to tell 3yo DD where babies come out of?

My DD is very inquisitive and understands all about where babies live and that they start as eggs (left out the part about how the egg turns into a baby as that's just tmi and completely not age appropriate obviously) but she asked today.. mummy, when the baby is ready to come out, how does it get out.

I kind of skirted around the answer and changed the subject. I don't want to lie to her abd give her sone crap about babies coming out of belly buttons etc, and I know its probably frowned upon for me to tell my 3yo DD that babies have to come out of their mummys front bottoms, but how do I answer this without lieing to her?

Where babies grow* don't know how that turned into live lol

I have told my DCs them come out from near your bottom. Except mine didn't - I show them the scar from my CS's instead!

I always told mine the front of your bottom, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Aye why not. Put it very simply that the baby sends special messages to your body when it's ready to come out, your stretches very wide and the baby pops out.

A lady has 3 holes, one for poo, one for wee and one called the vagina where the baby comes out when it's ready. Some babies come out of the tummy and the doctor cuts a hole and lift the baby out.

That's what I told my ds when he asked.

YWNBU to tell her where they grow and where they come out of and even (in a vague general sense) how they get there in the first place.

I have always believed in answering questions from children simply but truthfully. There is nothing shameful about our natural biology.:)

I'd be careful about " eggs", all kinds of potential for confusion.

I had c sections with both DD's and will be having one with this baby too. DD1, who is 4, knows that she and her sister came out of my tummy and that when she came out of my tummy it was because the doctors wanted to make sure she was safe. She also refers to this as her not wanting to come out

A few weeks ago, she came up to me and said 'Mummy, do babies come from your bits?'. We were very open and honest with her and explained that usually, yes babies do come from ladies 'bits' but sometimes they come from tummies instead.

I don't think there's anything wrong with telling your DD where babies come out of.

Of course you're not being unreasonable. I told my 3yo that she had come out of my vagina when she was born, but that her sister had come out through a hole in my tummy cut by the doctors who helped her to be born. Like other posters say, nothing to be ashamed of and always best to answer truthfully.

I clearly remember asking my mum where babies come out and she said ' the doctor has a special way of getting it out'

FFS I spent such a long time trying to work out how - really confusing and so I always tell ds the truth when he asks.

I think if you are going to tell her where babies come from you should also call it the correct name. YANBU ,one have known and know that some people have a c section, some babies need help to come out etc....they are 3&5 and honesty is the best policy...but front bottom???? Nooooooooo

Whatever you tell her now,she'll never remember so don't worry yourself.She will make her own version up and stick with that untill she's about 16 or older ( or was that just me )?

My DGD at the age of 3 beat my DD3 to it. She had been asleep on the sofa and woke up to find my DD3 watching a one born every minute type programme. She suddenly piped up "oh baby out of foo" and for the next few weeks proceeded to tell everyone she knew that where babies came from.

Please don't ever say "front bottom" to your daughter. That would be VVVU.

Not just you Maras. DS got the full version at 3, enough to answer his questions while being truthful. He's eight, nearly nine and it's just clicked with him, he said he thought I was being daft and we just picked him up from the hospital. To be fair when my sunburn peeled I did tell him it was because I was turning into a lizard and that why we had to wear suncream, so we wouldn't become lizards and be forced to live with the royal family.

My 4yo DS asked me why men have willies this weekend. We chatted about weeing (as you do), but he quite reasonably asked why men can't just wee out of the bum like women.

So I decided to bite the bullet and say that well.... as well weeing, men need their willies when they are grown up and they want to make a baby with a woman. He was completely "don't be silly mummy, you don't need a daddy to make a baby. Mummies make babies in their tummies and Daddies give the babies milk" (just great - considering I BF both of mine for a year each and DH never gave them so much as a bottle of EBF).

I persisted in saying that daddies help make babies. DS laughed in my face. Then ran off. I don't think I'll be repeating that conversation for another few years.

I highly recommend investing a book called 'its not the stalk'. It is aimed at young children and discuses yes you got it pregnancy and birth it's one if my ds (3) favourite books, his sister then 5 read (by read she more chatted about the pics) it to him when he was 2, as a result he now uses words such as vagina, penis, sperm with ease and grace in everyday conversations

I bet that goes down a treat at pre-school
