I had it on in May. Once in August, and felt guilty.

Is it ok to put it on now? Winter is finally upon us.

Our house is very insulated.Smile

Even so, the heating has been on, on the thermostat for the last two weeks.

It's been mainly mornings when the heating has come on. We've had a few frosts here in the dales.

The temp. in the house at the moment is 20c, without heating thermostat clicking on.( It's set just under!)

We all have our pJs/ dressing gowns on at the moment. Grin Watching a DVD. well DD/DS2/DH are Wink

It's ment to be frosty tonight. I can feel the change in the weather in my bones.Grin I think we are in for a cold winter. Sad

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 21/09/2012 20:00

I'm in the south east, and our heating has been on for weeks. We don't do cold.

timetoask · 21/09/2012 20:01

Yesterday, I had 5 hot cups of tea, wore my thick jumper, was still shivering! Had to have a hot shower to feel better. Today, heating is on! I couldn't handle it anymore.

MrsApplepants · 21/09/2012 20:04

I'm trying desperately to save money, so have decided not to put the heating on until 1st October. On September 30th we may all be sitting here in our coats.

apostropheuse · 21/09/2012 20:12

Oh my heating has been on for weeks now. We're in Scotland though and it's been very wet recently, which always makes it feel colder I think.

The heating's on twenty-four hours a day at the moment. I do like my home comforts!

lagoonhaze · 21/09/2012 20:26

Im known for being proper hardcore. We've had the heating on today!

akaemmafrost · 21/09/2012 20:36

I am holding out till October. Mind you I am sat here in pjs, wooly socks, dressing gown and wrap over the top of all that. I feel the cold though, since I lost weight. My dc don't seem to feel it at all.

elastamum · 21/09/2012 20:39

Mine has been in today, but we have water under the house, it's a mill, so it starts to get cold and damp pretty quick in the autumn. I should light the log burners instead but I'm too busy lazyGrin

Notcontent · 21/09/2012 20:55

I caved in tonight. I am in London, where it's probably positively balmy compared to other parts of the UK, but it's still cold.

I usually manage to have the heating off for nearly 6 months of the year but not this year. Very annoying - I think my gas bill is going to be huge this winter.

Woodlands · 21/09/2012 21:01

We've not needed it yet, but then we are in a London flat. I've only just started putting a jumper on these last few nights so hopefully heating is a way off.

CremeEggThief · 21/09/2012 21:03

Am I cheating as I have the electric fire on for an hour or so?? No Central Heating til 1st October though!

Notcontent · 21/09/2012 21:05

CremeEgg - putting the electric fire on will work out more expensive than putting on gas central heating on for the same amount of time.

CremeEggThief · 21/09/2012 21:24

Ok Notcontent. I'll turn it off now and make do with my old quilt and a couple of glasses of wine :).

frazzledbutcalm · 21/09/2012 21:40

northumberland...i'm freezing...heating's on...

suebfg · 21/09/2012 21:41

yes, it comes on twice a day now for an hour

Meglet · 21/09/2012 21:43

Of course it's ok. I flick mine on in August if it gets rainy and damp.

twinnies26 · 21/09/2012 21:48

no heating ... but the log fire is on for the first time- Autumn is upon us!

Mibby · 21/09/2012 21:52

Thermostats at 20 and ours has been on most of the day today. Its hardly stopped raining and we've been home all day so it has to be warm!
Our neighbour is away so we're feeding the cats and they came round early afternoon, think theyre too cold in the unheated house!

morethanpotatoprints · 21/09/2012 22:03

We usually put ours on in November, usually aroung bonfire as the minute it goes on everyone comes down with a cold and during half term they are better.
We put sweaters on and thicker duvet if we are cold.

HenriettaPootel · 21/09/2012 22:03

It's fine here (SE) with just a jumper on in the evening, but I am finding it chilly in the mornings now. The autumn (9 tog) duvets have gone on, but I'm holding out on the winter (13.5 tog) ones for now. Kids are in their long-sleeve/long leg pyjamas for the first time tonight.

FredFredGeorge · 21/09/2012 22:11

One of the most interesting graphs I saw about heating the average day and night time temperatures of houses in both (the cold) parts of the US and the UK, the houses in the UK tracked the US temps by about 15 years. But the interesting thing that they also both tracked the increase in obesity.

In the South East I'm still in Shorts and T-shirts when I get up with the temp around 17 degrees in the house. DP is asking me to close the downstairs windows though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/09/2012 22:20

I'd love to see that graph fredgeorge.

FredFredGeorge · 21/09/2012 22:32

OhYouBadBadKitten I've been looking for it so far I've got to www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v30/n11/full/0803326a.html
which (in Addtional Explanation 3) discusses the hypothesis but doesn't have the the graph or reference it.

ThompsonTwins · 21/09/2012 22:34

5 in the evenings here but I just add layers. Leaving it as long as possible before switching on. I am the hardy one. DD will be home next weekend and the heating will go on for her.

Sombrine · 21/09/2012 22:45

Yep, it's OK. I have had it on all week. Currently lying with a hot water bottle between my thighs :)

I don't believe I should have to wear jumpers in my own house. Have always (was, and still is, the same in my parents' house) stuck to the policy that my house is a t-shirt wearing zone, all jumpers and outer clothing comes off ;-)
