"I'm not a feminist"

"oh, I'm so much less of a feminist than you are"

"I'm so not a femynyst I don't even know how to spell it"

No, people have all said why we don't care if we are called a girl for example, and now you have started a thread saying you are "deeply puzzled" by it!

And there you go again, you want equality for men and women, but some women's opinions are not as equal as your's!Hmm

Sallyingforth · 21/09/2012 10:34

I should automatically accept that and change my mind. I don't expect you to do that, why don you expect me to?

Seeker. Your views are perfectly valid. Wrong, but valid. You are entitled to state them and we know you won't change them.

But FFS please give it a rest!

Many of us don't find the need to constantly compare ourselves with men to decide whether we are better or worse than them. We are confident in ourselves and know that we can stand for what we are and what we do

You can only do that because women now have equal rights in law. Which were fought for by feminists. Many of whom were on the receiving end of just the same sort of ridicule and contempt that seeker is getting on this thread.

I don't go around announcing I am a feminist. It's way down on the list of attributes I use to describe myself and there are other forms of inequality I feel far more strongly about. However, if you think men and women are treated equally in society (even here in the West) and have the same opportunities, you really are deluded. That's a case of fact, not interpretation.

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:37

That's not what seeker is saying though is it?

She's talking about women saying "I'm not a feminist" when it's daft unless you think that men SHOULD be paid more than women and are better than women and should rule over women.

Hmm.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 21/09/2012 10:38

i do not have an issue with anyone not wanting to call themselves a feminist though i do when many want to dismiss what great work feminisim has done for us allor women and sadly many do or claim it is doing more harm than good much like certain areas of the press claim

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 21/09/2012 10:38

'tis the thinking issue. Don't over-think, you are thinking about this too much, is that all you have to think about, finding little tiny silly things to worry about....

Same with all sorts of issues - gollies spring to mind. Thinking sometimes seems to be regarded with deep suspicion.

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:40

Actually you don't even need a vagine to be a feminist.

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:40

We've just had this bloody thread

But there is no 'competitive anti feminism' don't be so silly

'Ill just make something up for an excuse to start another thread. Brilliant'

Errr.... No

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 10:41

GOLLIES

well fuck me sideways and call me santa

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:41

Shirley but on the last thread there was talk of banning men from feminist meetings! Shock

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:41

Why are the non-feminists getting so ANGRY KEYBOARD THUMPY?

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:42

Are they?

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:42

Well, I think that's fair enough really Kayano. I'm sure women wouldn't be welcome at a Male Rights meeting.

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:42

You're the only one with a caps lock problem

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:43

Yes. Yes they are.

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:43

Calm yourself down there! I don't have a caps lock problem, it's kind of like "my thing". Have we met?

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:43

x POST FRENZY

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 10:43

See?

Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:44

But you've just said that ou don't need a vagina to e a feminist, but you apparently aren't allowed to attend meetings and lend your support to the cause

Don't know how you expect to change stuff without makin men as aware of the issues as females.

ScrambledSmegs · 21/09/2012 10:45

Cor. Kicking off a bit, innit?

I'm a feminist. Although my former colleagues refused to believe it as apparently I don't look like one Hmm.

seeker · 21/09/2012 10:46

Can I respectfully point out that nobody actually has to come onto a thread and say how bored they are of it!

Please will somebody point to something I have actually said that is bringing feminism into disrepute. Or which indicates that I am a "radfem"

I have said that murdered police officers should be spoken about with respect. Opinions differs about whether or not they actually had been- but the fact remains that I think they hadn't been, and I wanted them to be. You can disagree with me, you can think i shouldn't have posted when i did- but my original intention still holds.

OP posts:
Kayano · 21/09/2012 10:46

I just thought it odd you are telling people they are angry keyboard thumpy while in Caps Lock tbh

I can't see any angry people here. Just lots of Sad faces designed to show how people who think the issue in the op is completely made up are to be pitied

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 21/09/2012 10:46

Why do you want fucking sideways, Hully? I just mean that people apply the same 'you are over thinking this' arguments when anyone tries to say gollies are not nice things as they do when anything gets read from a feminist perspective!

ScrambledSmegs · 21/09/2012 10:46

I love the RANDOM CAPS thing, Shirley. Caitlin Moran was all CAPS LOCK ROCK on the webchat.
