receive benefits of some kind in this country and are receiving them from those paying huge amounts of tax and those without children or ill health. But it seems people forget about these less obvious benefits and feel the need to judge those on more obvious benefits.

OP unless you are earning a very large salary and have no kids you should be judging yourself if you have a holiday.

Dahlen · 28/09/2012 11:02

75% of the population receive some level of benefits.

I think that's a very damning indictment about the state of wages in this country. It is beyond ludicrous and morally unjustifiable that a family with two people working are unable to support themselves without state assistance - and many cannot because wages are so low and living costs so high (particularly housing, childcare and fuel).

The real anger should be directed not at those trying to scrape by but at governments (of all colours) who have created an economic situation that allows this to happen.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/09/2012 11:06

I really dislike the opinion circulating at the minute that people on benefits choose to be on them.

There are no bloody jobs. And the few that there are have thousands applying. And now most of the jobs are 0 hour contracts and part time temporary.

How is anyone supposed to keep a roof over their heads and support their families with unreliable hours/jobs?

And even if you do get a full time contract, the pay is so low you havent a hope of paying rent/mortgage and feeding your family, let alone anything else.

But oh no. People on benefits are just scum. They are scroungers. They choose to not work.

FFS when will it stop Angry

You have no idea what their finances are, whether they've come into money or whether they've saved their fucking arses off for years for a holiday.

Am seriously getting annoyed with the number of these envy threads popping up. As someone else has posted, mind your own business.

Oh and yes, you are being unreasonable.

Does the 97" flat screen TV come as standard or do you have to fill in a separate form?

What happens if the goat eats the form?

thedogsrolex · 28/09/2012 11:17

If the goat eats your form you can appeal.
