OP you need to clarify what your issues is?

Is it fabric softener on fluffy towels?
Is it the bum germs on pants and towels?
Is it that tea towels are for kitchen and should be kept separate?

NeDeLaMer · 27/09/2012 15:08

Edith - every other day >faints< I'm changing it two or three times a day Grin The bacteria that grows on dishcloths is alarming.

ll31 · 27/09/2012 15:10

why? you clearly have too much time on your hands- in the nicest possibke way cos you sound v nice

EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2012 15:14

Competitive dishcloth changing! Ooh, I feel inadequate now.
To clarify, I don't wash up with mine (erugh) only wipe surfaces when I clean the kitchen in the evening. So every other day = after two uses.

NumericalMum · 27/09/2012 15:18

Just use a dishwasher instead if you are that paranoid Confused

diddl · 27/09/2012 15:20

Bum germs??!!

OMFG that is hilarious.

I haven´t washed anything on hotter than 40 for longer than I can remember.

What should have happened to us by now?

EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2012 15:20

I've got a dishwasher, thanks.

NeDeLaMer · 27/09/2012 15:21

Edith Grin Clearly what you are doing hasn't killed any of you yet and works for you & given I have family & friends who have the same one around for weeks on end and are living to tell the tale - you're doing just fine :)

The thing is, having worked in an industry where I know how quickly bacteria multiplies on a dishcloth I just can't leave a damp one there... so I keep changing it (to be completely honest it's probably more like 4 times a day) as my Mum keeps using it to 'wipe the bench' or whatever.

NeDeLaMer · 27/09/2012 15:24

NumericalMum - why? I'm perfectly happy with my no dishcloth kitchen, but compromise while Mum is staying . I hate dishwashers.

CecilyP · 27/09/2012 15:24

I always thought I was really meticulous just by separating whites from coloureds. Never wash anything above 40 degrees. Wash my dishcloth (also only used for surfaces) when I am doing whites - if I remember. How on earth do you use enough tea towels to justify putting them in a separate wash?

Now I am going to have to worry about bum germs.

diddl · 27/09/2012 15:26

"Tea towels should not be washed with anything else - it's grim. "

Why-what do you use yours for??!!

pointybird · 27/09/2012 15:27

I'm worried about bum germs too Wink Should I have separate laundry baskets for pants, towels, tea towels and the rest of our clothes in case of cross-contamination?

Baaartimaeus · 27/09/2012 15:27

Oh wow this has never crossed my mind Confused

Our washing machine is in the kitchen so when a tea towel is dirty I chuck it in the machine so it'll be included in the next wash.

What is meant to happen if you don't wash stuff "properly"? A tummy bug? I've never had one in my life although DH has several a year, weak stomached thing!

NeDeLaMer · 27/09/2012 15:28

Cecily - ummm quite easily... one here just looks at dishes and finds itself in the wash! :) I'm a little fanatical, but I'm not hurting anyone Grin

pointybird · 27/09/2012 15:30

I find it weird that people DON'T wash pants, socks and tea towels together

TroublesomeEx · 27/09/2012 15:31

Hmm. I think some of you are having a little joke at the expense of us with bum germ ishoos... Hmm

TroublesomeEx · 27/09/2012 15:31
Grin
EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2012 15:31

Separate laundry baskets-I do that too...

Vair amusing to come across as uptight hygiene obsessive to some on MN when my mother thinks I am Slattern Supreme.

Actually, I offer SlatternSupreme to anyone needing a name change.

IShallWearMidnight · 27/09/2012 15:35

I think you need a separate washing machine for pants, which you can then run on a empty 95 degree wash with bleach in between pants loads, to properly clean it out. Otherwise the bum germs will be waiting there to infect the next load of washing.

pointybird · 27/09/2012 15:36

ROLFing at work IShallWearMidnight

IShallWearMidnight · 27/09/2012 15:37

and the gloves you use to transfer the pants from laundry basket to washing machine, can they be washed with the pants, or can they go in with other clothes?

Finbert · 27/09/2012 15:37

Crazy to rewash! Lol at bum germs Grin

HSMM · 27/09/2012 15:37

Do I have to wash my pants, DH's pants and DD's pants in 3 separate washes, so we don't get each others bum germs?

(disclaimer - I am a chuck it all in slattern)

pointybird · 27/09/2012 15:37

ROFLing even

Hopeforever · 27/09/2012 15:40

Your chopping board harbours more germs than the average loo seat

Just saying :)
