AIBU to think that child tax credits should only be for the very needy rather than just supplementing people's income? Family of 5 down the street with only one part time earner heading off for 2 weeks on holiday. Isn't the govt just subsidising thei...

Perhaps they're taking part in a social experiment for the Daily Mail?

The poor people will be tempted with a slice of naice ham and before they know it, they're on the end of a crab line being dunked in the water seeing how many crabs they can catch for the rich folk to eat?

Tomorrow's headline... "Crab infestation on local council estate".

These people pay a lot in taxes, so I don't see a problem personally.

MadBusLady · 28/09/2012 10:35

Agree with Dahlen and qo. It's a shame some people mix up valid talking points with their own petty jealousies, because it does mean anyone who tries to discuss this stuff sensibly is at risk of being dismissed as a Daily Mailer.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/09/2012 10:36

Why does going on holiday mean its tax credits that have paid for it Hmm ?

For all you know they might have been saving for 5 years to pay for it.

God forbid the lazy bastards scrounging off benefits should go on holiday!!!

GobblersKnob · 28/09/2012 10:36

VinegarTits where have you beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen?

ChazsGoldAttitude · 28/09/2012 10:38

OP they may have just themselves massively in debt for the holiday and will be struggling to dig themself out of a payday loan black hole for months afterwards.

I agree with those who are questioning a system where the income difference between being in work and not in work is sometimes quite marginal.

OhChristFENTON · 28/09/2012 10:39

VinegarTits I think the 'goat thing' first turned up on a benefits bashing thread a couple of years ago. It was considered IIRC that the OP was a bit of a troll to keep banging on about benefit scroungers so a goat was subtly lobbed in to the mix, - something like "people on benefits shouldn't be able to afford to keep a goat".

Or at least that's the first time I saw it anyway.

VinegarTits · 28/09/2012 10:40

Grin and knobbers, i moved house and discovered something called 'real life' Shock

the novelty is wearing off a bit now though

Fairylea · 28/09/2012 10:41

I love the way people pass judgement without having access to their bank accounts or anything else. So many possibilities.. saving for ages, inheritance ... maybe one of them has non obvious disabilities so hence the working part time.

Judgey pants.

sorry golbbers i mis-read your name a knobbers Blush

SammyTheSwedishSquirrel · 28/09/2012 10:45

The first goat reference I saw was some troll OP bitching about how disability payments now get to paid to anyone and their goat.

OhChristFENTON · 28/09/2012 10:45

Thought I hadn't seen you about, nice to have you back Smile

Bonkey how did you do that, are you the OP?

harvestvestibule · 28/09/2012 10:47

when tax credits first came out, the advert showed a family on holiday in the med . The ethos of tax credits is to make work pay more than not working.
Also how do you know they claim tax credits. My friend doesn't she works part time as a paediatrics consultant and her DH is a stay at home dad. They live well on her part time wage.

GobblersKnob · 28/09/2012 10:47

Rl? Shock you don't want to get involved in that malarky.

Hope all is going well for you, very good to see you back.

Will forgive you the 'knobbers' Grin

TheBonkeyMollocks · 28/09/2012 10:49

Tad offended at that Fenton ! Shock

minipie · 28/09/2012 10:49

Leaving aside the OP and going straight to the real point...

If low salaries are topped up by tax credits, doesn't that just enable employers to keep salaries low?
