"I'm not a feminist"

"oh, I'm so much less of a feminist than you are"

"I'm so not a femynyst I don't even know how to spell it"

AIBU to be deeply puzzled by the made up quotes in the OP?

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:57

Oh sorry, 1 angry post out of 100 an you've labelled us all angry frothers.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 21/09/2012 10:57

This "wrong topic" thing bothers me. In fact the Feminist topics bother me a bit; although I am coming around to the idea.

Feminism figures in every single thing we do. It belongs all over MN. I cannot think of a single topic on MN (or anywhere for that matter) where this is not the case.

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:57

Again. Those of you saying that you're not a feminist, do you think that men should rule over women then?

threeOrangesocksmorgan · 21/09/2012 10:57

ShirtyKnot but surely you can agree with the principals without being part of a "group" tbh I would not want to be a mn feminist after the last few days

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:57

It's actually a made up op in order to rehash another thread all over again

seeker · 21/09/2012 10:57

Of course they were made up- and exagerrated for effect. I thought that was obvious- sorry if it wasn't.

OP posts:
RebeccaMumsnet · 21/09/2012 10:58

@ShirtyKnot

I am laughing that someone reported this!

HAHA! Ye Gads.

A fair few reports about this one Shirty, and that's what we like when we see the mass purchase of baked goods in the run up to the lobbing of buns.

Can we try and eat the buns rather than throwing them around please.

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:58

Oh Kayano, please. Do me a favour. Hmm this is all very distracting and all that but Y to the AWN.

You want examples of angry posts? I gave you one.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 10:58

I do Shirl.

And I want to be paid less and do more housework and be the subject of more violent abuse.

yes please.

Empusa · 21/09/2012 10:58

So you are puzzled by something that hasn't happened?

Shakey1500 · 21/09/2012 10:58

I can't say I've seen any examples of "competitive anti feminism".

I just get mightily confused with the different types of feminism there seems to be. I could do with an easy to read pamphlet or somesuch that defines each level/type so I could identify with a morsel of confidence :)

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:58

Yep Rebecca. I'm not throwing any buns.

Nancy66 · 21/09/2012 10:59

Makes me laugh that the posts on a (largely) female forum that always kick off and lead to the most name calling and abuse are the ones about feminism.

The only time i look at the feminism/women's right section is for a good chuckle.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 10:59

It's a debate Rebecca.

Why try and shut it down with talk of buns?

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:59

Shirty - no one said that at all. I would say I am actually a feminist but so many people don't want that title because of various reasons.

You look at it black and white, they look at it not 50 shades of grey

seeker · 21/09/2012 10:59

Examples of feminist bile please? Before I bring on the big guns of the anti-feminist bile?

OP posts:
handbagCrab · 21/09/2012 11:00

Perhaps all the non feminists should spend a week living as if feminism never happened. Defer to your dh or your dad on all things. Hand over your financial freedom. Stop using contraception. Don't waste your energy having opinions on politics or government as you can't vote or be elected anyway. Pretend you didn't get that university education or that career and instead only every had the chance to excel at menial work. In fact stop any kind of career if you are married, although menial work would still be open to you if you needed the money. Hope you married a man who doesn't decide to beat you and the dc up, or spend all the family money, or rape you.

But hey, you won't have to be upset if someone doesn't agree with your choice to wax your pubis or wear high heels or if you simper to get a man to carry a box for you. So it probably swings and roundabouts really.

cakeismysaviour · 21/09/2012 11:00

Cakeismysaviour- all I want is one example of feminist bile. Things you don't agree with are not bile- they are things you don't agree with. I could if you like find lots of examples of anti feminist bile- so it would be really helpful if you could show some by feminists.

They were pointed out to you in very clear and simple terms in the post you started the other day.

There is a function on here called Threads I'm On. Its marvellous you know. If you click on it, you will find the thread in question and be able to read it for yourself. Isn't that clever?! Grin

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 21/09/2012 11:01

Rebecca I asked Seeker at 9.55 how many more threads about threads she was going to start and she replied "just this one actually"!

So it would seem it is indeed a Fred a bout a Fred!

Ilovedaintynuts · 21/09/2012 11:01

I have never heard or seen this behaviour.

Apathy towards feminism does sadden me, though. I seethe inwardly when I talk to women who have no idea about
a. what feminism is
b. how far we have come
c. how much there is left to do
d. how many women are suffering in other parts of the world and have none of the freedoms we take for granted and don't care about it.

The problem is that any agenda that is constantly being pushed to a group of people who are not interested will be met with antagonism.

Seeker I understand, I really do but you are making people dig their heels in further.

No, I don't think feminism should be pushed off the main boards but I think we all need some breathing space after the last few fraught threads.

valiumredhead · 21/09/2012 11:01

I agree with hully actually - nothing wrong with a debate regardless of wether you agree or not with the OP.

MaBaya · 21/09/2012 11:01

'I'm not a feminist, but...'

...I am a dimwit?

How can you NOT be a feminist?

RebeccaMumsnet · 21/09/2012 11:02

@Hullygully

It's a debate Rebecca.

Why try and shut it down with talk of buns?

Debate is fine Hully, obvs.

Just a gentle nudge in the hope that it doesn't turn in to a bunfight rather than a debate.

Kayano · 21/09/2012 11:02

I hate the fact of people don't agree they are either stupid or wrong.

Of course the attitude puts people off
