Dh has put some washing on whilst I was in hospital. All good. However, have just unloaded it to find pants, socks, towels, tea towels and ordinary clothes have been washed together.AIBU to want to rewash the towels and teatowels.

I like the stuff separated and would be tempted to re do the wash, but only if Dh wasn't around to know. I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings when he was trying to be nice and helpful.

That's simply so that pillow covers don't migrate inside, theredhen.

OP YABU. Personally I don't give a shit about bum (or any other kind of) germs and bung all my washing in together. Seriously, the detergent and the washing machine should be doing a good job, and even if it isn't I've survived 40+ years not giving a shit and I never get ill. From bitter experience I am slightly cautious about washing the dog's duvet cover in with my clothes after I got knickers covered in (clean) dog hair...although this was not as bad as when I washed my pants with the pony's numnah!
"Bum germs" on the tea towels doesn't even register on my skank radar!

LOL @ "Leave the bastard" Grin

stealthsquiggle · 27/09/2012 19:08

Buttoning duvet covers is just so that they don't eat the rest of the load, isn't it? Or have I been doing it to keep the duvet germs in/out all these years without realising?

NameChangeGalore · 27/09/2012 19:10

Tea towels washed with socks and underwear? Eew! Wash the tea towels again, DEFINITELY! Yuck

VforViennetta · 27/09/2012 19:13

Why would you need to kill bacteria on sheets? They will only be "sterile" until you take them out of the machine with your germy hands and then immediately reinfected with bum germs once you get into bed Grin.

Blimey here's me thinking washing was to remove dirt Confused.

Horopu · 27/09/2012 19:14

Here in New Zealand most washing machines use cold water and the machine does not heat it up. I don't think the reason there are only 4 million people here is because they are all keeling over because of bum germs not being killed by a hot enough wash.

But v funny nutters! Xxx

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/09/2012 19:34

Re fastening duvet covers - that's a genius idea! I always end up with soggy ball of sheet/pillow cases inside the duvet inside the tumble dryer.

Some good has come of this thread :-)

Viviennemary · 27/09/2012 19:40

I wouldn't bother doing it again but it would annoy me. I like to have all separate washes for separate things. Towels at 60. Some delicates on 30 degrees wash or wash by hand. I make things hard for myself. But am really lazy in other areas of housework.

DowagersHump · 27/09/2012 19:42

All I conclude is that some people have Too Much Time on their hands.

Washing sheets at 95 degrees? Bloody hell :(

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/09/2012 19:45

OP, is the stuff clean? Sometimes if DH has loaded the machine he puts nearly everything in the laundry basket in so it is too full to properly wash and rinse. That is the only circumstance under which it is necessary to re-do a full load of laundry, IMHO

FishfingersAreOK · 27/09/2012 19:46

I do towels and bedlinen at 60 if I remember but only because Dh has a severe dustmite allergy and it needs 60 degrees to clear the allergy thingies... and the bloody consultant said we had to and that DH shouldn't hoover! Barstard

Everything else religiously white/coloured but no other sorting.

Confused
Dotty342kids · 27/09/2012 19:46

Ok, this may out me as being a disgusting critter but I almost always wash towels, tea towels and occasionally bedding too, in with clothes, at a 40 degree wash! Occasionally I remember to do towels and bedding seperately at 60 degrees but I really don't think it matters. When was the last time you heard of someone getting seriously ill from not washing their towels seperately from their clothes?!

I do love how people declare what a whole country does Grin Horopu - I don't know anyone in NZ that does a cold wash - we all wash at 40 deg plus! Grin

Fishfingers - I used to have some lovely dustmite photos and reams of printed matter on them. If people only knew the half of it! Grin

whendotheyleavehome · 27/09/2012 21:50

Loving the term 'bum germs'

My 4 year old farted this evening and declared it sounded like a maraca

I am picturing all the bum germs now on his pyjamas grooving on down to the funky maraca beat

Matesnotdates · 27/09/2012 22:06

Bum germs, that has made me laught til I cry!

Matesnotdates · 27/09/2012 22:08

when do they leave - you have set me off again Grin

Matesnotdates · 27/09/2012 22:09

Surely no one gets bum germs on a towel do they? Or am I missing something?

Matesnotdates · 27/09/2012 22:09

Are we talking about exterior or interior bum germs?

Pitmountainpony · 27/09/2012 22:13

YANBU with regard to your tea towels.
.......if you wash tea towels in with other stuff apparently it is really unhygenic-like pants with all that goes in pants going on your tea towels.

They need a hot wash- I save mine up now i learnt this and just started boiling my dish cloth every other day on the hob as again that is another thing that does not get cleaned properly unless you do a very hot wash.Apparently now everyone is doing cooler washes tea towels are not getting sanitised properly.....

I would just re wash the tea towels myself.
