to expect my delivery to be bought up two flights of stairs

I have twins and I am unable to bring my shopping and my babies up the stairs hence the reason for online shopping!!

The delivery driver, told me he was only going to bring up half my shopping because there wasn?t a lift available in the block of flats where I live and he doesn?t have to bring it up, apparently he told me this last time. I then asked where he was going to put it and he said he was leaving it on the first floor, to which I said every other driver from (supermarkets) have all bought my shopping up with no complaints.

I said I was going to call the customer help line because this was unacceptable, and asked him where he was going to leave the shopping to which he replied I?ll leave it in the van. When I spoke to customer service they put me on hold and rang the store. In that time he bought up the rest of my shopping. Not sure what promoted him to do so.

The man from customer service came back on the phone; he had spoken to the store and said in the terms and conditions, ?Blah blah blah' And said it was up to me to discuss future delivery options. I was crying down the phone as I was so upset at such a confrontation so early on in the morning whilst both my babies were crying and my husband was not at home. Not once did the customer service rep show any empathy towards me.

Looked on the company website and I cant find anything about using a lift.

Arggggghhhhhhhh - over it

No - the delivery address is not "XYZ Court." It's Flat 27, XYZ Court.

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:33

No sammy. That isn't the man entrance at all. The main entrance would be the lobby.

McHappyPants2012 · 27/09/2012 16:34

What is the differences between having steps out side the home to having stairs in the home.

CaliforniaLeaving · 27/09/2012 16:34

I thought this was the point of internet shopping, being able to buy stuff to be delivered to your home that you would have trouble carrying home or moving. Sick and home bound people (broken leg accident or after surgery) wouldn't have been able to get down to carry anything back up, so would have ordered to get the stuff into their flat. Part or the service I would hope.

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:35

Mchappy - I would expect about 2 flights worth?

TryingToGetBy · 27/09/2012 16:35

Goldship have you ever had twins and lived in a 2nd floor flat? You sound bloody horrible.

drjohnsonscat · 27/09/2012 16:35

That's not what the Ts and Cs said goldship. The Ts and Cs say the driver can reserve the right not to deliver to the door for safety and practicality reasons. So if there is no staircase, just a ladder, he can invoke that. If there are no safety or practicality reasons then he's just lazy and is misuing the Ts and Cs.

Sirzy · 27/09/2012 16:36

So them not wanting to add an extra 5-10 minutes onto deliveries when they are already on a tight schedule is lazy?

I guess you would all be happy for your delivery to come late because they were waiting time taking people's shopping up and down stairs?

drjohnsonscat · 27/09/2012 16:37

Yes sirzy because when I've paid for something to be delivered to my property it's the business of the supermarket to work out how long it will take to do that.

If they don't cover my area because it's too far out of their way (hence mainland Britain only) then fine. If they cover me then I expect to get the service promised which is to the door of the delivery address which is the particular flat not the block.

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:37

Drjohnson - you can't tell what sort of risk assessment he did in his head. He might have had a bad back that day and thought it not worth the risk. You don't know.

And these people have deadlines like us all, we complain when our shopping isn't on time and this is one of the reasons why.

TryingToGetBy · 27/09/2012 16:38

I would have cried too and I have had twins (now grown). I also live in a 2nd floor flat now with a singleton toddler and getting the shopping in is hard enough. I would not have coped when the twins were babies (lived in a house then).

drjohnsonscat · 27/09/2012 16:39

well then he can't work as a delivery driver, can he?

My Sainsburys guy told me he wasn't allowed to take it to the kitchen because he might fall down on the way. Irritating load of rubbish.

Sirzy · 27/09/2012 16:40

The MAIN address is the building that is what you have paid for, anything else is at the discretion of the driver. The t and C make that pretty clear!

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:42

Drjohnson - why not? We all have good days and bad days. He might have slept funny, might have hurt it carrying someone else's shopping up some stairs

Seriously, I'd rather stop being a lazy arse and get my own bags. Then expect some woman or man who's been busy running round all day who could potentially hurt themselves and be off work for my benefit.

SammyTheSwedishSquirrel · 27/09/2012 16:42

No sammy. That isn't the man entrance at all. The main entrance would be the lobby.

I disagree.

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:42

Exactly Sirzy.

vintagewarrior · 27/09/2012 16:42

Goldship are you a Tesco delivery driver?
If not get a grip love, have you never had a bad day?
You are mean and have no empathy.

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:43

sammy

Well good for you. We'll have to agree to disagree wont we.

drjohnsonscat · 27/09/2012 16:43

No not at the discretion of the driver. At his discretion if he thinks there are safety issues. There aren't, therefore he doesn't have this discretion.

If he has a bad back he's not going to be able to complete the company's contract with the customer which is to deliver to the customer's door at the customer's request and in the absence of any safety issues. Your own particular health limitations are not the customer's problem.

Sirzy · 27/09/2012 16:44

Sainsurys policy -

We will always deliver your order to the front door of your house or to the communal entrance to your block of flats. Our drivers may also deliver beyond this into your home. Our 'providing a safe delivery' section below sets out more.

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:44

Vintage

For one, no I'm not. For two, don't 'love' me. And three, I really don't care if being mean and having no empathy means I don't give people's self pitying crap answers like 'aww poor you Hun'.

I think people might do well to have a bit of empathy for the drivers who are doing us the service.

SammyTheSwedishSquirrel · 27/09/2012 16:44

Well good for you. We'll have to agree to disagree wont we.

Indeed. Preferable without the sarkiness because I disagree with you.

Sirzy · 27/09/2012 16:45

also from sainsburys

Our driver will not always be able to deliver beyond the communal entrance if there isn't a lift, which transports the shopping beyond the first floor of the building (where the ground level is 0). If this is the case, the driver or a store colleague will discuss delivery options with you for subsequent deliveries.

Sirzy · 27/09/2012 16:46

I am intrigued as to how someone who wasn't there can say their were no safety issues!

GoldShip · 27/09/2012 16:46

sammy

What would one like in reply to your 'I disagree'?
